  1. Your efforts are commendable Peckhamrose...can I cheekily ask a question? Does he make sure your birthdays are equally memorable? Hope so!
  2. If you liked Dennis Sever's house, then you could try http://www.soane.org/ It's quite gothic and absolutely fascinating.... they do candelight tours occasionally too.

Tsk! But am I the only one who imagined someone completely different to have a moniker of Skids? You look so wholesome darling.

  5. I love David Sedaris....and was quite a fan of both me talk pretty one day and dress your family.... But I hated Barrel Fever with a passion...it lacked the realism and sincerity of his other work - I just felt it went for cheap dirty laughs (that's the one where he has a fantasy about dating Mike Tyson right?).
  6. In agreement with AnnaJ and MP here.... as soon as such "witty" banter starts Ladymuck, I find my eyes glazing over . I find these postings incredibly tedious - perhaps when the "urge" takes you, you could simply use the PM facility. Likewise when you feel the need to discuss private outings with other forumites.
  7. To be fair MP - while I don't doubt your experience in an ashram at all, I don't think you can lump them all together as "horrible things". It's like anything isn't it - there are probably awful ones and good ones and the best way is to do some research and talk to people about what their experience has been.
  8. GG - I say go for it. I've often contemplated such retreats - and I have non-hippy sane friends who have tried them and got loads out of them. There's a book called Eat Pray Love - hideous chick-lit looking book - that is about a woman spending a year getting out of her comfort zone, part of which she spent in an ashram - and yes, it sounded really tough, but really worth it. I don't think being a city Jimmy Choo-wearing gal needs to stop you exploring other things. Why pigeonhole yourself? You might just find when you get back you walk a little taller in those Jimmy Choos....
  9. What is extraordinary is that he continued to be held in such high esteem by the industry. How can such a thing be so easily overlooked? Perhaps it indicates just how little regard was given to crimes such as rape thirty years ago? Or has little changed?
  10. I hope to make it for last orders at the very least, though I think my tweed-clad other half will be there earlier.
  11. I agree with KidKruger ....Joanna's in Crystal Palace is fabulous with an old fashioned sexiness to it that means the ten minute cab back to East Dulwich is just perfect.
  12. Belle-Carnells will be there...
  13. I think the best way for us to deal with such trolls would be to ignore them entirely. To literally erase them and carry on. This thread simply continues to give them the attention they crave.
  14. A very Happy Birthday to the lovely Moos!
  15. A very Happy Birthday to Buggie.....hope you get lots of lovely pressies and spoilt rotten!
  16. To be fair SteveT there is a distinction - I think most forumites defended freedom of speech rather than individuals. And why not merely let sleeping dogs lie?
  17. Cracking open an egg and finding not one, but two perfect yolks....
  18. Having worked for a national charity that used chuggers I agree with giggirl - it takes more than a year to re-coup the fees for each successful sign up. It relies solely on the assumption that people won't cancel their direct debit but will just keep on giving. Also - I would urge people thinking of giving to charity to actually consider smaller charities in their local area rather than always going for the obvious national charities. Your money can go an awful lot further when it's not supporting Head Offices and expensive marketing campaigns. A really good resource is www.thebiggive.org.uk - you can put in your charitable interests, your location and it will bring up lots of small charities looking for support.
  19. A very Happy Birthday to RosieH! Hope you get all you wish for!

It was curiously uplifting despite its bleak portrayal of gang culture , and had a nice sardonic undertone. Well worth viewing.

Rubber-necking at such a tender age. Bless.
  22. I think this place may well exist. A bit of digging reveals it has links with the Hannah Barry Gallery which has used the space before for exhibitions as part of the I love Peckham festival.
  23. Tell us more! I can't picture where the multi storey carpark is but am excited by the promise of sardines and crab on toast washed down by campari and prosecco! Sounds a rather civilised way to enjoy a cocktail - and on Rye Lane too!

And there is a difference between using your common sense and staying alert and walking round scared to death. If martial arts makes you more confident great, but I think in a situation that kind of response could make things worst. But I feel spending too much time dwelling on these matters is often self-defeating.
