    Bin woes

JRK This thread is close to my heart This must be a goo 6-8 years ago now, but within days of them being delivered I complained to the council about the colour of the Blue Bins. Waste and recycling is is a huge and growing sector. I totally understand the need for the 3 types of bins and the logistics of waste collection.... but the colour? The blue is disgusting! Why not black, or dark blue or any number of colours? That bright, light blue is such an eyesore.
  2. Disaster! There is an article on BBC website about it my 78 bus from Peckham Rye to Tower Hill at 8am took 1hr 15min this morning It doesn't even go through E&C, just got held up on the Old Kent Road Same journey was taking between 25-40 mins last week. Traffic backing up to New Cross and Camberwell in those directions Hopefully just teething problems for the new design
  3. Please can people voice their concerns for this development. Just 1 day to go..
  4. I have only been on the new Routemaster a couple of time so far, despite using the 12 fairly regularly. None of those times could have been warm day as I didn't notice..... Is this true, does the air conditioning not work very well on them? or could it be an individual fault on a particular bus? I notice there are no opening windows, so if they really do get hot it is a design disaster! Perhaps it is down to the driver to control? I remember years ago rather angrily pointing out to the train driver as we arrived at LB that it was June and no need to have the heating pumping out in the carriages! One thing I did notice was the poor visibility on the top deck. One of the few joys of getting the bus is the view. Without getting the tape measure out, the top deck windows must be 30% smaller...probably half the size at the front!
  5. In this case perhaps yes, end of story. As I originally said "Obviously I do not know the reason for this person leaving their vehicle in the instance, and admit it may just be that they haven?t had a chance to move/fix it." If they haven't had a chance to move it, then fine. It's been there over 4 weeks, not the end of the world, but a fair amount of time to never be able to park outside your own home, especially if it is badly parked ( don't get me started on that!) If it is still there in 2 months time then that is when I begin to disagree with the "it's taxed/insured, therefore I park/store/abandon it where I damn well like" point of view.
  6. BlahBlah I didn't say I wanted a guaranteed space outside my house at all, read my post again! The point I was making was I think abandoning a vehicle outside someone's house is inconsiderate. I know they can 'damn well' park it there (sounds almost spiteful!) and how could I possibly object to someone parking outside my or anyone's house... But if it is going to sit there for months, is it unreasonable suggest parking somewhere else, on one of the many sections of road not right outside a house.
  7. Obviously I do not know the reason for this person leaving their vehicle in the instance, and admit it may just be that they haven?t had a chance to move/fix it. However I do not agree with the "Its taxed and insured therefore it's ok to leave it there" view.... there are many, many things in life that are perfectly legal, and that we are entitled to do, but don?t because it is inconsiderate. The 4 weeks can easily turn into 6 months and then the tax runs out... all of a sudden the "every right to leave it there" argument is void and you have to question why couldn?t they not have initially left it somewhere which didn?t inconvenience others As someone that lives on a street that has to endure the consequences of the 3 motor traders that operate very locally I can confirm that an abandoned vehicle can cause much grief. I have had a car parked outside my house for over 6 months once. There are currently 3 vehicles on the street which have been 'parked' for a minimum 6 months each... flat tyres, vandalised, litter... for one the tax has now run out and it is registered as SORN but still 'parked on the street.. yet to be moved snce reporting to Southwark and DVLA Busy is fine, I don?t mind a busy street, naive to expect otherwise in London and I don?t expect a space outside my house?. but it would be nice to have a chance sometimes! An abandoned vehicle removes that chance. I have every sympathy with the OP.
  8. Please don't get confused with the (now granted) application for the land behind 16-20 Hindmans. This is about 14/AP/2629 - behind 21 Hindmans. This is not a concreted area, they have cut their garden in half and cleared the trees and shrubs away. The application refers to the 'White' House, accessed by pedestrian passageway from Tyrrell (I am sure the same house to which EDmummy refers) It says it should be respected - the plans hardly do that Incredibly it also says that 'this house acts as further precedent of how houses built beyond the first line of road facing properties can work successfully'... The 'white' house is older than all houses on Tyrrell Road!! This space cannot be compared to the Grand Designs houses built in Landells, or the other on Hindmans referred to earlier, which are in a backspace previously used but no longer. Look at the plans, this is being built right to the boundary of 3 sides of the garden The plans also show it is 'low profile', what are the chances that if it is approved it will end being higher than proposed??
