  1. My son has just began his new secondary school and has already been bombarded with homework. Whilst I agree that childen should do some homework I do think that after a long day at school (leaving in the morning before 8 and getting home at 4)children are tired need to relax. He has been set homework in every subject and i can't see that changing. If anything it will become more intense. It is still very early days so will need to see if the homework is marked by the teachers and more importantly if he gets some of it wrong will it be corrected and explained to him where he went wrong. At primary school he got his share of homework, mainly math sheets and spelling tests and evening reading all of which was managable (if a little strssful at times)but this is alot more than I expected. Am I alone in this and will it get better or worse and is it really necessary to set so much?
  2. All my childhood holidays were camping holidays or outdoor activity holidays. We used to go to a fantastic shop at Crystal Palace Called 'Crystal Palace Camping'. They sold everything you could need for the great outdoors from tents to wellington boots. Can I suggest a camping shop.
  3. Anything on the Trojan label was big in our house and all those parties that we went to as kids.

  6. I saw the report on the BBC news yesterday and from what i heard immigrants do not get priority and jump the housing list despite the belief of some of those interviewed. The two people who they spoke to who believed that immigrants got priority was a BNP Cllr who was perpetrating a myth to gain seats on the local council and a single white british women with 4 children and another on the way moaning she couldn't get a house, they didn't exactly sell the argument. I'm with those that believe those in genuine need of sanctuary from persecution should be offered as safe haven. Those that want to sponge off society whilst not wanting to contribute are not welcome.
  7. It's terribly sad news. Thoughts and feelings to all involved.
  8. There was on hovering so you may be lucky.
  9. It is my understanding that he did sell to a developer just before the slump in the market and did very nicely from the deal so could have a very comfortable retirement. I would imagine that who ever bought it are either waiting for planning permission or holding on till the market picks up. The guy who owned it was a really nice bloke. I hope he is enjoying himself.

Me three and we are in good company. Elvis Cosetello wrote 'Tramp the dirt down'about how he felt about her.
  11. Thanks for that information happyED. It is good to see that they are looking at the issue. My main concern is that using the P13 wil be overcrowded and the driver may refuse to allow children on because of lack of space. The problem would be worst in the morning when all the children leave at the same time to arrive on time for school. Kingsdale encourages after school activities so the school leaving time may well be staggered.
  12. I have lots of fond memories of the Lido. In my teens we spent most summers there. After school it was 'meet at the Lido'. South London had a few Lido's including Peckham common. If you havn't been then i suggest that you should get down to Brockwell Park.
  13. It's a sad state of affairs. The few spoiling it for the masses. My partner was recently told off for filming our son playing football. I think that individual organisations have there own stance and implement it. Personnally i think it is very sad. Many of our accounts of history and local events are pictorial.
  14. I was too busy telling my son and his sleepover friends to shut up and get some bloody sleep. Fireworks? anyday. And they woke up really early too.
  15. We know we shouldn't hit our children but she probably regretted it the moment she had done it. Don't judge her too harshly.
  16. Only for a couple of days, the scent then fades but the foxes won't return. They'll go to some other poor souls garden.
  17. Buy this stuff from the Dulwich Garen Centre. Can't remember he name but it's a pungent scented liquid. You put it on rags around the garden and the foxes will leave.

    Great Gigs

Scariest was a Rock against Racism gig at Brixton Town Hall (79/80). I can?t recall any of the acts but they were mostly Punk bands. Everything was going well when it suddenly all kicked off. Lots of shouting and swearing, bottles thrown, blood and vomit.
  19. Hi Bob No i mean all his assets will have been frozen. He owes millions. His record company will have advanced him huge amounts of money that they will need to be recouped. I do hope you are right and they are financially secure. They are the only innocent party in all this.
  20. The legal process of who gets what and who is owed what will take years. As we speak the bottom feeders are making their case for compo etc. The kids will be 'represented' by a legal team who will have their own interests in the front of their minds and not the children.By the time they lawyers have finished those kids won't have a pot to piss in.
  21. I think Thriller was written by a bloke from Cleethorpes.

    Great Gigs

Already posted best gig being Bob Marley and the Wailers at Crystal Palace. But you never forget your first gig. Thin Lizzy at Earls court.
  23. I was saddened to hear the news of his death but not shocked. I saw him twice in concert and he was a true showman, a great performer and has made some of the best pop songs ever. There are two sides to MJ ? The weird behaviour, prescription drugs, the surgery, the court cases etc, etc and then there is the music, the dance and his influence on popular culture. I personally believe that MJ was a very sick individual physically, mentally and morally and for very many reasons. But his legacy has to be his music.
