  1. This is shocking! I had missed this totally, I will be writing to Boris, the train lord.... and Tessa Jowell tonight. And I thought our transport was getting better with the ELL x..... Typical! Thanks to everyone for campaigning and keep up the great work!!
  2. Another wonderful outdoor cinema night last night. We went last year and were very happy to go again last night. Well done George, we are looking forwards to next year! Lots of blankets and jumpers are essential for once the sun goes down as is a ground sheet! Enjoy if you are going next weekend, I am away but would have gone again!
  3. Loz, there is no design fault that means why E&C shouldn't be safe for all road users. It is inconsiderate/ lazy/ aggresive/ uaware drivers who make it unsafe for cyclists. There are two trains of thoughs here, either avoid altogether or safty in numbers. I wish we had a proper cycling culture in the UK to be able to have safety in numbers but we don't. We have rather a negative view of cyclists in this country and that allowed drivers to behave aggresively towards them. Pesonally I chose to avoid the roundabout but I respect those who choose to go through it, if it highlights to one car driver that cyclists are proper road users then it is benifit to many many more.... cyclists should be able to use major intersections without feering their lives, why should they be inconvenienced to go round the back streets just because of lack of proper road saftey awarenes...
  4. Oh! and "This year, funding for cycling will no longer be allocated centrally by the mayor, with each borough setting aside a portion of its own transport budget. " see the link below from LCC http://www.lcc.org.uk/index.asp?Pageid=1466 So basically we all need to ask Southwark what they are proposing to do and to encourage them to feature cyclist's safty highly this coming year...
  5. "I (madly) STILL go around that double roundabout on my bike. I did try to use the by-pass once...but I ended up in the OLD KENT ROAD, which was even scarier (to my mind)...whether or not I took a wrong turn I don't know, but I've never risked it again." Oh no! Once you have got the route sorted then it is super easy.... So much nicer than going round the roundabout... I feel far, far less stressed/worried/anxious/frightened (all the emotions that one goes through on this roundabout) now I do not go round it. Perhaps have a look on a map and go round it when you have a bit of time, most of it is marked on the road but it can be a little confusing at first..... well worth it I can assure you! Anyway I deviate.... We should all report our road incidents so as to increase the profile of cyclist incidents and create more awarenes and hopefullly then more careful and respectful drivers.... here's hoping anyway!
  6. I'm thinking about petitioning Tessa Jowell to get The Met to some high-profile traffic enforcement in the area. Would anyone care to join me in this? Yep! Definatly, I'm a cylist and am often shocked by the lack of cosideration shown by other road users, which is terifying considering we are the most vunerable road users (padestrians excluded). I have also had several incidents with Clarkes Coaches, one included me nearly being squashed on the left hand side (I did NOT cycle down his left hand side, he drove around me) as he continued to drive to the left with me on the inside on the E&C round about (I now take the lovely cycle bypass instead). He then blamed me and shouted at me (persumably with people in his coach) for cycling 'too slowly' (thankfully I took no offence seeing as he was 20 + stone) but what a horrific example for your buisness to set! Let me know where to sign the Petition Treetoad, anything to make our roads safer is a possitive thing...
  7. we live just off the south (ish) end of LL, past the Magnolia. 10 mins from the station, 10 mins from dulwich park, 5 mins or so to the 'middle' of the hub of LL, 10 mins to peckham rye .... only problem is we are so close to LL and the busses are noisy but apart from that a great spot...
  8. I would like to donate my old computer, a MAC G4 to a charity that will make use of it. Does anyone know of any charity organisations that accept computers? Thanks.
  9. Does anyone know what time Blackbird opens in the mornings? Thanks
  10. Jimmy Two Times You are an idiot. I am so glad everyone else here agrees. If you continue to have you ridiculous attitude you are very likely to injure or even kill a human being (cyclist or not we are still human!) There are bad cyclist and bad drivers on the road but it is the drivers who are the real danger. You will have to either get used to cyclists pretty soon or I would suggest moving out of London as our dear friend Boris is planning to get cycling up by 400% by 2012.... unfortunately for you, your chosen mode of transport is not the future! I suggest getting off your ass and out of your horrible polluting, dangerous car and cycling somewhere (of course you would be a brilliant cyclist, I'm sure) before making ridiculous and uneducated comments such as the ones you posted. oh and by the way 'they present a clear hazzard for all road users' WE ARE ROAD USERS! Perhaps try by letting a cyclist out (when was the last time you did this?) and have a look at the supprise on their face! We are the most vunerable road users and we are treated like crap, and although this is no excuse for bad cycling, I can see why people can think it is. Let's have some harmony on our roads and hopefully we can start to have far fewer deaths such as the woman in Peckam last week and the woman at Elephant and castle.
  11. I came home on the last train one evening from a works do, in a very unfit state.... (I am not proud of myself!) I don't think I was walking in a straight line, anyway a very nice gent on the way off the train asked if I would be ok getting home.... I think I mumbled something about taking the bus, and I guess that is what I did, but I knew he was looking out for me, (and not in a creepy way) I got mugged walking home from work at 6pm when I lived in Forest Hill, there was another guy 20 yards down the road from me (as in, I wasn't alone on the street!)... It is a safe area, but it is London, take care when going home late & alone. Enjoy it though, it is the best part of London to live in (perhaps)
  12. There is someone who sells a lot of bikes on Gumtree from east Dulwich, a few bikes a day, they are all photographed outside in what looks like a garden, do you think this could be them or somone legit? Dulwich Monkey, it might be worth checking if they are selling you bike on there.... The one problem with bikes becoming more and more popular is that the bike theves are on the up and they are getting better and better.... b*****ds!
  13. I am very saddened to hear about these two accidents, I went through E&C last night and enjoyed the quiet roads (I ALWAYS use the cycle bypass) but I didn't realise something so tragic had happened. As a cylist I can honestly say that it is impossible to avoid altogether lorries, coaches, big SUV's etc, and so it is very important for cyclists AND drivers to be aware of each other. Drivers really need to understand that cyclist will move infront of them in stationary traffic especially at lights (as it is safest to be at the front of the lights when they change). We all need to look out for one another on the roads and be more consierate and hopefully we will have fewer accidents. Cyclist are the most vunerable road users so all motorist should pay extra special attention to them. We should encourage cyclists, especially female cyclists as we need more carbon neutral forms of transport, and we need more exercise..... embrace the bikes and be nice to them, don't run them over and we will be nice to you too!
  14. Glad you made the right chioce Pilsbury, the sea cow is brilliant. The Coley is cheaper (if I remember correctly) and nicer than the cod. And Yes, we should all eat no more cod, especially when there are such tasty other fishes about... welcome to the area, enjoy the fish & Chips!
  15. Was just trying to find out the same thing... Going on at James Allen school from what I can see... What amazing fireworks!
  16. Penk - 'viral' advertising such as forums are increasingly very valuable for gauging public opinions.... don't rule out the idea that this could well be someone trying to find out whether it is viable, I am sure they would also conduct other research, but something like this would be really valuable and cheap way of getting opinions.... Ann Summers hey..... Well it would make for a fun Saturday morning, pop out to shops, buy over priced but yummy crackers in ED Deli, overpriced and not really worth it veg in SMBS & and an overpriced piece of tat from ann summers.... Personally I wouldn't go anywhere other than Myla.
  17. Oh my god! Poor thing, I hope she is ok, what a horrific experience. Isn't it very sad that people have stopped confronting others through their own feer, it is a very sad that as a society we are so scared of 'others' and their reactions that we fail so say anything when others are being abused in public. and what a disgusting man!
  18. *bob* Obviously if it had been a better newspaper.. no problem. Problem is Bob, 'better' papers have news to write about.... this was the poor woman's best chance at fame!
  19. Thanks all! Yes, the signs were not there, which is why I realised that the bus wasn't going to turn up! No explination though... I obviously don't look closely enough to bus stops! thankfully the bakerloo line saved me... !
  20. Did I totally miss this, I waited for 20 mins for a 176 at oxford circus the other night only to find out it doesn't go there anymore..... ! I get this bus a fair bit and missed this- when did it happen? Does anyone know why either?
  21. Hi, we had our communal front door kicked in whilst we were on holiday this summer, it was only on the yale, so really easy. Luckely though our flat front door opens outwards (impossible to kick in- somone would need specialist tools to drill out the deadlocks) and our neighbours door has a 'london bar'(?) (I think it's called this) which is a metal bar over her locks (obviously I don't understand how it works!) but anyway dispite kicking so hard they cracked the door frame away from the wall they didn't get the door in! what a lucky escape We now use the Deadlock on the communal front door... but I do worry about getting out in a fire, I will hide one in the hall way from now on- thanks for the prompt! The police said they had had seen similar incidents reported when we reported ours.
  22. Oh we have mice at the moment.... we live in a 2nd/3rd floor flat & can't block where they are getting in as it's where the heating pipes come up.. we are just trying the humane traps (2 so far!)
  23. John from Underhill road is the best taxi driver ever! I used him to drive me to my wedding in the summer! such a nice guy! Whatever you do don't use Panther cars, I have used them a few times due to lack of knowing any other mini cab firms in the area and they are such dangerous drivers! we once went to Balham with them in seccond gear the whole way!
