  1. Agree it sounds intimidating but also agree with Mike he might have mental health issues and need help. So perhaps he cannnot rationalise the success or otherwise of his 'tactics'. For example the fact that he shouted at someone who did give him money as well as all those who didn't seems a bit odd, no? Sadly funding for mental health care is not what it should be.
  2. Upstairs at the Old Nuns Head, or upstairs at the East Dulwich Tavern.
  3. Thanks very much both of you.
  4. Thanks for this RC. Does this mean you're having the container for the sedum already built in? We have a ready made bike box and it's the roof top tray I'm trying to find. As I've seen a few around I thought it might be possible to buy them ready made but Internet search not turning anything up.
  5. hi - does anyone have one of these and if so where did you get it from? we are not very practical people so realistically i am looking to buy rather than make. thanks for any tips
  6. Thanks very much Etta and Dulwich13 for posting these links.
  7. See thread on South East forum about terrible impact of speed bumps and the hassle to remove them from top end of Ivydale Road/Cheltenham Road a few years ago (I tried to post a link but it seems EDF didn't like having a rival! - google South East forum speedbumps Cheltenham Road and you will easily find the thread). Renata was one of the Councillors who helped to get them removed and replaed with narower pinch points and alternating priority, which is what I would suggest you go for if you mae a CGS application. Southwark did tell me these speed bumps which span the road would no longer be installed. The roads round here just aren't strong enough to support the thuddung of traffic over speed bumps (mostly at >>>20mph), and unfortunately the council doesn't seem to think to strengthen the road when it does install speedbumps. It would be nice if they spent the money on enforcing the 20mph limit instead (speed cameras, fines, traffic police etc). I had inserted some other links but the EDF didn't like them either. If you search for 'damage caused to houses by speedbumps' you will find plenty eg Bromley Borough Roads Action Group. I looked up the Speedwatch link from one of the posts above. Unfortunately it operates only in Cambridgeshire, but I've contacted them to see if they can point me in the direction of any more local schemes. I'd be more than willing to participate in something like that.
  8. I PROMISE you you don't want speed bumps. I live next to one and as the traffic goes over it my house shakes right through to the back room, a complete nightmare in terms of noise, being shaken around and potential damage to my house. I know as well that the speedbumps at the top end of Ivydale Road, near Cheltenham Road, where the 343 (double decker) runs were removed not long after being installed for exactly this reason. Some other way of traffic calming needs to be found.
  9. Victoria Inn on Bellenden Road was reasonably priced and clean the last time I needed somewhere BUT it was a bit noisy on a Saturday night due to music in pub. Might be better if you can get top floor rooms and perhaps ok for one night. Friends of mine highly recommended the Church Street hotel in Camberwell but it is a bit more expensive. There's also a b&b in Crystal Palace called the Fox Hill. I haven't been there but it looks nice in its website and has good Internet reviews.
  10. In the block of flats I used to live in we had an oocasional estate agent's sign up despite NONE of the flats being for sale. Opportunistic so and so's.
  11. Very poor legroom for anyone over 4'6".
  12. I'm not convinced the 20mph zones are intended to make money. My (residential, narrow) road has had a 20mph limit for a number of years now but many idiots still speed up and down it far too quickly. The council seems disinclined to do anything at all to enforce the speed limit even though I and other residents have asked for speed cameras.
  13. I suggested back on page 2 that anyone unhappy with the service should register their complaint as suggested by James Barber and then leave and move to a different practice. Whilst James thought there wasn't much point as it would take hundreds of people doing this for it to register with dmc, I think that's like saying there's no point in using your vote as you are only one person, which I doubt he would advocate. And unlike voting in an election, by moving to a new practice I saw an immediate benefit. One year on I am clearly still a little scarred by my dmc experience- otherwise what would I be doing reading and replying to this thread? ;) But the difference is that I can now see a doctor when I need to. Quite a novelty.
  14. Also, there's a prospective adopters' group which has started meeting one evening a month. Contact details as above.
  15. Thanks museum mum, that's brilliant!
  16. And after you've complained for heaven's sake register somewhere else. If enough people jump ship that should get the message across loud and clear.
  17. Artists from the Nunhead art trail. Check the website. http://www.nunheadarttrail.co.uk/

  19. Not a pub but hey, small local theatres (with bars): the Blue Elephant in Camberwell, occasional theatre companies in residence at the Bussey building in Peckham (including some really fantastic'theatre local' by the Royal Court), the Southwark Playhouse near Elephant (brilliant) and the Ovalhouse.
  20. Train direct to Eynsford from Peckham in just over half an hour. Skip the busy roads completely!
  21. Thank you all very much! Lots of good ideas here, much appreciated.
  22. Hello. My husband is going to be a stay at home dad. Can anyone recommend a parent and toddler group in the Nunhead area whuch meets during the week and where he would not be the only dad? Thank you.
  23. Widespread overuse of the word surreal to describe what are merely slightly unusual events.
  24. I'm not sure there are rules but agree that if a sale has been agreed the person should stick to it. Failing that a better effort to let you know should have been made, especially as she had your phone number. I wouldn't necessarily have checked my email over that period either. I guess some people are just like that unfortunately. I've had experience in the past of trying to give things away and people not turning up when they've said and not letting me know. I know from messages on the boards that I am not alone in this.
