I don't think its always shingles Molly. My husband got a few spots every time another of my children got it. Really weird but definitely chicken pox each time.

You said that you will be travelling with lots of luggage. Is it possible to send most of it on ahead so that you only travel with stuff for you and baby's travelling needs?
-
Pickle Many people have natural immunity to chicken pox and so your daughter may be one of those lucky ones. All of mine have had it really mildly with middle son only having 2 spots. Hopefully that is enough to keep it at bay in future years. Trinity

Lots of people worry about the laundry of the nappies but really it is very little bother to wash them yourself. The Nappy Lady has lots of info on how to make it all as easy as possible eg using liners and the mesh bag for nappies in the nappy bin so don't let the thought of the washing put you off.

whats a breastfeeding counsellor and where do we get one?
trinity replied to iaineasy's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I found expressing really difficult with my first born and rarely produced much milk. I think an ounze or so was pretty much all I ever got. In the end I stopped trying as it was too tiring and stressful. I'm not saying that this will be the case with Anna but, in the first few weeks particularly, some people do find it difficult to express. Pickles advice is good though, mornings are a better time. The pumping whilst feeding takes some co-ordination and I never quite managed that either! -
If I was being too quiet (!) as a child I was always accued of being a creeping Jesus. That's quite unpleasant now I think about it.

Breakfast for an independent 1 year old?
trinity replied to crystal7's topic in The Family Room Discussion
boiled egg emptied out of its shell pancakes cut up sauasages cheese on toast fingers It's good that she is learning to feed herself so I would still encourage her to eat her weetabix with a spoon but maybe give her something else at the same time. -
They had mothers and sisters I think.

whats a breastfeeding counsellor and where do we get one?

anna_r Wrote: > As a slight aside, can anyone tell me whether I > can expect the same level of difficulty and pain > in future? My experience with breastfeeding has been that number 1 baby was awful - painful and difficult. With subsequent babies it was completely different - no pain and very straightforward. I think most people find it less painful and easier 2nd time round. I didn't get the pains that Ryedalema suffered from which sound quite unpleasant. -

Thanks for this James - the Karavan route you suggested sounds an excellent idea as its a central location and presumably good for them to encourage people through their door. I can't believe that many bulbs are taken to Manor Place which means that they are going into peoples ordinary rubbish bin. That is a concern I may try to stay with my old fashioned light bulbs as this low energy one lasted for a year - about the same length of time as the old ones. -

Mr Barber, The first of my energy saving light bulbs 'blew' this week. Are there any plans to extend the recycling of these bulbs? At the moment I think you have to take them to Manor Place which is a bit of a silly journey to recycle one lightbulb. Thanks Trinity -
boring topic - self employed tax return - info needed??

Sounds as if she is suggesting the excel spreadsheet to ensure that you have reconciled your closing bank balance to your income and expenditure. This would be to make sure that all income and expenses were included in your accounts. This would pick up any items going through the bank account not included in your invoice and payments schedules eg bank charges and any items in your schedules that have not yet hit your bank account eg cheques not yet cashed. -
I have read Gina's book and found it extremely irritating. There seems to be a general consensus on this thread(which I agree with) that routine is good for babies and new mothers. The problem I found with Gina's book was that although many of the ideas around routine were sound eg making time for mothers to eat, trying to make sure baby did not get overtired, the regimented schedules were too dictorial and lacking in flexibility for my tastes. In addition I didn't think it addressed the individual needs of babies. The clearest example of this was my last baby who was a terrible sleeper from a tiny age. The solution for her sleeping problems was not routine, not blackout blinds, not swaddling but a rocking motion. Thats not a solution that Gina advocates. There will be other babies who require parental contact to help them sleep - again not a solution that Gina favours. Overall I think there are positive and helpful points in her book and her methods will work for some babies and some families but not for others.

Not sure it is a duplicated thread though. I think Puzzled is asking about a different set of roadworks.

Weather issues in East Dulwich - Schools, Transport...

My husband is at Peckham Rye - 1 train stopped in last 45 mins but too full to get on. 3 trains also crawled past half empty but didn't stop. Doesn't sound good. -
Another tip is don't bath every day. My lot are down to 2 baths a week (sun and weds) and they still look presentable.

Doctors around Upland Road/Lordship Lane
trinity replied to clairelouise's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I am with Forest Hill Road surgery and have the same feeling as Sian. Doctors there have been fine but I don't have a sense of continuity of care. On the subject of midwives Forest Hill Road have the Oakwood midwives who are also fantastic and supportive of home births. -

Alleyns (co-ed) Dulwich College Prep school - (an entirely separate school from Dulwich College. Dulwich college have their own prep department) Oakfield (co-ed but not sure about playing fields Rosemead (co-ed but not sure about playing fields) Further afield St Dunstans in Catford (also co-ed) -
All mine (including the first ) were 4 or 5 days early so you may be in luck and have yours arrive when expected. By the time number 4 was born I was able to predict exactly when she would turn up.

Hi Lisa - I had a grunty baby. It happened all the time and then stopped at about 3 months. No idea what caused it or why it stopped. I did ask the gp at the 6 week check up but they had no idea either. I kept him in bed with me so didn't have sleeping problems so can't help you with that either. I just wanted to let you know that it can be perfectly normal and didn't seem to be wind associated for us.

The list of winners of VC who came from the British empire is noted at this website http://www.wewerethere.defencedynamics.mod.uk/wewerethere_old/vcwin.html The number of Indian winners in the first and 2nd world war is extraordinary.

Wind and hiccups in newborns - help please!
trinity replied to Ko's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Congratulations Ko None of mine were very windy but I did notice my mother-in-law's very effective winding technique which was a quite firm circular motion on the baby's back whilst baby was against her shoulder - not gentle little pats as I had been doing. I also thought you might want to make sure your lo isn't taking in too much air when bottle feeding particularly at the end of the bottle but I'm sure you've checked that. Hope the wind isn't causing little ko too much distress. Hugs to you both. -
Sounds to me like she's eating quite a variety of stuff! I never prepared separate food for my lot just gave them anything chopped up or squishy from whatever I was eating. Most did go on the floor or was rejected but I don't think that was a problem. Some things my lot liked at that stage were fish fingers, peas, carrots, every type of berry, mozarella, toast, broccoli. The vegetables I cooked until a bit squishy but not pureed. My lot didn't want to be fed with spoons so I just gave them a plate of food and let them tuck in.
