  1. And the noise more deafening than last night.. No warnings or info through the door, it shouldn't be allowed??!
  2. I have the original plan of works along East Dulwich Grove they sent round months ago and it says all works would be done between 0800 and 1700.. It mentions the night road closure (scheduled for May!) but nothing about them doing it at night. How will we sleep?! Not sure of the rules but it can't be right!
  3. They are resurfacing the road now. It's deafening, and getting on for 11 pm. Hopefully it won't be an all-nighter...
  4. Stabbing. They were searching for the knife for ages outside my house, as we saw the person (youth) who did it run away down Glengarry. We are not sure if they found said knife but they had a dog searching for it for quite a while. It's depressing, this corner of Glengarry is a crime hotspot. In the 3 years I've lived here there have been at least 5 crimes - mugging (me), assault, break-ins etc. Bring back youth clubs!
  5. Hi everyone, thanks for your kind and funny comments! Love the idea of a van balcony, I'll look into it :) it's different cars that just seem to pick on the van, it's odd. We realise space is at a premium but there are some houses with 2 cars that take up more space! C
  6. Ha! Van is new and shiny and I dare not bump its ends! Note left on windscreens is a good idea, I should have thought of that really! Many thanks.
  7. This isn't particularly interesting but I wondered if anyone knew the legality of the situation where you can't use your car because 2 others have sandwiched it? I needed to use my van this evening (it's for my partner's business) but I can't as it's been parked bumper to bumper on both sides. I don't know who owns the 2 cars. Irksome! It's on Glengarry Road and I use it regularly so it's not been sitting in the same place yet this keeps happening. It's no larger than an estate car, and it's not a luxury, yet we feel we are being punished somehow! Thoughts appreciated! Thanks Cab
  8. I live right next to where this happened and didn't hear a thing, when usually I hear everything that goes on in that alley. I think despite recommendations for self-defence classes, alarms etc, screaming etc, when someone is threatening you and you are terrified there's not a lot you can do. I was mugged on my doorstep (poor Glengarry Road!) a year ago and despite screaming very loudly, no one heard me apart from one of neighbours but even then they thought it was just a fox. I was being vigilant, wasn't drunk, did'nt have my phone out or headphones in but was just followed and before I knew it was on the ground having had my bag ripped from me. It all happens very quickly.
  9. How does the local business know, I wonder? I hope this isn't true.
  10. Lots of police, a cordon, and men in white boiler suits sniffing around behind the butchers. What's going on I wonder? (let's hope those 'pork chops' from William Rose were actually from a pig...!)
  11. So sorry this happened to you. Exactly the same thing happened to me a year ago - I was followed down Melbourne Grove and then attacked and mugged on my front door step as I was putting the keys in. Lost my bag and lots of confidence!! It comes back, don't worry, you will feel normal and safe again. I assumed they didn't find the person who did this to me but the police were nice all the same.
  12. Hi Marion, I would be interested in joining this group! I don't think there is anything like this in the local area, I did sme research a while ago. It would be good for people like us to be able to get together. chloe.
  13. Oh nooo! That is such a shame. Dr Ghosh is really nice, I would recommend him, but I am not sure if he is a locum. That placed is cursed...
  14. I've been asked for money by the scarred eyed grey tracksuit man. He hangs around on East D Grove asking people for money. He says he's been stabbed and just out of hospital all the time, then forgets and tells the same story to the same people again and again. He's and alcoholic - the police had to scoop him up as he was unconscious outside William Rose on ED Grove the other day. Then a few days later I saw him up and about but drunk. He needs help, I feel sorry for him but he does need to think up some new stories!
  15. Very unreliable, I have waited up to 30 minutes for a bus at weekends/evenings. Only time i've ever seen someone shoot heroin was on the 37. Quicker to walk to Herne Hill than to wait for a bus. Too few of them!!
  16. Peckham?! Get with it, tattoos are so NOT Peckham. Shoreditch, Soho, yes... Honestly... I despair.
  17. They lost my stool sample at Melbourne Grove. I had to do another. I enjoyed pressing it into the palms of the reception staff... TWICE...;)
  18. We should all be glad the police are doing their job and flushing out criminals! We live at the top end of the road and have seen 'suspect' dealings a couple of times now, not that this is evidence enough to suggest criminal activity, more a hunch really. What IS actually scary is what happened to me last month - attack and mugging outside my front door whilst putting the key in the lock. East Dulwich is lovely but there are some dodgy folk about. Please be careful!
  19. Avoid Winkworth, they are amateurs and show you houses you can't afford, allow people to 'gazump' and they ring you just to talk bollocks for half an hour to be friendly, when all you need to know is whether anything is available and how much it is! There are a couple of nicer female agents there (wow, I am sounding mega sexist now, sorry!) but a few of the guys are just irritating oiks. Foxtons were rubbish too. I was talked at for ages by someone who must have been about 15, then he took me to a flat I had already seen and which was more expensive than with the other agent advertising it! We like Haart and Bushells are ok.
  20. I would try asking them if they can give you their address and you can pop round to theirs another day when you are free!
  21. Does anyone find the pool FREEZING COLD as well? I last about 20 minutes...
  22. Sorry my comments have offended. I have a right to assert my opinion. And I know that my mugger probably doesn't live in Dulwich because he discarded half my handbag at the top of Greendale by Denmark Hill. I think as someone who knows what it's like to be viciously attacked rather than just joining a forum thread I have a right to say what I think without being shouted down. Anyway, let's hope we catch these people so that I am no longer scared to be out of my house at night.
  23. I live near Dulwich Park and was the mugging victim on Glengarry Road. As Roblay says, we live in an oasis surrounded by areas of deprivation, boredom and lack of drive to work in order to buy iphones rather than nick them! It's South London and a fact of life that we are surrounded by people who have been failed by society. I am more understanding about that than I am about the fact that someone frightened me and physically attacked me just for a poxy piece of plastic!
  24. YES ME ME!! It's my work keys! I was the person who got mugged on Glengarry Road. I'll send you a pm
  25. Thanks for your nice comments. I also should have said I wasn't being daft and talking on my phone, showing off my valuables or had an expensive handbag, or tottering around on high heels, drunk and vulnerable. It was calculated rather than opportunistic in that sense.
