Harris Academy (new boys school for East Dulwich)
trinity replied to macroban's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Not a problem except this is meant to be a sports academy. It seems a bit of a con for both children and parents to make out that this will provide incredible sporting facilities when it does no such thing. -
Thanks for the links *Bob* - I managed to find the lovely Johnny Logan singing his little heart out. I thought it was law that Johnny had to have a hand in all Ireland's Eurovision entries. Is he working the turkey?::o

Fined ?75 for dropping a cigar butt - fair?
trinity replied to seanmlow's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Sean - you don't have to pay any attention to my suggestion. After all there are no rules to say you must. There are however rules against dropping litter.... Gerry - I didn't say I was perfect. But I will ask people who know me and see what they think. Perhaps I have become so without noticing. -

You will get no sympathy from me Sean - you dropped litter and you were fined. What surprises me is the fact you are publicising your dirty habits on EDF. Can I suggest a bit more shame and a lot less indignation? -
I know the chap too. I have seen a trail of the stuff down Forest Hill Road that he (and his dog) were reponsible for. Perhaps we should all have a word with him.

East Dulwich parking survey just hit.

I think CPZ is a poor idea but I do not live in the proposed area so am not directly affected. I am however directly affected by the closing of the LIVESEY MUSEUM. What do you think? There is another thread awaiting your response! -
I would definitely :))

The Livesey Museum faces closure
trinity replied to mightyroar's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I went to the Livesey yesterday with 4 kids aged 2 to 9 years. We spent a fantastic hour and a half in the exhibition which entertained all the children irrespective of their age. Such imagination and care had gone into the design of the exhibits. Our favourite was the treasure island with a quicksand beach. Whilst we were there a school group arrived from (I think) Rye Oak primary school. The children were fascinated by the exhibits & the museum really connected with them. They were also very well behaved so well done to the children, teachers and museum staff. The Livesey gets 2 school visits a day during term time which suggests it is reaching a lot of children for whom museum visits are a rare treat. This is a unique museum that provides incredible value for money in an area of London with very little to offer children to stimulate their minds. I am very sad that the council is too shortsighted to see this. -
How about Madrid? You can Eurostar to Paris and then a sleeper train to Madrid. We did it a few years back and it was a great journey and a great destination.

Debate on Prostitution at 11pm Tues 5th Feb on ITV1

What a horrible situation to be in Maximay. Please continue to post - we all have days when we are grumpy as anything and probably for reasons that are really trivial compared to yours. Keep posting - you may find it helps. -
Debate on Prostitution at 11pm Tues 5th Feb on ITV1

I think the word choice is misleading in the context of this discussion. Women may be seen to choose to sell their bodies but almost always in an environment of lack of other skills or opportunities. If the choice is between not feeding their children or selling their bodies is that a choice? Similarly not feeding your drug habit or selling your body. These are choices made by people with no alternatives. The example cited by Dom about the financial advisor is, I think, rare - the norm is much more depressing. -
Kalamitykel - Most likely she would have had hours of agony in a hospital due to complications so not really a reason to put you off homebirths.

Didn't say anything of the sort. You asked a question about volumes of children coming out of local schools which I (kindly) answered for you.

Jags and Alleyns together have 4 exits discharging onto 4 different streets. Even then it is a terrible bun fight requiring 2 lollipop people to get the kids safely across the roads. I have witnessed a couple of very close misses so it's not a situation I would wish on another school.

The Temple Open Weekend - 19 & 20 Jan 08
trinity replied to Michael Palaeologus's topic in The Lounge
Hi SteveT - that did seem like a rant to me. Of course professions require expert and distinct vocab - I can give you some more examples - doctors, computer programmers, musicians, engineers. Do you despise them all because they use precise terms for their work? The law is complex because life & commerce produce complex problems and the law seeks to provide solutions. I do agree with you though that the Temple is a great place to visit. -
I think BN is right about getting to the Livesey Museum. The no 63 hits the Old Kent road a long way away from the museum and as its a children's museum the only reason for going there is if you have some little ones in tow. It is too far to walk from where the 63 would drop you off.
-
I would give a special mention to 1. No 63 bus - reliable, frequent, goes where I need to go and drops me off close to my house. 2. Cafe on the Rye - perfect 3. The lollypop man on East Dulwich Grove who helps my daughter get to school every day.
-
I have seen a very similar cat on Therapia Road - I assumed he was young as he is small but very friendly. Also no collar. We are just up the road from Ryedale so may be the same one that seanmlow saw although he would have to have crossed a very busy road. He looks in good condition so this cat has been eating enough. Definitely worth a look.

Advice given to me for unwell toddler with the same symptoms was - bananas, boiled rice, no dairy, fluids. Be very strict and it will clear in 48 hours - just in time for Christmas. By the way, the advice worked for us.

Animal abuse on Peckham Rye! (dogs tied up outside cafe) Lounged
trinity replied to James's topic in The Lounge
Its not a theory - its my opinion. If dogs can be controlled all the time then there is no problem. Guide dogs I don't have a problem with - they are well trained and controlled and are with their owners inside for a purpose. Perhaps your dog is fine but perhaps the next dog is smelly. Perhaps the next is wet and decides to have a good shake inside. Perhaps the next decides it likes the look of my childs meal. Perhaps it would be best to leave dogs outside for short time while the humans have a cuppa. -

I don't like dogs in restaurants - I don't think its the right place for them as it is unhygenic. My dog isn't allowed near our dining table at home whilst we are eating - its not a member of the family. It is our dearly loved pet but an animal none the less. Outside whilst people are eating is absolutly fine(unless snowing or bitterly cold). -

Hi James I agree it's not good if dogs are cold & wet when outside but surely you don't expect dogs to be allowed in a cafe. Also Therapist - sounds like you dog was absolutely fine and perfectly ok outside - not in distress at all. -
I would happily walk that route at night - main road which is fairly busy. The train station can be somewhat deserted though. You are on the 63 bus route to Elephant & castle/blackfriars/kings cross which is a great bus route and still busy at night so either option should be fine.

Marmora Road to Honor Oak station is 12 mins brisk walk. I find it a perfect start to the day - gets the blood pumping!

Just popped into this shop for the first time today and the clothes they are selling are fantastic (althought expensive). Also very attentive and helpful sales assistants and so I had a very pleasant shopping experience.
