  1. Oxfam Herne Hill none too impressed when I turned up with several bags of books, ended up taking them to British Heart Foundation book and cd shop in Streatham instead. Suggest phoning ahead wherever you go so as not to waste a journey. I have donated books to King's in the past, I think via their PALS service, they said they would take them round wards on trolleys.
  2. Exactly. When I am driving along streets with cars parked either side and lots of people around, my focus is quite short, looking out for dangers in the immediate area rather than looking up at roadside signage etc. I would have been caught out by similar near Ivydale school had I not recently been leafleted about the change from them using physical barriers in school hours to using cameras- the new sign at the roadside was unobtrusive. If they are going to do this there ought to be road markings too.
  3. Perhaps you could write to them - on a postcard so they are less likely to discard without reading? And hope the post is delivered swiftly...
  4. Lots, and mostly just turn up on the day. Some change from term to term, others are consistent. Most are free, small charge for things like tennis and maybe also cycling at the velodrome.
  5. There's a new Travelodge in Peckham near the library. The Victoria Inn on Bellenden Road has rooms upstairs - but it can be noisy as they are above a pub. Friends of mine stayed in the Church Steet Hotel in Camberwell and really liked it, although I will caveat that that was several years ago.
  6. Thanks for taking this on Joe, so glad the forum will continue.
  7. Thank you both for the recommendations.
  8. Does anyone know of a trauma informed mainstream state secondary school which implements a behaviour policy which is not just warning-warning-warning-detention ad infinitum? Doesn't have to be Southwark, we are open to moving.
  9. Can anyone recommend a private psychiatrist for an in person ADHD assessment for a child? There are lots to be found on the internet but a personal recommendation would be helpful. Thank you!
  10. Normal cash ISAs should be available from age 16 eg terms for Yorkshire Building Society (YBS) Internet Saver ISA Plus Issue 10 say it is. Rate pretty low. Not sure why she isn't eligible for junior cash ISA,presume some reason other than age- rates for these are higher.
  11. I switched from gas to induction hob when I moved house - reluctant to begin with but now really like it. Our hob has induction rings at the front and non-induction at the back. Unless you regularly use >2 hobs at a time this could be a good compromise to get round the cons listed in other responses.
  12. I've heard good things about Herne Hill Harriers http://www.hernehillharriers.org/category/training/young-athletes/
  13. they are also at Ivydale School in Nunhead
  14. posting on here from Nunhead Salvation Army says they are taking donations of clothes as well as food. /forum/read.php?29,2175458
  15. > Where did toys r us go ? > > It's been been so long since I went to the okr went bust a few years ago.
  16. Sainsbury's briefly went to only allowing slots to be booked a week ahead, but last time I looked they'd opened up the following week too. I've not had any problems finding a weekly slot in the current lockdown/tier4.
  17. St.Ives, Norwich.
  18. Let them drive themselves!
  19. Covering the air vents with wire mesh helped a lot in our house.
  20. Saw this in Southwark Life - rent a tree and then it is collected and aken away to carry on growing after Christmas. https://www.londonchristmastreerental.com/ They are, however, already out of stock. But you can join waiting list, or mailing list for 2021 advance notice.
  21. There's one at the top of Telegraph Hill and the other near the big Sainsbury's at New Cross Gate. https://www.habsfed.org.uk/Our-Schools/
  22. What about North London? E.g. Winchmore Hill to old street, 4 direct trains per hour, takes under half an hour. Palmers Green / Alexandra palace are en route, the latter would only be 20 mins to old street. Schools have more outdoor space.
