'A frequently asked question concerns the amount of UK legislation arising from EC legislation. It is impossible to answer this question accurately for a number of reasons. UK laws implemented as a result of EC legislation might have been brought into UK law anyway and existing UK laws might adequately implement all or parts of an EC law.' Source: Parliament factsheet

Something to do with MS having a dodgy arm in real life, I believe. Top geezer.

I think you can still get the Goblin ones up north. Also Holland's puds from the freezer section to steam at home, mmm I *love* that flabby grey suet pastry!

I don't think anyone is advocating 'dormitories', but it wouldn't be much of a hardship for an MP to spend a few nights each week in a serviced apartment or similar, would it? Assuming it was theirs for most of the year and they could keep stuff there and personalise it etc. Of course MPs should be allowed to claim reasonable expenses, but attempting to claim ?8865 for a Bang & Olufsen television is really taking the p**s.
  17. I propose the creation of government-owned 'MP hotels' in central London. Non-London MPs each get a small suite of their own which is comfortable but nothing fancy. If that's not good enough they can pay for something better out of their own money. During the summer recess the rooms could be rented out to earn a bit of money for the public purse.
  18. Not murder mysteries, but Richard Russo is brilliant if you like tales of small-town life and the tangled webs woven therein. 'Bridge of Sighs' and 'Empire Falls' are especially good. For sheer entertainment you have to go a long way to beat Dick Francis, especially the older ones. 'Twice Shy' is great, it was written in the early 1980s and features computer programmes on tape - those were the days, eh?

  22. I hope it's all of them - would be very glad to see the back of the ones with yellow handrails which were horribly uncomfortable upstairs.
