  1. FYI Today in Peckham Rye Park a couple of mopeds sped into the park past the skate park and then onto the lake area, they drove up and down a few times, unfortunately we missed the number plates but I did report to the police. Looked like a couple of youths, they had they're faces covered with balaclavas, as you can imagine the park was full of little ones, luckily no one was on the path! Felt like the aim was to intimidate. Obviously extremely dangerous please report if you see anything suspicious.

  6. CCTV showed that a friend of a friend left The Bishop at around 1.50am, turns out he was so drunk he just picked up the coat next to him for some reason unknown to him! Unfortunately he was also so drunk that he didn't make his way straight home and randomly ended up in camberwell. So somewhere between ED and camberwell is my coat! If anyone finds a whistles coat its mine, probably long gone? I've checked the local kebab and taxi firm, no luck! Glad I found out who picked it up though, still hope to be reunited :(
  7. I agree Minder Topshop seem to have increased their prices! I'm a less is more girl so I tend to maybe buy a more expensive one and look after it, like my whistles one :( I know its only a coat but it was probably worth more than the average handbag, well mine anyway! The CCTV is going to make embarrassing viewing! With 2 young kids I don't get out much. Definitely going to keep an eye on eBay etc.. Thanks
  8. Right so I know this is a long shot but I was out on Saturday evening celebrating a friends birthday, we were sitting in the alcove by the front window all night (one to the left as you walk in the door), a few of our coats were grouped together on the seating benches close to the door. When I came to leave my coat was missing, I had just popped outside for 15 mins with a friend for a cigarette, my coat was still there at this point, this was around closing time. If it was just my cheap Topshop coat I probably wouldn't be posting this. Please be vigilant I suppose after a few drinks we all let our guard down but it's not pleasant having the things we work so hard for taken. WHISTLES Animal print coat (brown & black leopard print), yes it's expensive and I probably shouldn't have worn it to the pub but its not about the money it's my favourite coat that I saved up for and I'm pretty annoyed that someone has just walked out with it. You can't get hold of it anymore. I checked the pub that night the staff have been really helpful and I'm going in to check the CCTV Monday. None of our friends went home with it so I can only assume it has been stolen or mistakenly taken home. Please, PLEASE if anyone discovers a coat matching this description can you hand it back into the Bishop or PM me. I will be eternally grateful!! Ended a rather nice evening out on a bitter note... Thanks
  9. Thanks for the feedback it really helps to hear that others are happy with the nursery. I've had a mixed experience with Puddleduck's through friends who have sent their children there only to remove them. It's very personal though and what one expects from a nursery might be different to another. LC is a little rough around the edges but sometimes the best nurseries are! thanks
  10. Can anyone recommend little climbers nursery in Nunhead SE15? I'm thinking of moving my child who's 3 in October to a nursery closer to home, any feedback good or bad would be appreciated! I want the move to be worthwhile he is really happy at his current nursery and part of the decision to move is financial, Thanks
  11. Shannons is best i reckon
  12. And why is it gossip if his neighbour was a witness, nothing wrong with taking an interest in what's happening on your doorstep.
  13. Thanks for keeping us informed but there was definitely something very serious going on along Athenlay Rd, I spoke to one of the officers briefly at around 6pm that evening and was told that it was a Road Rage incident. There were numbered forensic markers in the road and forensics photographing the scene. Several properties on both sides of the street were taped off. Renata maybe you could find out what Happened along Athenlay Rd? Personally I would like to know what's been happening at the top of our street! 14. Yes we've been calling UK Power network as have our neighbours. We had our house re-wired about 3 years ago so it's a new electrical system but it's also very sensitive compared to our neighbours. I suggest having a word with your neighbours, provide them with the number as if no one else has called in it seems standard that they suggest it's your problem. Ours are flickering every day now. I think some neighbours didn't want to bother them or presumed it wasn't a big deal but it was affecting our supply more than theirs.
  15. Wow this actually seems to be quite a problem in Nunhead then! I thought it was just our street, we've been having ongoing issues with flickering lights but as we have a particularly sensitive RCD system ours actually trips out, just before Christmas it happened about 20 in one day. I'm constantly on the phone to them, even if your lights are just flickering you need to report it, the more calls they get the more seriously the take it. A few months back it was really bad we had their engineers out they determined that the problem was in the street not our house but said nothing could be done until something went bang!? Anyway low and behold the next day we came home to the road taped off by the fire brigade. The opposite side of the street had a power cut and there had been a fire in one of the cables, dangerously there had also been a gas leak near the fire! All was put right apparently and electrics were sound for a few months. Now our power is cutting out again and the flickering lights are a daily Issue. So I would urge people to call in, it's how they monitor the situation. Sooner they get it sorted the better it's a right pain having to reset everything computers etc...and as we have seen in our street it can be dangerous! Rant over!
  16. Thanks telemum that's really helpful! We have an old iPod we can use, seems better than having some bulky kids CD player next to the bed. I think he's really going to enjoy audio stories :)
  17. Can anyone recommend the best thing to buy to play audio stories on at bedtime, I have a 4 year old boy who would love stories at bedtime after we have finished doing our books. What I'm struggling with is what to play them on. I could go for a cheap CD player but was wondering what other people use? or if there is some kind of iPod doc or iphone thing available? you can probably tell I'm not very clued up on all this! Seems silly buying a CD player if CD's will soon be a thing of the past. I'm also not keen on any garish character player like the Cars boombox players or early learning type thing with the Karaoke... sorry toy snob alert! Thanks
  18. So 3 months ago we bought a new iMac, 21.5" 8GB, due to family life and a busy summer the box has remained unopened. Apple have just released the New iMac, we're now kicking ourselves that we didn't hold off (well my other half is kicking me) Advise would be appreciated, do we open and enjoy a new computer or sell accepting the loss and buy the latest model?
  19. BT Sport is free if you have broadband they also have plenty of "top picks" for example Spurss vs Chelsea yesterday they are a serious competitor to sky
  20. Southwark is as the crow flys, if you email them you can request distances from your home to nearest schools. Lewisham were great and gave me the distances over the phone, southwark never got back to me! Worth a shot though. We also found that the nursery attached to our local school used a different system and handled Applications themselves, whereas Southwark handles all the school admissions. They used a post code program online which wasn't very accurate!
  21. So I've decided on solid tier on tier shutters, getting quotes from The New England Shutter Company very nice but expensive, waiting on The traditional shutter company to measure up. As previous people have said I also prefer the frame to sit behind the shutters something that both these companies do. I'm just wondering now though if it's better to get a carpenter to make them? Or stick with a specialist, because we're going solid now I imagine this might be cheaper but I don't want to compromise on quality etc.. Anyone had experience with this? Thanks
  22. I think you have to take the commute into account over an hour to get to school is too long, I used to travel from ED to Orpinton for college. Looking back I should have chosen a local college, most days I felt unmotivated to go, plus getting up so much earlier, not a great start to the school day. Something to consider...
  23. It wasn't until my little boy started nursery school that we also discovered this, I thought it was a bit odd. I told him to tell one of the teachers when he needed a poo, although they couldn't help they kept wipes in the cupboard so he always asked for a wipe. He was never as clean as I would have liked, he was one of the youngest too. No major disasters using this system, one of his teachers became his 'poo buddy' she though it was quite funny. I'm all for them learning but if they have an accident someone needs to step in! They would however get them changed if clothes were wet or soiled. He's just started school and we have had a few wetting himself incidents that have gone unnoticed, he gets too involved in playing to stop and go, I have asked the teachers to remind him, their still young, completely agree sitting in wee or poo part of the day is more unhygienic!
  24. I have to admit it is in the back of my mind, I'm not sure what I would do probably panic! I don't feel in danger but it does make me a bit nervous when dogs are off their lead weaving about the kids. I've told them not to approach dogs as I would rather they be wary of all even if the dogs are friendly.
  25. This is really helpful thanks everyone. I have decided that I need to see a few houses and possibly visit the New England Shutter Company's showroom to be sure of what I'm after. Think we will go for tier on tier but I don't want them to look too traditional, love the solid ones or the simple slatted shutters with the pole hidden. I did have a rough quote from the Traditional Shutter Company working out at ?2080 for our bedroom bay window plus a single small sash to the side of the bay, this seems like a lot, but they do produce them in the UK and the frame sits behind the shutters rather than around, same for the New England Shutter Company. This still seems like quite a lot!? I will investigate the other suggestions, I'm assuming the ones from china are of a good standard if quite a few of you are recommending them but as of yet I have seen nothing in the flesh. the New England Shutter Company quoted ?1847 plus fitting, they have 25% of their white range at the moment, this was the discounted price, but unfortunately they are the ones with the shutter rod in the middle, other ranges and styles will be considerably more! Too many options!! Also from street view they all seem slightly green or off-white is this just because the glass distorts them? do most of you have white ones that appear different from the outside? Thanks again!
