Rye Lane reopening to buses, but permanent closure still looms
ctovey replied to IainJ's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Richard Tudor - yes, I understand that its not running its original route. About 6 months after the route changed, this was showing on the bus apps ie. via Harris Academy, but this changed back again about 3 weeks ago, leading me to believe that the route was changing via Rye Lane again, but as yet it hasn't. -
Rye Lane reopening to buses, but permanent closure still looms
ctovey replied to IainJ's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
What date is Rye Lane reopening to buses? Bus apps have been showing the P13 running along its original route via Rye Lane, for several weeks now, resulting in the bus 'disappearing' between Peckham bus station and Avondale Rise. -
Accessing GP appointments - Link for feedback
ctovey replied to Cora's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Our practice - Camberwell Green - you have to phone between 8-10am. The receptionist will ask why you are calling and will then book a call back from a GP/nurse, who will again ask why you are calling and if they deem it necessary will book a face to face appointment with a GP/nurse. If they don't deem it necessary to see you (which they usually don't), they will deal with you over the phone. If you have a visual ailment, they will ask you to send a photo and diagnose from that. Since the first lockdown, when they locked their doors to walk in visitors and didn't open them until a couple of months ago, I have not once been offered a face to face consult. I have been with the same practice for over 50 years and have seen it deteriorate from a family doctors to a poor excuse for a GP practice and am seriously considering moving to another practice, but on reading other peoples' experiences, there don't seem to be any better practices in the area. -
Just a heads up to ignore the bus apps that show that the P13 has reverted back to its original route through Peckham. It most certainly hasn't, even though some of the bus stops - in Hanover Park and Blenheim Grove have been uncovered.

This is good. I have noticed when travelling to Guy's hospital daily with my husband that the trains are getting more crowded. This is usually between 7.30am - 9am. Also, there are many passengers who still feel 'entitled' to use the adjacent seat for their bags, which leads to more people standing around the doors when seats are actually available. I have had to ask almost daily for someone to move their bag so that I can sit down. This is usually met with a 'look' before the bag is grudgingly moved. I would add though, that most passengers are wearing masks on the trains, whereas on buses, quite a few passengers don't. Just an observation as I don't know the personal circumstances of fellow passengers.

Recommendations for a nursery that offers half days?
ctovey replied to Bertdul's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Have you tried Dulwich Village Pre-school? They used to do half days when my grandaughter went there, but was a few years ago. A lovely nursery. https://www.dulwichvillagepreschool.co.uk/ -
Kings College Hospital 'walk in' vaccination centre
ctovey replied to ctovey's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Kings is still being advertised on line as a walk in. Grandson went to Tessa Jowell centre this morning and got it done no problem -
That might possibly be acceptable if they kept one train from each route, but they have cancelled an entire route. OK if you're only travelling from, say East Dulwich, you would still have 2 trains an hour. But if you're travelling from a station further out, you will have to find a completely new route into London.

According to the Southern Rail website, the new timetable is in place until further notice and will be reviewed weekly and there may be further changes. I have been getting the early trains (between 7am - 8am) for a couple of weeks, accompanying my husband for daily treatment at Guys. We have noticed the trains are getting busier and this new timetable will make them more so. but people are still a bit 'precious' about having someone sat next to them and are reserving the adjacent seat with their bags. As a couple of 70+ year olds and my husband suffering from cancer, if we need a seat we are more than happy to sit next to another passenger as we are both double vaxxed.

I would say have another go at your GP. Our GP, for all their faults, are very pro-active regarding possible skin cancers. My husband thought he had a persistent patch of eczema behind his ear and showed it to our GP, who referred him to the 2 week wait dermatology clinic at Kings. Turned out to be a Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC), which was removed within a few weeks. Since then, if my husband has any concerns about further patches, he askes the GP to refer him. So far, he has had 3 BCCs removed and is awaiting a further procedure.

Satellite Tv - Digital Aerial - WiFi - Engineer
ctovey replied to Top signal service's topic in Reviews
Another recommendation for TSS. Installed a new aerial and satellite dish and removed an entire wheelie bin load of excess wiring accumulated over the years both inside and outside the house. Very polite, tidy and covid compliant. Wore shoe protectors and masks inside the house. Charged exactly as quoted, even though they had to use additional materials. Extremely reasonably priced considering the amount of work they did. Gave excellent advice and choices; no pressure selling. -
Does anyone know of any local charity shops doing home collections at the moment? Alex TLC (Ald Life) in Peckham were, but have stopped due to staff shortage.

Gail's - no masks on staff - how come?
ctovey replied to Dogkennelhillbilly's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I have also noticed several staff in M&S at ED station don't wear masks and have reported this on line to their Customer Service dept. I was advised that this would be taken up with the manager, but nothing has changed. In particular, the person who regularly serves on the bakery, wears her mask around her neck and the staff on the Help Desk are usually maskless. There also isn't a screen on the Help Desk, which I would have expected to be a standard fixture.
