  1. Community Panel Members facilitate restorative Referral Order Panels with young people who have committed an offence, their families and occasionally victims. Panel members are listeners, team-workers, people who believe in repairing harm and supporting young people to make the most of their lives. While panel members don’t need any specific qualifications or skills, the role does involve reading reports and understanding complex social situations. 2. Southwark Youth Justice Service is recruiting volunteers again, mainly to lead our community panels with young people who have offended, their parents and sometimes victims. The Ministry of Justice requires five days of training to carry out this role. Training focusses on developing Restorative Justice skills and is interactive and hopefully fun! We ask that potential volunteers take note of the training days - two evenings (remote) and one Saturday (live) in October, then three live Saturdays in November, 10-4.30pm (dates in advert below). All live training takes place at 47B East Dulwich Road. We are also always looking for volunteer mentors and Appropriate Adults (see advert) and volunteers can learn all three roles, if they wish! Please contact me (or [email protected]) for more information and/or an application form. We look forward to hearing from you!! Deirdre Volunteer Advert 2023! 3. Southwark Youth Justice Service is currently looking for volunteers aged over 18, to train as mentors and support some of our young service users. Volunteers will be offered initial training and then support and refresher training, once they are active. We ask for a commitment of at least one volunteering episode each month. Please contact Deirdre if you are interested and would like to know more.
  4. Southwark Youth Offending Service is in need of Panel Members and Mentors to support young offenders and our community. We need men and women aged 21 & above from all ethnicities and social backgrounds - we are, however, particularly keen to recruit male volunteers! We want people who live or work in the borough of Southwark, who are good at listening and who are reliable. No experience needed! Volunteers will get full training and will gain valuable work experience. WHAT DO PANEL MEMBERS DO? Youth Offender Panels deal with young people who commit crime using a restorative approach. They are led by trained volunteers, representing the community. Panels give victims a chance to say how the crime has affected them and what might help to put things right. WHAT DO MENTORS DO? Mentors are involved in Reparation activities with young offenders, enabling them to repair the harm caused by their offending behaviour. Mentors also support individual young offenders practically and emotionally. DATES FOR YOU DIARY? We will be interviewing and training mentors in October/ November 2018. We will be interviewing and training panel members in the New Year 2019. PLEASE CONTACT US FOR MORE INFORMATION AND/OR AN APPLICATION PACK.
  5. Volunteer Opportunities: Get Involved. As a Reparation Mentor you will support the youth offenders in your community to "give back". As a Panel Member you will represent your community & help young offenders make amends for their crimes to victims and the wider community. Do these roles sound interesting? Are you good at listening, talking, and can show commitment? If so, please contact Deirdre Leask (07946 894 727)or Charlene Powell (0798 333 0970)for more information on how to get involved. We need men and women aged 21 & above from all ethnicities and social backgrounds - we are, however, particularly keen to recruit male volunteers. You will get full training to prepare you for both of these challenging yet rewarding roles. We are running a training course for committed volunteers to develop skills in panel facilitation, restorative justice and mentoring young people, in late October and November (mainly on Saturdays) at our offices in East Dulwich Road. We look forward to hearing from you.
