If anyone is wanting to join an Early Days Postnatal Course the NCT runs these regularly in East Dulwich (and other areas). The courses are for parents of babies aged 2 weeks to 6 months (with their baby/ies) and are a great way to meet other parents in a non-judgemental environment to explore what you thought being a parent would be like vs. the reality! The feedback is really good from these courses, and it gives you an opportunity to discuss things which you may not have thought of with a qualified and experienced NCT Practitioner. Courses have been running in East Dulwich for several years. Contact Alison: [email protected] for more info. Also look at main NCT website: www.nct.org.uk All the best, Pip

Are you free on Wed July 8th at 11am? If so come and join us at The Dish & Spoon Caf? 61 Cheltenham Rd, SE15 3AF. We will be deciding which events to plan and run in the coming months for parents-to-be and young families. As this is a team of local parents we could do with some extra pairs of hands in working on the detail for these events. Come and share your ideas for what is needed in the area, and maybe help out in setting things up. PM me for more details See you there? Pippa

Pregnancy classes & ways to meet people
Pippa21 replied to KJ&bump's topic in The Family Room Discussion
NCT run Signature and Essentials antenatal courses locally. Also Early Days Postnatal courses, introducing solids workshops, returning to work workshops, waterbirth workshops, homebirth groups and lots more! To find out when all the courses are on go to the main NCT website: nct.org.uk and look at the course finder section. there are some spaces on local courses, so if you want to talk with someone about a specific area/course/workshop contact Alison: [email protected] I agree with the previous post about getting to know people through NCT antenatal courses, someone I worked with held a party to celebrate their NCT antenatal groups children's 18th birthdays a while ago......they had all met through NCT classes and had a reunion each New Year. Each Tuesday the Crooked Well Pub in SE5 open their doors to pregnant women and new parents + babies. I'll be there this Tuesday so if you are around come along or when you are on maternity leave why not join us? All the best -
Lovely group for Bumps and Babies meets every Tues morning from 10.30am at The Crooked Well SE5. Anyone going this Tues? see you there

NCT Essentials v NCT Signature??
Pippa21 replied to balanceforlife's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I run NCT Essentials courses and other NCT colleagues locally run the NCT Signature courses. The main differences are that the Ess courses run over 6 sessions, 5 before the baby/ies are due, and one after as a reunion. The Sig courses are longer and include a dedicated breastfeeding session, whereas the Ess courses include feeding within the 5 antenatal sessions. Sig courses also have a reunion. The Sig courses are more bespoke with the group helping to set the agenda for the course and the Ess courses follow a syllabus. For more detailed info please have a look on the main NCT website: www.nct.org.uk and I'll try and attach info to this post and you could contact Alison on: [email protected] who knows all about the different courses. There are also intensive NCT antenatal courses and refreshers, as well as Postnatal courses, Introducing Solids Workshops and Returning to Work Workshops etc. Will add other info in separate post below. All the best -
The local Introducing Solids Workshops (NCT) are very popular, how about coming along to one to help build your confidence and enjoy the journey with food? Info attached, or contact Alison: [email protected] for local workshops.

Raising boys / raising girls books - recommended?
Pippa21 replied to srisky's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Yes! I had a girl first and then a boy. Girl rode a bike age 9 years, boy constantly riding in circles backwards at Nursery. So many differences, and when I read Raising Boys I was so relieved. Easy to read, and explained what I could see with my own eyes.....they are different. I come from a family of 4 girls, so the book was helpful on lots of levels e.g. the idea that children in our society don't have rites of passage when they become teenagers. That really made me think, and helped us talk with our children about a goal they would like to attain when they were 13. all the best
