  1. If I get home in time from the Proms, I might stroll 10 yards from my door to the Plough.
  2. I'm just flabbergasted everyday that people would actually want to drive in their car through central London.
  3. The public bus network right now is a vast improvement on what it was 10 years ago. I remember when you were lucky to get on a Night Bus in the West End, and even then it would be the equivalent of a journey through hell with drunks for about 2 hours. Now they're every 15 minutes and throughout the night. Adapting to the needs of an ever-expanding and more mobile populace places great strain on Transport Planning. People want to go further, quicker and more regularly than ever before to all sorts of places. And this with an ever-increasing number of cars on the road despite the Congestion Charge.

    Summer reads

I was reading it on a street at some point last year, and a ruffian barged into me, making me drop the book into an inconvenient large pile of dog poo.

Ah yes, quality book - although annoyingly I dropped my copy in a pile of poo last year. I'm reading The Magic Mountain by Thomas Mann at the mo.

    Great bookshop

    Bellenden Road? *runs off giggling*
  7. Since purchasing my bike I've now cut my journey time from Victoria to the Plough in half. So up yours, 5 Alive, 185!

    The Plough Pub

I was in there too last night drinking Harveys. There was a small coterie of chavscum hanging about outside when I left at 9.
  9. The thing about Ken is that the Evening Standard absolutely hates him, which only helps him because that particular newspaper is abhorrent.

Aye, I agree. I live but a 10 second crawl away, and before I'd usually pass the assortment of sphincter-eyed denizens by the window with the thought of "there's no way I'd go in there" but now...there's Schneider-Weisse to entice me in.
  12. Aarrgh I'm in Manchester that date. Bummeration.
  13. I find the whole "it's so middle-class" moaning so utterly tedious. So what?
  14. I always find it amusing when people say "have you seen the state of the tubes etc?". I'm not sure how someone like Ken Livingstone can be expected to drastically overhaul an antiquated Transport network with the sort of results where the tube is empty on a Monday morning. It's a nightmare job that will take 20 - 30 years to complete, if at all. Livingstone has overseen the transformation of London into a world city of some repute. The place is absolutely rammed from morning to night every day of the year. Sure, it's not all his work, but he's presided over it and has imposed his personality on matters, and that's what all great politicians do. I found the fact that he travels by public transport every day utterly endearing. To me, Boris is not a Londoner, not like Livingstone, and that is what counts against him. Livingstone's whiny estaurine accent immediately identifies him, and for all Johnson's foibles and endearing eccentricities, he isn't. The fact that he's still very much of the public school brigade will count against him in the long run amongst the chattering classes. The Tories should have got Portillo.
  15. I'd be up for joining a team of inepts and tickling batsmen with some slow left-armers.
  16. Has anyone ever been in there? Has anyone ever seen anyone in there?
  17. I used to be a big jet fan, but am totally uninterested in them now. I only like WW2 aircraft.

    The Plough Pub

Had lunch in the Plough on Sunday. I must say I thought the food was pretty average at best - and what was worse was the strange writing on the board in the garden saying "Order at DA BAR" or "MENU DE GARDEN". A strange mixture of trying to appeal to "youngsters" or something? However, moans aside, I must admit that their beer selection is truly excellent.
  19. My brother was warden of Sydenham Hill Woods from 1991 to 1995. I used to help out with coppicing and general forestry matters on Sundays from time to time. It is a lovely bit of woodland, a part of the old Great North Wood.
  20. If you show any Jacques Tati films, I'll be there like a shot. His films are best seen on a lazy summer's evening.
  21. Historical names are good for Cats. Btw Hindenburg came from Lewisham. They do look similar though!

The change in clientele was pretty noticeable when I went. Nice bar staff too, if a bit slow.

    The Plough Pub

I went on Friday for a few drinks. Horrific prices, but otherwise can't complain, especially outside.
  24. I've had a kitten for a fortnight now. Hindenburg is proving to be quite the charmer - whilst at the same time raising merry hell. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1341/652610452_addde5ff40.jpg
