Noisy children playing outside at 6am!
Ghlpc replied to craigyboy71's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
If children can't play out and make noise in the mornings from 6am while adults are sleeping, then Adults can't have garden parties and make noise after 8pm when children are in bed. Fair? -

You can never have too many socks... No seriously I do think the site is a bit small for a Pizza Express, if indeed these rumours are true, but they must have done their research on the place and think it a viable option. I think it's good to have competition between similar food type restaurants...it's keeps them on their toes and maintains standards. I like Pizza Express. You know what your getting, you can get some great discount vouchers almost all the time which makes it an affordable place to eat, especially for the family. Anyway a few of the business you mentioned above did start off as independents once upon a time...

Sorry, are we saying that Lorship Lane is too good for a Pizza Express?

Yes, I was referring to reserving a space purely for parking their own car. If bins had a polite note in reference to a skip or big delivery for example, I think thats acceptable . It does frustrate me, however I wouldn't go moving bins for the sake of proving a point, but if I've been round the block 2-3 times and still cant find a space, I will move bins if needed. -
Reserving car space with wheelie bins

I think anyone who feels it is their right to reserve a space outside their house with bins, should also accept it is my right to move those bins and park there. Simple. -
I remember the incident with PC Hammond. I lived on Frogley as was naively excited by the amount of Police and dogs searching our Road.Of course I was only a kid and didn't realise the seriousness of the injury. I'm sure he was the husband of our Head Teacher at Grove Vale at the time.

yes Charles notice....i also think the OP new exactly what sort of discussion would arise from the wording of their title....lets not be naive about this...!

Is The Great Exhibition getting louder or what?
Ghlpc replied to Beej's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Those who have been around long enough might remember a parade of shops opposite the pub, So it hasn't always been a completely residential area. However I do sympathise though. I would think a nicely worded and polite email to the pub would be a good start. -
I'm not a builder, so excuse if ive got this wrong, but can't you perhaps leave a column against the wall for the rsj to sit on, instead of it going into the party wall? So you take out most of the wall but leave a section at the party wall end, whatever size building regs deems wide enough to be able to take the weight of the beam..?

New restaurant - Johnnies Kitchen (cafe on LL)
Ghlpc replied to JohnniesKitchen's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I visit a lot, can't recall it being too loud or intrusive tbh. Think it's ok to have in the background, especially if you are eating alone. For value for money I think this cafe is great, food is good and portions are very generous. Good luck with the evening openings! -
In my borough, Lewisham, the council actively sent an inspector to ensure the drive successfully had adequate drainage. Indeed they send you some guidlines on how you or your builder can conform to this. Only then would they sign off and allow the kerb to be dropped. The council then insist that they use their own contractors for this, and just give you an approx date and a fixed price. I always find it strange that there are so many housholds who obviously don't bother to apply for the kerb to be dropped - surely the council are missing an income stream here by ignoring? It is frustrating, when you've done things the right way, obayed the rules and spent the money, that others cut corners and expect the same rights for off street parking! Am I right in saying however that it is not against the law to park in front of a driveway as long as you are not blocking a vehicle in?? I'm sure I have read this somewhere....

I for one welcome the ruling. 30mph was far to quick to catch a glimpse of all those lovely LL yummie mummies 😉

I'm in Sydenham now, but lived in East Dulwich for 25 years and still have family in the area. So I still activity engage in this Forum, mainly for news about the area and great topics of discussion. Not the silly gossiping or moaning though! Sydenham forum is obviously more relevant to me, otta is right it's not on the same scale of EDF but very active. There is a great campaign at the moment to restore one of our local pubs, and the forum is providing a great platform for this. I would imagine I'm not the only person to cross forums locally.

hpsaucy I agree, but I have come accross many examples where parking on the kerb is permitted on certain roads, yet you could just about squeeze a buggy through between the car and the pavement, let alone a wheelchair! I'ts a shame with all the money councils make from PCN's, they cant find the resources every now and again to review some of the ridiculous outdated parking restrictions they have in place.
-
Its a shame as you were only trying to be helpful. There is a road in Sydenham where I had the same problem. The road was so narrow that if two cars parked opposite each other then traffic would struggle to squeeze past, certainly larger vehicles wouldn't stand a chance. So I done as you did, wheels on pavement, and got done. The pavement in fact was very wide on both sides. I appealed but to no avail. However a Freedom of Information request revealed that 17 others had the same fine, for the same offence, on the same road in the space of 10 months!! So the council weren't exactly tackling the problem, just collecting the money. Funny thing, someone eventually saw the light and now the road allows parking on the footpath. Too late for me and 17 others now though....!

Southwark Councils Youth Service, http://www.whtvr.org.uk Maybe try and contact to see if any Youth Workers can pop down and engage with the group, offer them information about suitable activities and things to do geared for their age range. Also, Dog Kennel Hill Adventure Playground very close by, http://www.dkhap.org.uk
