Door to door on a 176 or 40 bus from Lordship Lane, good grief what muppet thinks it's a 'dogdy area'? As for decent food, albeit not available at night, Manzi, in Peckham, for the best pie and mash in sarf lunnon! Great, traditional working class grub, without the inconvenience of a table of middle class tossers too scared to go to 'dodgy areas'!

When, oh when will East dulwich finally get a working class chain pub with decent prices & affordable food? I don't suppose anyone from Wetherspoons reads this do they?

I suppose in the past there were jumble sales where you could get rid of your stuff. There hardly seem to be any about these days. But I do agree with the comment about grumpy staff in charidee shops. I realise that they are for a good cause, usually, but I nose about in them not to be charitable, but because I'm looking for a bargain. Usually old books or videos. Is it too much to expect to be served with the good manners that I would treat someone with, when I'm at work, serving members of the public? As for the 'pikeys' going through the stuff after hours, morally wrong, but legally I would guess it doesn't belong to anyone & has been dumped. It's clearly NOT the property of the shops, as they have signs saying do NOT leave donations outside, which must mean they are no claiming the goods. So keep on scavenging, blame the 'do gooder' dumpers.

Well if there had been a statue one of Edgar Kail would have been perfect, he used to live just off the roundabout too. But then I am a Dulwich Hamlet fan, so may be a tad biased! ;-)

Good grief! Do you really think that anyone shoplifting will hold their hands up & say "It's a fair cop, guv?" I think not! Bottom line is someone was caught tealeafing from Somerfield, staff intervened & the person was restrained, maybe got a bit of pain for it & verbally abused, but they were hardly beaten to a pulp, from the osunds of it. What do you want the scurity to do? Hold hands; hug them; take them into the office for a cup tea, not forgetting the biscuits, until the old bill arrive? If you were that concerned you should have made a complaint to the police at the time. I would say the shop is well camera'd up to catch everything.

The hospital,which ended up as part of Dulwich Hospital, but was St Francis Hospital, had wards for geriatric patients for it's latter years. I don't know if it had specific psychiatric wards, I would have thought not, with the Maudsley being so close. With regard to what went where, give or take a few yards: The Kings College Sportsground went from where the St. Francis Park open space is now, up through the Sainsburys carpark, to the adventure playground boundary. It was a very underused private sportsground, that was prone to waterlogging. The currently Dulwich Hamlet ground is roughly on the site of the previous Champion Hill Stadium(1931-1991, with a 30,000 capacity); the site of Sainsburys & part of the car park was the old Top Pitch, or training ground. It was owned by Kings College London (the university people, not the hospital) & as part of this Kings relocated to the Griffin, in the village. The current ground opened on 3rd October 1992.
