Tiny tweak: if I understand your map you turn right from Friendly Gardens to Albyn Road so you can join New Cross Road for a stretch before the start of GHR. I hate New Cross Road because of the traffic, so instead carry on Friendly St to the end and you can then cut through the park (Broadway Gardens) to get to Deals Gateway which is opposite the start of GHR. Means you get a set of lights to yourself.

Or you could go to Odeon in Surrey Quays. 2 tickets to Dumbo tomorrow is ?25 and not as comfortable or with as good amenities as Picturehouse. Presumably they get away with it because they can sell the luxury experience to gullible middle class parents of Surrey Quays.

Nice idea. I've seen couples with babies at the Arch in Bermondsey but not a group. It's a good idea: the kids like the soft mats!

Maybe try a flyer at Trinity Laban in Deptford? -
@Snoopy, kids need a ticket, but cheaper.

Why are these bikes "littering" when they're parked but all cars stopped on my road are "parked"? Maybe just because we're used to the latter and need to get used to the former?

@Sally Eva, I think Vince has stopped doing green frogs at Ayres. Sad times.

We're staying here this weekend with similar big group: http://www.derbyshireholidaycottages.co.uk/ and have stayed here a couple of times (Peak Venues as mentioned by scareyt) http://www.peakvenues.co.uk/venues/2/hurdlow-grange/ Has the advantage of a big dining room so you can eat together. Both Peak District though, so no beaches... -
Paris with a toddler - advice needed

Jardin des Plantes (sp), and natural history museum, is (at least) a day's worth of fun. NHM (http://www.mnhn.fr/) is good, there's a really good museum of evolution, which is lots of skeletons from dinosaurs to humans, but all arranged so they face the same way, as if all marching out of the room. The park also has a good zoo, plus lots of grass, playgrounds, giant greenhouses, ice creams.... -
Camping Bella Italia (we hired a static caravan rather than camp) https://www.camping-bellaitalia.it/en/ Great swimming pool for kids, walk to Peschiere, cycle to Sirmione, train to Verona.

We put a toilet in under the stairs, opposite the cellar door, slightly jutting into the corner of the kitchen. You don't notice it in the kitchen because it fits with the line of cupboards on that wall. We moved the cellar door about a foot or so into the cellar to make sure we had access space there.

9-year-old daughter into coding - now what?
njc97 replied to redjam's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My 8yo loves his Kano: mostly scratch and hacking minecraft. A slightly cheaper alternative is to buy a raspberry pi and accessories, and then plug it into the TV: https://www.raspberrypi.org/ The Kano kit is a raspberry pi, plus case, keyboard, screen etc, and the kano software which has loads of stuff specifically designed for kids. My son loved just building it, even before he turned it on and realised it means he's got his own computer. -
ANy particular location? We really liked the Evesham Hotel's Alice in Wonderland suite. Kids will love it: http://eveshamhotel.com/rooms/family-suite/

Recommendations wanted pls: really good apps for 4-8yrs
njc97 replied to sarahew's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My 7yo son uses Mathletics at school and at home: it's sums but quite fun and you get badges for getting numbers right. And you can do challenges against other children around the world. There's a really good BBC Dr Who game. 50% is just a platform game, but then you have to solve puzzles by programming a dalek. A good way to get kids thinking in an algorithmic way. At the bottom end, the best game I've seen is still "Where's my water". Problem solving skills but not much learning. The free version comes with annoying ads, but doesn't hassle you to pay for things as much as others. -
Secondary school recommendations Peckham Rye
njc97 replied to emc's topic in The Family Room Discussion
tasha1 - Habs have 2 primaries in their "federation". 1 is a mile or so away in New Cross, and kids get into the secondary automatically, which uses up to 60 places. The second one is on site, but only has kids up to year 3 at the moment (as it only opened 3 years ago) so they won't start in secondary for a few years. -
No mentions for Anderson & Co - good Square Mile Red Brick espresso when I last went in.

If you're willing to walk to Peckham Rye, you could go via Old Spike Roast. Excellent coffee.

Louisa - is the Pyros not still old school enough? I hope someone doesn't do it up because I doubt it'll work: Old Nuns Head is opposite and does the hipster thing very well but they work very hard to get a decent number of people in during the week. Plus the excellent but tiny Beer Shop. I don't think there's enough young drinkers around to justify another place like that so close.

Deliveroo: please keep your cyclists safe
njc97 replied to Robert Poste's Child's topic in The Lounge
I don't think Deliveroo deliverers are their employees, it's an "Uber model" whereby they're all self-employed. Avoids that nasty duty of care stuff. -
Help needed - Any company or copyright law buffs? Or small business experts?
njc97 replied to fatcats's topic in The Lounge
The can't just transfer all the assets out of company and leave the debts behind. As Burbage said, you need to be clear which company you engaged with. If that company is being "restructured" and is insolvent, then they should have appointed administrators and posted notice in the London Gazette. Eg: https://www.thegazette.co.uk/notice/2584431 If Company A is insolvent and unable to pay its debts, then the adminstrator will try to get best value from its assets (e.g. Brand A, the value of your work) and pay as big a % of Company A's debts (yours) as is possible. Key is that they have to treat all creditors fairly. -
My son goes to the Saturday class at the Laban that melv mentions, and they sound just what you're looking for. There are/can be long waiting lists, but they do seem a bit random so worth speaking to them in advance of next term. The other thing he does is Capoeira, which is Brazilian martial art which is very dance-like but not as formal as ballet.

My very nearly 4 year old daughter loves her classes with SR Dance at Barnes Wallis centre by New Cross Gate/Queens Road Peckham: http://www.srdance.co.uk/ Similar to eos, you pay for the term but you dont get in trouble if you miss classes.
