On the positive side, no libraries have been closed and there has been investment in new shiny whizzy libraries (John Harvard and Canada Water). There are also plans for a new library at Grove Vale. Evening & Sunday opening hours at the larger libraries have also been maintained. However if you don't live near one of the new shiny libraries I can see why you might feel short-changed. Agree with you about Dulwich Library. Lovely on the outside, dismal and damp-smelling on the inside. Unwelcoming enquiry desk with no signage. Half of the fiction selection is always on trolleys awaiting shelving. Ebooks will come, I'm sure. It's just a question of when...

I've used Forest Hill Cars a couple of times for airport trips. Would recommend them. Airport transfers On the return trip when time isn't an issue I would get the DLR to Lewisham and then the bus back to ED.

If Iceland has already decided to leave ED, surely only another chain would want or be able to afford a site of that size. M&S could be the lesser of several evils.

Just had this message from London Buses: "I am writing to let you know that from 0800 on Sunday 20 May until the evening of Friday 1 June, Bellenden Road will be closed due to further water mains replacement works being carried out on behalf of Thames Water. Route P13 will be diverted in both directions via East Dulwich Road, Peckham Rye and Rye Lane and will be unable to serve Pytchley Road, Avondale Rise, Bellenden Road, Chadwick Road and Blenheim Grove. The route will continue to serve East Dulwich Station and East Dulwich Sainsbury?s. Buses will serve all stops on diversion if requested to do so."

Freemasons' Hall, the Bank of England and Lloyd's are amongst my favourites. You don't have to pre-book for any of these. If you want to avoid the crowds, have a mooch around some of the City of London churches. There's a fab Henry Moore altar at St Stephen Walbrook.

The survey is now available here. The link from the main consultations page doesn't work. I'm feeling generous so I will describe the survey as 'rudimentary'...

It's more accurate to say that the 50p charge is for reservations on items stocked by Southwark libraries. The item you want could be supplied by any Southwark branch but that's not strictly an inter-library loan. It's certainly cheaper than City of London libraries which charge ?1 for reservations.
