Hello We have to drive to Redhill on Thursday morning, probably during the rush-hour. Not a journey we would normally do. Any advice on worst/best routes etc. gratefully received. Thanks. PS. Before anyone starts, it's just a bit too far for two people and a dog to cycle!

So, what you are saying is that you couldn't see a bright red electric light the size of a dinner plate in front of you and you are more concerned about getting ticketed than possibly running someone over? Open your eyes. It isn't 'little used' if you are a pedestrian waiting to cross the junction - this can take quite a while, maybe it appears so if you are going through in a car which might take a few seconds.

Try cleaning the lens of the CD player. The lens can get dusty or greasy over the years and this can be more likely with portable players if of the 'opening lid' sort of design rather than a slot loader. This prevents the machine 'seeing' the CD. UNPLUG IT. If it's an opening lid sort of machine the lens is easy to see - a clear plastic disc about 5mm across. Use some contact cleaning solvent or other electronics cleaner (from maplins eg) on a cotton bud and gently clean the lens then leave a minute or two to evaporate. Not guaranteed to work but has worked about 75% of the times I've tried including slot or tray loading machines which need a bit of taking apart to get to the lens. Good luck.

It came up the one way bit of copleston on monday early eve, saw it while we were out with the dog. Rumbling along very slowly (us and the bus) with two blokes in the front not looking like they knew where they were going or what might lie ahead of them - ie, loads of tight corners and streets not really big enough for coaches. They tried making the right into oxenford before giving in and setting off back up copleston. It does make the junction unsighted and pretty hazardous. I always thought something this big, similarly to anything bigger than a 3.5t truck, needed to have provable off-road parking.

so sorry to hear this, it's awful...we have a lurcher and walk over towards Greendale Fields and so we will keep our eyes open for Nina. There is also a post on doglost...be good to get a photo of Nina on there as soon as you can. http://www.doglost.co.uk/dog-blog.php?dogId=102251#.V4U0YDkrKME If you have no news later I would be happy to put up posters for you around East Dulwich/Greendale tomorrow am when I am walking our dog too.

What's the carbon footprint of heating an outdoor pool? Genuine question, I really don't know, but I wonder how it fits with Southwark's general 'fewer cars is better' point of view.

Potentially dangerous cycling dog-walker.
almost peckham replied to almost peckham's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
*Walker, the cycling dog, sounds like a very talented canine* hahaha...rahrahrah. I tried quite hard to disambiguate that when I wrote it, but you got me. I'm pretty certain Walker isn't the datschund though, her feet couldn't reach the pedals. Haven't seen him for a few days now. -
I'm a bit concerned (for the dogs mostly) about a man who 'walks' dogs around the Camberwell Grove/Grove Hill Road area (well, that's where I've seen him). In his twenties I'd guess, dark shortish hair. He takes dogs out while he's cycling, seemingly thinking he has right of way over whatever else. Today up the middle of Grove Hill Road, short haired datschund and a mostly white terrier both running along with him. Caused a car - being driven quite normally, to brake hard as he pedalled up the wrong side of the road. Last week with four dogs all on leads whizzing down the pavement on Camberwell Grove missing pedestrians by not very much. Seen numerous time lately with multiple dogs leashed to bike on the road. I might be worrying too much but every time I see him he looks like an accident waiting to happen and someone's dog is going to end up hurt at the very least. So, if you are using a middle of the day dog-walker I'd urge you to check he is walking them in a safe, not stupid, way.

I have seen the same cat again this afternoon that I posted about earlier in week. I tried to get close but it ran...it is now up our end around Danby St...if you are still looking and the kitten mentioned above is not yours, could you put some posters up around here? It's body language suggests it's lost...it's not kitten sized but a young adult, medium and fluffy...

Hi Taper "insignificant and seldom used piece of land"?? I've used it twice today. Dozens of people use it every single day. It'll be the end of the football season soon and then the stadium becomes far more seldom used than it is even now. Significance is an assessment often made on a subjective basis. I think it is significant as a different type of space to walk and see things. What I think is significant is that DHFC already have a perfectly good football ground. I don't understand how walling off and effectively privatising 2733 square metres of publicly accessible land improves an area. If DHFC are concerned about the local environment why, as James Barber says above haven't they done so over the last 25 years?

I am pretty sure I saw your cat today at 6.50am. It was on corner of Copleston Road and Avondale rise, it ran, when it saw me and my dog, up Avondale Rise and over railway bridge. I may have also seen it on Copleston Road over the last few days, around number 80. It looked scared and a bit bedraggled, but otherwise fine. I will keep looking when I am out again.

Parking near East Dulwich Station
almost peckham replied to JJ2510's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Don't park in Hayes Grove though. It looks nice and empty but it is private land and a parking firm patrols it and uses CCTV. Not very big signs alerting people to it. -

Exhibition of the proposed redevelopment at DHFC
almost peckham replied to BrandNewGuy's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
"Appropriate development should be limited to small scale structures to support outdoor open space uses and minimise any adverse impact on the openness of MOL" I'm not sure a stadium can be classed a small scale structure by any measure. Almost by definition a stadium encloses and nullifies outdoor open space and its uses rather than supporting it's uses. I know words can be slippery things but I would have thought the definition above implies something like a small cricket pavilion as a maximum and maybe something like a bird hide or nature hut at the smaller end of the scale in other contexts.
