  1. I too would like to recommend Steve, who came to do some clearing in my garden in preparation for Spring. He went out of his way to find a time which suited both of us, and did a very good job. Thanks, Steve
  2. I'm not sure if this is the right section. I've done "dry January" before, but I didn't complete it last year - I gave up a few days before the end. I'd really appreciate a buddy for mutual help in dealing with those days/nights going out with friends or family when most others are enjoying alcohol. I suppose it says something about both groups that I'm the only one doing it.....they're than I am at moderation!
  3. Another recommendation for Dan and Aria, they were very quick to respond, and went out of their way to sort out a leaking toilet cistern, which turned out to have broken valves and was also cracked. They are also efficient.
  4. Just been there, and it's really not good enough. The waitress didn't write down our order and instead of 2 escargots we got 2 soups and 1 snails. [They only charged for 1 snails, but we had to wait another 20 mins.] The fish soup tasted good but was just about warm, and not hot, and the thin slices of fried bread, set on the side with rouille and grated cheese, were stale. The Feuillete pastry was way over cooked. The Confit of Duck had a crispy, and in parts overbaked skin. Overall, it was also overcooked. The potato Dauphinois was a disgrace - flaccid and overbaked. t warm, and the thin slices of fried bread, set on the side with rouille and grated cheese, were stale and not crispy. I feel really sad that they're not getting it right, they must have put a lot of energy into setting it up. We won't be going back
  5. Do you know of anyone who would be interested in being a Trustee of a lively and well-run charity? The Inner City Centre (www.icclondon.org.uk) is a small and effective charity set up and run by over 50 qualified and experienced psychotherapists working across London to provide low-cost psychotherapy. It is a virtual organisation in that most of the day to day management is done online and by phone, with 5 part-time staff working from home. Our Council meets 6 times per year, and we would welcome with open arms two more external trustees to join the Council. The work would involve no more than 2 hours per month. We are seeking people with an interest in mental health, and above all, people with experience of financial management, who can provide oversight to help ensure i) that the organisation continues to fulfil its responsibilities towards its target beneficiaries, and ii) to meet the legal and regulatory requirements of a charity in the UK. Send me a reply for more information about the Inner City Centre, and a description of the Trustee position.
  6. The Ivy House, Nunhead, of course. It's cooperatively run, it's very child friendly, and it's an historic landmark worth preserving. The food was good last time I was at a party there, although that was about one year ago.
  7. Andy and Richard were here this morning to do some small jobs - repairing, fixing and renewing. They were prompt, very tidy and the work is very neat. I would definitely recommend them.
  8. Dear Lucy, I've PM'd you

    Advice please

It turns out there's a huge and spreading population of bed bugs in London. Does anyone know of a reliable pest control firm in South London?
  12. Hi, I've signed up to donate 48 copies of "All Quiet on the Western Front", and I know there are others in the area who are distributing "Toast" and other titles. Is anyone up for joining me to organise something? I have friends coming for dinner, and I had in mind a bar crawl about 9pm - The Bishop, Black Cherry, EDT, etc. by way of distribution. But it would probably be better to attempt a bigger splash. The Plough has a book club that meets on Wednesdays, and there's a Green and Blue book club, and I've sent them a message. I expect Chener Books and Dulwich Library are also the focus for book collection (if not distribution). All ideas welcome. Thanks, Tosca
  13. Just seen these posts. What the people behind the renovation of the Wishing Well are not saying publicly is the changes to the licensing hours that they have applied for. The licence application - http://licensing.southwarksites.com/LicPremisesAppliedDetails.asp?systemkey=831545 - includes the extension of opening hours to 1.30am on Saturday and Sunday mornings, and up to half past midnight during the week. Lordship Lane we are not, and don't want to be, and the problem for Bellenden area residents will be the drunken people on our streets in the wee small hours. We have until 30th March to object - go to Licensing Southwark and look for a download on how to lodge an objection.
  14. One Thousand Times NO. It seems that we have to deal with this once a year, and I assume the time will come when those of us who don't want it will have to get organised.
  15. I have 3 blinds to exchange - 140 cms long each, and I don't have a car. I would be glad of a lift. Happy to share petrol/look after kids/help alleviate the aggravation that is always involved in shopping at IKEA. I need to be back in ED by 3.30pm.
