  4. All, Great news today for those concerned about the possibility of house price declines; famous 73% government owned Royal Bank of Scotland sat the Bank of England's (essentially RBS's boss, much to the chagrin of some) 2016 "Stress Test" paper. The test examined, inter alia, the examinee bank's resiliance under a housing market crash. The result? A resounding failure, so no danger of any sustained house market weakness, at least until they get their balance sheet in order, which has thus far proven a lengthy process.

    NHS Costs

AM, PW, If AM was quoted the same amount for a different treatment then it is probably an average for all missed appointments. In that case the text is at best poorly written and at worst deliberately misleading. I suppose you could argue that the end justifies the means even if it's the latter. Miga, The appointment was with a physio at an NHS hospital so not already outsourced. A comparable appointment at a private practice would be ?50-60 in central London at most places.

    NHS Costs

I received a text appointment reminder for an NHS physio appointment. The text also laid out the costs of not attending to the NHS. I can of course understand this as a tool to prevent missed appointments by making people feel accountable. I would also expect from an ethical perspective that the amount quoted would be accurate. The amount quoted was ?160, which surprised me greatly given I could easily find a private option for ?50-60. Are the costs really ~3x higher for the NHS? If so surely it is a no brainier for the NHS to outsource these treatments to a private sector provider and make an instant saving? This probably misses some additional costs that would be incurred in administering and qualifying external providers, however given the bulk buying power the NHS would have discounted prices could surely be negotiated to at least offset this somewhat.
  7. Supply is structurally short of demand which is supportive of prices over the long term. But that doesn't preclude corrections occurring.
  8. MMM, So YOU are the BMW driver that nearly run down RRR!
  9. Rendel, Examples of corporate cosying? Im not surprised that he has, however I wouldn't expect this to have been motivated by an intrinsic affinity for corporations, rather that doing so would have been in his view the most efficient method of furthering whatever his particular personal agenda was at that point in time, and so we can't assume he will behave the same way in the future. Seabag, I'd guess that having made as much as he has already, money won't be his primary motivation, rather a yearning for greater power, having realised it is that not money that can grisly satisfy him.
  10. I see that the Best Western hotel that is being renovated on Peckham Road have erected a display in the courtyard of a yellow Reliant Regal complete with brown suitcase and Delboy and Rodney wax works. How long has this been there? If we in South East London are ever going to shake our image as good for nothing except making an exceptionally good deal this shameless appropriation our culture by corporate interests for their own financial gain really must stop.

  17. Quids, I am suspicious of folk who begin sentences with the likes of "to be honest with you". I would however be supportive of a section entitled "I am a truly miserable bastard".
  18. Double D just mentioned that next week's show will be in "South London". The website is even cagier in divulging details, stating only "London". Anyone know where this is likely to be?

  20. All, When he states in his conclusion that some parts of Peckham may not be everyone's cup of tea because they are gritty, which parts is he referring to? Is he literally stating this because he believes some of his readers would not be comfortable in those parts of Peckham?
  21. Jah, I believe you, but what am I missing from the link: "A location has not yet been set for this fixture."?
