  1. Did anyone go to any if the meetings? Did anything informative come up?
  2. I once watched a colleague write off a car in a car park with their big SUV cos they were short and couldn't see very well over the front. As they swung round between two cars they dented and scraped all four side panels of a parked car with the corner of the SUV without noticing they had hit it 😱
  3. I wonder if an unintended consequence of a CPZ will be more SUVs seen in ED. I see a fair few massive SUVs driving round looking for a big enough parking space and struggling to find one. Parking pressure is a reason to keep a smaller car or no car but with all that parking space created by a CPZ (albeit paid for), the big SUVs will have plenty of space to park. That would be an interesting study between CPZ and non CPZ areas.
  4. I just tried to do that and it said I had already participated so if my first survey attempt is discarded as incomplete then my input will not be counted at all. Seems unfair if true. I found this paragraph interesting in the "options to consider" section : Nearby CPZ schemes operate Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 6.30pm (zone ED) or Monday to Friday, 9am to 11am (zone PW). If similar parking times to neighbouring CPZs are implemented for the proposed zone, this may help prevent vehicles from other CPZs parking in your zone. Basically it's encouraging people to vote for 8.30-6.30 restrictions because that's what the parking restriction times are in the adjacent Melbourne Grove North. Seems like trying to influence the survey result in the instructions!!! So residents would need visitors' permits all day if anyone comes to visit. What a pain. So Southwark is concerned about people in adjacent parking zones parking in your new zone if you don't opt for all day restrictions but they're not concerned about displacement to the east side of lordship lane and are not even seeking the views of the rest of us in east East Dulwich even though we will all be affected. All feels a bit 1984, pick us off one section at a time.
  5. Has anyone on Lordship lane or on the streets to the east of lordship lane received the notification of the cpz consultation? as these are the streets that will experience increased parking pressure if the Melbourne grove cpz is implemented. So far I haven't heard that those residents are being informed so they can respond to the survey. Same for businesses on lordship lane who also should be encouraged to respond.
  6. Sydenham Hill is under Southwark, rather than Lewisham, all the way to the roundabout at Crystal Palace parade.
  7. Can you kindly list the dates and times of the meetings. Thanks.
  8. Consider taking it to tribunal. In my experience, Southwark seems to reject appeals against PCNs even when the PCN has been incorrectly issued. But when you tell them you are taking it to tribunal and start the process, they then cancel the PCN. You have to be sure that the PCN was incorrectly issued.
  9. Malumbu, I think you need to watch Peter Kay's Car Share dogging episode where you can get an explanation as I think you are confused and could get yourself in trouble if you start speaking to doggers in UpDub!!!
  10. As per Amanda's South Harlesden we could rename Dulwich as EaDu, WeDu, NoDu and DuVil. Megan's on the EaDu! And for those streets dogged by doggy do.....doDu! 🤔
  11. Ahem!!! Satire 🤔 Personally I think it's hilarious.
  12. There's a Southwark Engagement Survey just being sent round if any of the contributors to this thread are interested https://engage.southwark.gov.uk/en-GB/projects/share-your-view-on-local-pharmacies
  13. https://www.dulwichsociety.com/newsletter/spring-2006/dawsons-hill-before-dawsons-heights Talk to The Dulwich Society, they might be able to help
  14. And the cappuccino is still a good size rather than the shrinking cup size offered in some places!
  15. Maybe they're about to plant a cycle hangar in that spot. I've seen DYLs go in a couple of weeks before the hangar goes in, I guess to keep the space free. 🤔
  16. When I rang HMRC at 9.15am one day and, after 30mins of holding on, got a person on the line who was working from home, I first had to listen to him crunching his cornflakes at 9.45 and then him slurping his coffee. Then I had to complain that his baby was crying so loudly that I couldn't hear what he was saying. I asked if he could put the baby in another room and he told me off, saying that was a totally inappropriate request! Luckily the baby's mother then cheerily piped up "we're going out now. See you later" and took the baby away slamming the door as she went. I felt like I was in the room with them. This wasn't in COVID and I was trying to get a code to pay money to HMRC. So I really don't like that kind of WFH!
  17. Have you looked in the lordship lane estate car park which is where I found mine or any other discreet, free car park around here?
  18. Yesterday I counted 11 cars with tickets on, three of which had multiple tickets, which common sense would indicate is because the signage is inadequate as has been previously mentioned. There is one sign at the Townley Rd end and one at the junction of Woodwarde road and Calton avenue but if you miss one of those signs as you turn into Calton Ave then there is no other indication that this is a street with restricted parking. My understanding is that inadequate signage is a reason for appeal of a parking ticket so I hope everyone appeals their recent tickets and wins their appeal even if they have to take it to tribunal. So come on Southwark...sort the signage out otherwise we might think that this is about revenue from PCNs rather than parking control. I presume the controls are to stop staff of Alleyns and JAGS parking as well as parents parking to drop off school children and people working in Dulwich Village 🤷
  19. Sometimes shouting "Red Light idiots!" at the top of your voice can help to get the message across that pedestrians have priority to cross at that moment in time.
  20. Signed. I'm thinking this is the stretch outside the Dulwich common part of the lordship lane estate near the Rosebery gate of the park and with a P4 bus stop on each side of the road so a fair amount of pedestrian traffic. It would be especially important since it seems impossible to improve the safety of the crossing outside the old harvester.
  21. Er....excuse me 👋 I came up with one. That's still data!!
  22. I'm sorry to see another chain opening up in the form of Holland and Barratt a couple of doors up from SMBS. That will be another unfair pressure on SMBS . I really hope people continue to support SMBS and its relative shop The Cheese Block under huge pressure with the arrival of Mons and Bora. These are two of the oldest surviving (30 years plus?) green grocers, deli and unusual ingredient food shops in Lordship Lane and made it an interesting high street long before the chains and newbies moved in. I would think Healthmatters is none too happy either 😕 Support your local independent store or Lordship Lane will get really dull
  23. Another thing is that we know where the motor vehicles are (most of the time) so most of us know what to do to avoid them. But the unexpectedness of a bicycle coming at you on a pavement is what makes it hazardous and upsetting as you're just not expecting to see a vehicle at speed on the pavement.
  24. It's not a big fat zero....my neighbour couldn't work for a year following injuries from being knocked down by a bike riding at speed on the pavement....broken bones etc. And no insurance company to make a claim against for loss of earnings. The cyclist didn't stop. So not zero, just saying.
  25. A quick Google search found this service in Devon including several large print books and a home delivery service for those that can't get to a library. Might be worth a look if you haven't already considered this. Good luck. https://discover.librariesunlimited.org.uk/our-services
