@gsirett - thank you for the update and thank you for trying to help sort out this situation. you are right - it is an extremely sad end to this cherished local club - by all accounts caused by the appalling behaviour of Alleyns school. All of their talk of being good community citizens has been shown to be utter BS by this episode - people should be angry about this. These schools bus 100's of children into our area every day and clog our streets with traffic (just look how quiet it gets when they’re on their extended holidays) - is it unreasonable that they let community clubs like Tigersharks continue and treat them with some decency? Cancelling them after 27 years with a few weeks notice – abhorrent behaviour And before somebody else tries to turn this into something about labour and their VAT plans, I’ve now contacted 3 other swimming clubs who use Allyens to ask about swimming for my kids and they all say that they are categorically remaining at Alleyns and will be doing so next year.
-
Are Tigersharks going to be swimming in September or have Alleyns actually booted them out
-
yes - does anybody know whats going on ? - the last I heard on here, Alleyns had kicked the club out - then some of the members were meeting with them. Did that go anywhere does anybody know ?
-
Thanks for your efforts @Abba but what does "In a dialogue" mean ? Does that mean that Tgiersharks can conitune or are Alleyns are now trying to explain away how theyve tried to srew-over the swimming club ? I'll beleive it when i see it, "a leopord doenst change its spots"
-
Thanks for sharing that info @scarlettbanks. You've hit the nail on the head with your opnion. Fingers crossed that Alleyns sees some common sense and decency here

Irrespective of contractual basis, this is appalling behaviour from a school that claims to be a good community citizen. Showing their true colours ?

Reading through this makes me so angry with Alleyns. I'm not going to get into the debate about private schools generally or about their charitable status being a good or a bad thing but here’s my thoughts: 1.IMO there’s an unwritten understanding between places like Alleyns and their local communities. We tolerate the masses of 4x4's and gridlock on our local streets every day, they "give" a little bit back to the local community. This decision seems to be completely counter to that understanding 2. Alleyns seem to be riding roughshod over a local institution that is clearly dear to many people. I'm not sure why they’d be doing this, maybe they have reasons around doing things differently, but this feels like Margerat Thatcher and coal mines - lets "make progress" and screw the communities in the meantime 3. 2 weeks notice after 27 years ? WTAF ? Even if this wasn’t a local community club and assuming Tiger sharks employee people, I'd guess they’re all going to be out of a job.....with 2 weeks notice. I think even the greediest of corporations would think they’d have a PR disaster with that - let alone a school that claims to be a good community citizen. P&O ferries springs to mind

There?s a young man who?s been zooming around on his moped on three streets for a few weeks. Whilst I?m sure he?s having a lot of fun doing his wheelies, I think he needs to slow down a bit ( and maybe try some other streets ) Although it?s not crime of the century, feel that a local Bobby needs to have a quite word with him Anybody know the best way to report this ? Also - if anybody else has seen, have you got the numberplate ( I?m old and slow and have a memory like a goldfish )

Traffic fines around Dulwich village - has anyone appealed successfully
DadOf4 replied to Naiada's topic in Roads & Transport
why would you think you have a grounds to appeal ? Theres some pretty clear signs to say you shouldn't be driving on those roads at the time of restrictions -
on the corner of Thorncombe and Trossachs is, what appears to be, a small community centre - a room, with doors onto an outside space Its part of the "Dutch" estate In 15 years or living here, I have NEVER seen it used. That seems such a shame - i know how hard it is to find places to have children's birthday parties, community meetings or to do a yoga group Does anybody know who has control of this ? - is it available for rent/use. I have no specific need - just seems such a shame that its not being utilised

Trossachs Road From 1 December, Trossachs Road is creating an Advent Calendar. Each evening, up to Christmas, around 5-6pm, a different house will "open" a decorated window to celebrate the season. Attached shows which houses & which days

Cant wait - I visited Tbilisi a few years back and have amazing memories of the food, the wine, those crazy toasts and the incredible hospitality Of particular note are the Khinkali dumplings - and the fact that they re-appear, deep fried, if you leave any Good luck guys -

Me too. The site says "Automatic name and address verification has failed: We automatically attempt to verify your residency" I've lived here for 20 years, am on electoral role, have a Southwark council tax ID and my driving license is at this address. My suspicion, therefore, is that the automatic verification NEVER works. I also suspect that the photo of my driving license is currently in a queue at an offshore processing centre
