  1. No seriously. I live up the top end of Whateley Road, near the corner with Crystal Palace Road. Heard some shouting outside my window and being the nosy person I am had a good look outside - saw an armed policeman running up Whateley Road and turn right into CPR (strangely enough he had a police flat cap on but was wearing normal clothes). This was too intriguing for words so kept looking out - few police officers standing on the corner of Whateley/Ulverscroft and then five mins later a uniformed armed policeman was standing outside my door (hence taking the rubbish down so I could be nosey!). He told me to go back inside, another five mins went by then the helicopter started hovering overhead and then another five mins (all times are approximate!) later two police cars with their sirens blaring rushed up Whateley but this time turned left onto CPR. Would love to know what was going on, I wasn't the only person to have noticed as people were walking down Whateley Road as the police were there and saw someone hanging out of their window when the helicopter was overhead. Felt like I was in the Bronx! Any further information would be much appreciated.
  2. Police helicopter me thinks - armed policeman on Whateley/Crystal Palace Roads. Took my rubbish out tonight and a policeman with a bloomin' large machine gun told me to go back inside. Anyone know what's going on? It all goes on in East Dulwich!

  7. Hi womanofdulwich I'm afraid I haven't a clue about Smithfields but Borough Market is open tomorrow from 08:00-14:00 and easily reachable on a number 40 bus. I went there this morning and there were plenty of geese and other fine Christmas goodies to be had. SW
  8. Many thanks for organising the speakers at ED station Barry, it really is appreciated. Hope you have a fantastic Christmas and get a big bonus for all your hard work!
  9. I'm with you on that one Timster, I go through the large number of gates you mention at London Bridge and my annual oyster (God bless the work interest free season ticket loan!) won't let me through the last gate to escape the station, it comes up with 'error 41' and I have to go to a guard to let me out. Not a useful post I know but just letting you know you aren't the only one.
  10. Hi Barry Any idea what has been happening to the 08:05 train from ED to London Bridge this week? I have been late for work every day so far this week because of late running or cancelled trains and once I have managed to catch one there is no room to breathe due to being squashed in like sardines! Is it worth catching the bus into work for the rest of the week until whatever the problem is is sorted? This also relates to my earlier postings regarding the speakers as we can't hear why the train is late and when it is due. Apologies for the moan, I think you do a fantastic job Barry, I'm just fed up of waiting in the cold and being late for work!
  11. That's marvellous, many thanks Barry for looking into more speakers at ED station and great idea re the surgery.
  12. Hi Barry I've mentioned this before on this thread and you have kindly responded but at East Dulwich the station announcements still aren't audible on platform 1 (I think - the one going to London Bridge), at the front end of the platform past the shelter where the front of the train stops. Is there anything that can be done about it? Quite often recently the trains have been delayed in the morning and it is frustrating not being able to hear the announcements which I assume say how long and why they have been delayed. Many thanks for all your good work so far. SW
  13. Hmm, there was a Subway branded car parked on Lordship Lane on Sunday morning!
  14. The 343 bus goes from Peckham Rye to City Hall (south side of Tower Brige). See map in link below. http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/gettingaround/maps/buses/pdf/peckhamrye-13344.pdf
  15. That's marvellous, thank you very much Barry.
  16. Hi Barry I posted on this thread earlier about not being able to hear the announcements at East Dulwich station but haven't heard back from you. I think it was just before you went on holiday though so hope you had a good time!
  17. The number on their menu is 020 8693 6548 but not sure of opening hours. We went there today and it was delicious. My pizza was made freshly in front of my eyes. It was just a shame I ran out of room for pudding!
  18. Hi Barry What a star you are! With regards to East Dulwich station speakers, is there a possibility to turn them up or add another without annoying the nearby residents? When standing on the London Bridge bound platform at the end where the front of the train is, it is impossible to hear the announcements properly and because you cannot see the departure board from there (unless you are really tall which I'm not!), you have no idea how long a train is delayed. Thank you for all your hard work. SW

  20. Hello all Was in Londis on the corner of North Cross Road tonight at about 22:15 where a young white lad of about 20 was on the phone to police saying that he had been attacked by a gang on Whateley Road just previously (which is where I live so that was a scary walk home I can tell you!). I did not hear a description of the gang and the only reason why I give a basic description of the guy that was attacked is that there may be a pattern in the type of person the gang go for. Really don't mean to scare anyone but just wanted to make sure everyone is extra vigilant on their journeys around ED. Sorry to hear of your horrible experience mlewis and hope you and your boyfriend are ok.
