Bellenden Belle replied to cmacnew's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thanks Kate08 - I guess I should give it a go early one morning then. -

No worries! Thanks for the reply. Just to echo other people's opinions on CP softplay - we were really disappointed at the facilities versus the cost. -

I have read elsewhere that the baby area is overun with toddlers - was that your experience? I would like to try it but not if my 14 month old is going to be battling with older children. Would really welcome feedback. -
I don't doubt for a moment that one dish has meat from William Rose - but the rest, well, I'd place money on it being delivered in a Brakes van. I went into the Clockhouse last night for dinner. I quite liked the surroundings - it looked a bit like a conservatory but actually works rather well. Be interesting how it works in the depths of winter..... But dear lord, the food. The food was the worst I've had in a long, long time. Now I have never sent a dish back to a kitchen before but my duck (at ?15 almost the most expensive thing on the menu) was the oddest plate of food I'd ever seen. It was a finger of duck. Imagine a duck breast cut into five - I got one of those. A croquette towered over it, twice the size. Now to be fair, I complained and the response was excellent - indeed I was told that I was the third person to complain about that particular dish and offered the chance to order an alternative. (If there have already been two complaints why continue to send the food out, but nevermind). So I ordered the burger and chips. I suggested I'd like it medium rare, but I needn't have wasted my breath. Dense, claggy meat, burnt...a burger clearly straight out of the packet, just like mum might have cooked.....in the 70s. Anaemic chips. Don't be fooled by the inclusion of William Rose's name on a single dish - this is pre-packaged Youngs food doing its worst. Appalling.

science museum by 345 bus
Bellenden Belle replied to KatsuQueen's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I went last week - got a bus to Vauxhall and then changed at the bus station to the 360. Took forty mins in total from goose green. Very direct - stops on exhibition street itself. Highly recommend combining a visit to the natural history museum butterfly exhibition too. Buy your tickets online and you can avoid the queues. My 13 month old loved it but older kids seemed equally enthralled - particularly if they have a camera to take pictures. Route home is lovely as the bus stops on exhibition street itself so is empty on the way back. -
MsMaz - yep both Baby Belle and I have had that bug. I had it from Sunday Til Friday - it was awful. Pharmacist said not to take anything for it, just Dioralyte. It was awful - you have my sympathy. but it passes. Pretty sure there's nothing the doctor can do.

Annoyed nurseries and waiting lists!
Bellenden Belle replied to uzma's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Twenty pounds for gumboots (when we joined eighteen months ago) and the one o'clock club session I mentioned is 10 - 12 on a Thursday with other sessions, some open access some restricted on other days. Full details here: http://www.edtots.co.uk/one-o-clock-clubs -
I am very sad that my little one is too poorly for me to take him to see Wash at Polka Theatre tomorrow. We have two tickets for the 10.35am show. Polka's shows for the very young are incredibly special and take place in a small intimate theatre space - a perfect first experience. And they are very much designed and written with the particular age group in mind. The details are here: http://www.polkatheatre.com/whats-on/wash It's a sold out show - they sell out months in advance - so this is a good chance to get hold of some tickets. They are ?8 each - ?16 for the pair.

Annoyed nurseries and waiting lists!
Bellenden Belle replied to uzma's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Oh Uzma - I didn't see your post but I truly hope you didn't think I was being in any way critical. I really wasn't. It rang a bell with me simply because actually sometimes I have found playground quite hard work myself and have been amused / surprised at how granny loves them. All grannies are different but there are some who absolutely relish the experience of mixing with other mums/ childminders/ grannies -
Annoyed nurseries and waiting lists!
Bellenden Belle replied to uzma's topic in The Family Room Discussion
That's interesting Uzma, that you see playgroups as an awful burden. I think it's the one thing that Baby Belle's granny loves the most - she gets to meet and chat with other people and she gets to see Baby Belle enjoying different activities. My funniest experience was when she took him to a library group and he was asleep throughout - she stayed and said she "enjoyed the songs immensely!" Is Uzma a Muslim name? Forgive my ignorance ..There is actually a Muslim women only playgroup at Peckham Rye one o'clock club on a Thursday. But I agree it's brilliant you've got a nursery place. -
Tips on using cutlery please!

I just thought I'd come back and say that six weeks after taking people's advice and purchasing baby bjorn spoons and plate, Baby Belle has mastered feeding almost entirely by himself. I wanted to post so as to thank people for their advice and also to say that the Baby Bjorn stuff though ridiculously pricey IMO really did make a difference and I would genuinely recommend them. And we have gone from very messy to hardly any mess - miracles!!!!! -
Little Fingers Montessori Dulwich - feedback please

And thomasthetankengine that's an excellent first post recommending another nursery and not responding to the original question. -
Museum of London at the Docklands. About twenty minutes on the new overland from Peckham Rye.

Baby with hellish nappies
Bellenden Belle replied to WorkingMummy's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Just back from Lister Walk In centre since Baby Belle has a vomiting bug. The doctor said exactly what Fushia said - no dairy but definitely breast milk - even if they don't keep it down. Also recommended Dioralyte to keep the baby hydrated. Passing urine and the baby being alert are the two things to look out for. -
There was a thread about this previously but I don't think it got off the ground. At least I didn't hear anymore but may have just missed something.

I didn't get on well with mine at all. To the point I found it worse than labour! Seriously. Would recommend trying it once before the day so you know what to expect.

Going to the cinema with a baby - etiquette
Bellenden Belle replied to CharDale's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I haven't been to Peckham Plex but I have been to the Big Scream at Brixton Ritzy's. I found that just taking my little one to the back of the auditorium where I could easily stand and do the requisite swaying and rocking did the trick so that I could then go and sit back down. Definitely go - I wish I'd gone more in the early days when Hamish slept for ever! x -
I happily stand corrected - thanks for clarifying Trine Adams and I wish Mothersinc the very best of luck in their venture.

Call me cynical but a first time poster kind enough to give website details ....

Breakfast ideas for 1 year old
Bellenden Belle replied to Cheryl_M's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Baby Belle loves a boiled egg. Surprised no one else has mentioned that as an option. We also do grilled mushrooms with a cheese stuffing. But blueberry pancakes served with yoghurt and a fruit salad win every time. And not just at weekends either - pancakes freeze really well we find and can just be defrosted in the toaster or microwave. -
Best local pub with lots of room for kids?
Bellenden Belle replied to bee74's topic in The Family Room Discussion
The Florence in Herne Hill has a playroom for kids too. Same group as The Vic, but slightly more accommodating for group bookings including kids in my experience. -
Tips on using cutlery please!

Thank you all so much. I have just ordered the Babybjorn plate and spoon - exactly the advice I was looking for.I hadn't come across them before. Going to check out the Boots ones too. Now where's that newspaper to put on the floor.....
