  1. Hi all... am having a small pre book day breakdown, as youngest son wants his turn as Harry having now read the books. I've found the glasses, scarf and wand, but despite emptying out all the wardrobes, cupboards - I've even been under the beds - cannot find his cloak or tie. Does anyone have either of these that they wouldn't mind lending to us for Thursday. Would be eternally grateful!! Thank you!
  2. Of course! Thank you!
  3. Help mum's! I'm looking after a friends 2 year old tomorrow, and looks like rain... What can I do with him local that's indoors? Is the 1 o'clock club in Peckham rye still open? Any ideas gratefully received!
  4. Super thanks all - great suggestions, fingers crossed!
  5. Thanks for the suggestion!!! kristymac1 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The Dulwich Constitutional club hires out its bar > area to members - have been to a couple of 10(ish) > yr old discos there and they've been great - good > space for the kids...
  6. I have been double booked at the venue I had held on the 30th Jan so need an alternative...!! Ideally I'd find somewhere that would be happy to let us be there early evening. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks so much.
  7. Hi all, I'm absolutely delighted that this has come into place. Sadly my summer born boy missed out on this deferral option, but had we been able to, I *absolutely* would have kept him back a year. My son has just finished year 3, and this has been the first year that he has actually enjoyed school (for enjoyed, I mean he didn't cry everyday at having to go), and we put that down a lot to him having to go to full time school when he was too young and not ready. Although he is friends with all the kids in his class, no matter when their birthdays are, there *is* a huge difference between him and the older children/boys, just because they ARE older (& mostly bigger), they were better at speaking and expressing themselves when they started school so got *heard* more, they got more attention - and that has had a huge impact on how he sees himself and how he is treated, and even how he compares himself to his peers. He also started in reception in the year that only one point of entry in the September was introduced - a complete waste of time for him - he slept through most of it! I had to collect him from the reading corner where he was fast asleep pretty much everyday during that first term! ...and a note to add, that this does not seem to be the case for the younger girls in his class. School just seems to be much better suited to girls, well to those girls that are able to sit still and listen! MUCH trickier for little boys! Good luck everyone.
  8. I hope someone out there can help... we are taking our kids to the Secret Cinema star wars event on Wednesday, and ALL need to be in costume...! We're short of a girls outfit (9-10 year old) and adult costumes...Has anyone got a long robe (think Obi Wan Kenobi) or some such other cloak type thing that we could borrow tomorrow/Wednesday!?! Thanks so much!!
  9. Sorry Green Goose, I don't find it at all offensive. I think this is really innovative advertising - caught my attention, in a very positive way. Why are you on such a personal vendetta against this woman trying to start her own business - I think she should be applauded. She's employing staff and contributing to the local economy. I just wish I could afford a cleaner myself! Publically naming her is really inappropriate.
  10. Thanks Curmudgeon.
  11. Am thinking of getting my daughter (8) an eReader - specifically the Kobo mini - for Christmas. Has anyone else bought something like this and have any comments - pros/cons?? Thanks.
  12. Thank you all... A lot to think about here, especially the volunteering, but thanks for lead Fushia, that actually looks ideal.
  13. Sorry if not in the right section, but it's more a mum issue... I've been looking since September, without much success, for a part time or job share pa/admin role. I've applied for a few positions via the agency women like us, and I am registered with several other agencies, but I am starting to panic that I'll never get a job with the obvious 'mum shaped hole' in my cv... My background is in the entertainment industry, I have a great cv, and I've been networking like crazy with all my contacts, but I get a real feeling that all anyone sees is my kids and a hassle... If anyone has any advise it would be really appreciated. Thank you.
  14. My grand plans of spending the day outside in the park/adventure playground look like they won't happen with rain forecast....what can I do that's relatively cheap/free? I've got 4 kids (2 boys, 2 girls) to entertain, and I would rather they weren't trashing my house all day. Any thoughts most appreciated.
  15. How about installing a pedestrian version of this instead to get up the hill?? http://www.mentalfloss.com/blogs/archives/74865?utm_source=ffp&utm_medium=link&utm_campaign=ffp what a laugh!
  16. My daughter, now 5, also has this. It affected neither her feeding, we managed 13 months, nor her speech, but our dentist has been monitoring it, and had suggested to wait and see how, and if, it changes with her face and teeth growing. It does look significantly different now at 5, and as she has grown, and got all her teeth, her front teeth have closed slightly, and she seems to have more of a stretch to her lip. Not sure what will happen when she loses them though..... We're back to the dentist next month...
  17. I third Aoife. She's fab with the kids.
  18. Wow, thanks for lessons. The actual doctor has been pretty rubbish at addressing my daughters stomach problems, I was hoping to approach from another angle.... Dietician it is then, recommendations gratefully received still though.
  19. I'm taking my 4 year old to the doctor to get a referral to see a nutritionist. I wondered if anyone can recommend someone reasonably local, and also who would take an nhs referral. Many thanks.
  20. You are so not being silly. I felt exactly the same way when I was pregnant with number 2. I have an elder daughter and so wished for her to have a little sister - I am the little sister to the best big sister ever, and always imagined I would have 2 girls too. But we have a little boy now, and he is brilliant, from the moment he arrived, best thing ever.. and sooo different. But they absolutely adore each other and I can't imagine now having 2 girls - I wouldn't change it for the world. And when I watch them playing together I see how lucky they are to have each other, they really do compliment each other so well. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy - and please enjoy it!
  21. Hi there, I live just round the corner from you and have an almost 3 year old and a 4 year old. Also emigrated from Clapham... We're always up for new playmates - especially now the long summer holiday is approaching. PM me if you want to meet up, or some tips on the local area. Wednesday afternoons and Fridays are good for us. Hope you're enjoying some good views.
  22. Hi Jess, Sounds like a nightmare. You could try contacting the working families charity for advice... tel 0800 013 0313 or email [email protected] - they should be up to speed on the law relating this. Failing that, if you need to seek and pay for proper legal advice, your home insurer, if it provides legal cover in your policy, can support you. Good luck. KM.
  23. unless you have seriously bad taste in footwear I wouldn't bother... not one nice shoe in the whole shop. The store on Northcross road is MUCH nicer.
