  1. A couple of weeks back, wars broke out on a morning 185, between two pram-pushing parents. They were screaming, calling each other all kinds of names under the sun, most of it completely unsuitable in front of their children. At one point it looked like one was going to take a punch at the other. ("You say that again and I'll blah blah blah"). It was incredible. Everyone sighed with relief when one of them got off, having deliberately collided their pram into the other. Prams as weapons, huh? This is what I don't get about quite a few adults accompanied by children I see today. All that aggression, shouting, bad language, treating other adults with contempt. It does make me wonder how their children will turn out. I really don't think parents behaved like that back in the day. Or are my spectacles too rose tinted? I know this isn't just an ED thing, but with so many prams and kids around...

  5. The scariest thing I've come across on LL was two teenage girls with a large and ugly-looking (think fighting) dog on a Saturday morning. They were trawling the entire east side of LL, threatening people - in the usual 'disrepect' style. Having been attacked (and hospitalised) by dogs, this was no joke for me. This kind of thing got going here and elsewhere in the late 80s (there used to be a lot of it about on Peckham Rye, before the legislation), and hasn't gone away.
  6. It's strange, cos they're accepting returns until the 5th of May....so what happens to all those tickets?
  7. So do we. Got a travel set for a long flight recently...

If so much available walking space is covered in goods, by design, then it is not an accident. To then blame customers for what happens seems perverse. Most of the problems are down to goods stacked on the floor. Which is not an issue concerning any kind of investment in infrastructure or design. It appears to be a policy, and it's been getting worse, if anything. My staff of > 10 including my Manager Jay are a great bunch and > work extremely hard and truly are offended by your > comments, what bitter people you must be to > verbally attack someone in this way. The times I've been into the shop over the years, the staff have been either nice or not, but too much of the latter, and sometimes customers are ignored altogether (e.g. staff chatting for extensive periods to visiting friends). You know you > can always vote with your feet and we don't make > you come into the shop.. The only person I've mentioned specifically was nice (the girl from Spain) - I've refrained from identifying the others who were otherwise. why can't you be proud of > the fact the we have a thriving community and a > great local high street rather than spending you > time slagging it off; I've been proud of living in ED since 1986 - some time before your shop arrived. Many things contribute to a lively local community. And that includes *all* the local shops, the schools, the environment, the amenities, clubs, the people that live here, and this forum. People are, of course, free to criticise, and free to take their trade where they wish. Most small businesses take criticism on board - the criticism is often at least partly deserved, and can be useful in improving service. A business that doesn't listen to its customers will not last long. and for those of you that do > like our shop and mention this and I will give you > 10% off and a free loaf of bread.. excluding the > marked down table all at ?2.00.. xx I'm afraid you're not doing yourself any favours marketing-wise with this post.

  11. I'm vaguely Asperger's spectrum, so it's cycles, excessive vinyl, technology and all that :-S Tho' paranormal sounds fun (I used to live a few yards from the Interplanetary Society in Vauxhall, BTW).

  14. I'm having wi-fi 'issues' today, so apologies for repeated posts :'(
  15. I've been kicking around ED since the mid-80s, and live 3 mins walk away from this place, but have never thought to go there. It just looks grubby and run down. If they are making money, fine, but the impression it gives is of a business on its last legs (though it's looked that way for some time).
  16. Yup, the veg at that shop is fine for a general grocers. Badger the greasy spoon of bakeries. I so wish they had better stuff. Wish the Lloyds cash machine wasn't out of action half the time.
  17. DJ Food & DK: Now Listen, Again! http://www.ninjatune.net/ninja/release.php?id=1228 We saw them of Saturday - brilliant!
  18. DJ Food & DK - Now listen, again! (mixtape) We saw them at Po Na Na in Reading on Saturday. Brilliant! Louisiana
  19. If prices crash at any given time, there will always be a proportion of 'owners' who will be mortgaged to the hilt on the previous value (or worse - see recent 125% mortgages), so could not sell up as they would be significantly out of pocket. This might seize up the housing market. There would likely be far fewer properties on the market. It might be difficult to move. Many people are now borrowing crazy multiples, so with rates rising, things may get sticky.

I agree. For all kinds of journeys, it often suggests I go to Brixton first (and then sometimes some unknown-to-me coach/bus station), where the journey is much more straightforward without going there...and I find the 37 unreliable (have had to wait for over 1 hour) and it doesn't actually pass anywhere near me. I think this happened, for example, when I looked up ED-Southampton, or other south destinations. Some analysis seems to suggest that it's trying to stop me from going to L Bridge or to central London to catch a train, and it trying to encourage me to travel 'around' London. But 'cross' services tend to be poor.

  23. I suspect if you live on an exposed bit - high up on one of the hills - it may still be too early. My road seems to get the odd frost when other nearby ones do not. Louisiana
  24. Walworth Road roadworks is scheduled for 48 weeks (!!) from January 07, so that takes you to the end of the year. And at times there barely seems to be any work going on. Louisiana
  25. Ah shambles, I also recently purchased Pamuk's Istanbul book, but the others in the pile have been read first (books on Cuba, as we were going), so yet to start. Keef, Kevin is dark indeed, and puts a whole new perspective on parenting, for the non parent. Louisiana
