  1. Yes, on this bit of LL, the real sod-of-a-hill (short and nasty) is after you leave LL hill. I've never, ever, seen anyone cycle up it.
  2. We're going to be at the head of the Q when the gates open ;-)
  3. Ah, we're going alright! - just my partner's daughter that isn't. So yes, let's make an ED field. Any ideas for a flag?? And what you did: I did exactly the same, in the heat of the moment (didn't realise the first reg no/name entered would be assumed to be the card holder). I checked with ticket people, and there's no problem with that, and funds went though without problems. So don't worry, just celebrate.
  4. Brilliant! :)-D Does mean you will have to actually be on the coach (as that's where the tickets will be handed out), but small price to pay. I had to return one of our three yesterday, so hopefully that helped you get yours :)
  5. You've got tickets??!!
  6. You forget the pork scratchings B) As an ale drinker (when I'm not drinking wine), I think ED is not badly served for ale. We have some Youngs (e.g Clock House, the Dog?), we have Old Speckled Hen on tap at the CPT (very unusual), we have Harvey's over on the Bellenden side (not the best ale, but not bad), and we have several places on the main drag that serve a decent pint of London Pride or Abbott or whatever. There's even some Isle of Skye bottled beer in G&B! There are other parts of the universe that have none of this, and when you ask behind the bar, the say 'no demand' and continue to churn out lager froth. I remember when the Harvester was the Grove Tavern...
  7. Maybe they think it's a way of expressing themselves :-S In my yoof, I house/flat-shared, and the men were...fairly hopeless, despite prodding. I suspect they only 'make an effort' for wives and such.
  8. What ED needs is a music-based venue with some decks and sufficient dancing space (but preferably not a revolving dance floor). All or part of said place would be available to hire for private parties, enabling locals to hire for their fantastic birthday parties, thus saving their neighbours the anguish of booming parties. With so many people in ED in terraced houses and flats, this would be a tremendous amenity. Church halls and the like don't really fit the bill.
  9. Ah yes, "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times..."
  10. Jah Lush New Order? Monochrome Set? Art of Noise? etc etc not forgetting rave The 80s was brilliant!
  11. So many nominations...Can we have a vote?
  12. I just popped down to the bottom end of LL, and the whole West side pavement, for a fair stretch, seemed to emit a smell of pee. How strange. Don't think it's the wimmin, so...Something male and strange going down last night? Or just a sewers thing?
  13. Yes, decks, decks, I want somewhere with decks too :)
  14. Nisha is also very careful about giving the right change for notes, unlike some other shops in the vicinity. I have never, ever, had a change problem there, despite using it a lot. Can we give her a medal?
  15. Yes, Brooklyn is quite apt: across the river, tree-lined streets, open spaces, a few hills, period architecture with terraced houses, grubby/run-down but interesting corners, the odd estate/project mixed in, and a smattering of 'useless' boutiques in one or two trendy streets (though the so-called useless boutiques can yield a bit of good stuff, in both places, so I'm all in favour).

She does the same for me (especially when I'm buying coriander for guacamole). She gives away free chillies yet fears for the consequences :) She's always also interested in knowing about things you're looking for that they don't have, and discusses this with her husband. With the hours she works, it's amazing she can keep happy the way she does. I remember when she started out and her English wasn't so good and she was clearly a bit shy, but she's really come into her own.
  17. I vote for two at the Plough end: - the Sri Lankan lady in Val's. Yes, she fears for the constitution of Western stomachs consuming habanero chillies, but she's ace and a natural. - Plough DIY. All staff always friendly and exceedingly helpful.
  18. I think the problem with the Herne Tavern now at the weekend is that it's a children ghetto. In another establishment, you might get a few, but here there are dozens, seemingly as many as adults. Every group now makes up major space, what with all the prams. And he noise is...noisy.
  19. I too wish I knew, SeahMacGabhann. This part of LL has remained largely unaffected by developments further down the hill, and it seems to be getting worse rather than better. Would be lovely if someone brave struck out with something imaginative. With all the passing 'traffic' generated by the library, post office, bank, busy newsagent's etc., this could be something better than 'builders' corner'. Louisiana
  20. And the one labelled Dulwich Common is in Overhill Road, up at the south end of ED. Louisiana

  22. Ant, they are limited edition so-called 'bags for life'. Limited edition so half the world don't have them, hence the ruck: too many yummy mummy's not enough bags. Louisiana
  23. Oh yes, Beth, can I second that comment about trustees? Good trustees are like gold dust...and treasurers, well, can't be found for love not money. Also legal counsel for the board of trustees. Usually it's not a major time commitment. Can I also say you do get a lot of satisfaction from helping a charity or voluntary organisation to manage itself, develop and so on. And it's also a great learning experience. Louisiana
  24. Next thing you know, DM will be saying "I'm the Mum of Dulwich, that's what I do" bishop-stylee. Just don't go throwing toys out of other people's cars, DM :)
  25. JoeChuff In the Basque country, the men have their own cooking clubs. No need for you all to roam the streets...;-)
