  1. Europe - The Final Countdown http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ASisLT5XHtg We're leaving together but still it's farewell and maybe we'll come back, to earth, who can tell? I guess there is no one to blame we're leaving ground (leaving ground) will things ever be the same again? It's the final countdown. The final countdown. Oh, We're heading for Venus (Venus) and still we stand tall cause maybe they've seen us and welcome us all, yeah with so many light years to go and things to be found (to be found) I'm sure that we'll all miss her so It's the final countdown.
  2. Back in 1981, when we (ahem) 'opened up' what became the Bonnington Cafe, at 11 Vauxhall Grove, much of the food used in the cafe was liberated from the Nine Elms complex (you'd go collecting during the day to cook that night). In these circumstances, it's easier to trust food that's veggie. Many in the area did likewise: I remember one endless hot summer of peach smoothies made exclusively with Nine Elms liberated peaches, by someone in the Square.

  4. Amelie Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > This is obviously a 'girl thing'.:)) I'm a girl, and I think 2 k for a wedding dress is ludicrous. I think you could justify 1 k for a really good dress that you'd wear a lot (that's called an investment), but 2 k for something you wear once and then stuff in a cupboard? That's money down the pan. I speak as someone who on occasion spends a few hundred on a bag.
  5. Just got back to ED with three new - vinyl - albums. One was a birthday present, IQ6 Zang Tumb Tuum Sampled. I have it on tape from the olden days, but wanted the vinyl - it's never been issued on digital formats. Possibly one of the best label compilations ever. The other two were picked up in Oxfam for a few pee: Welcome to the Pleasuredome (ZTT IQ1!), and Penthouse & Pavement (which got a mention on Radio 4 today). As you can see, I have a thing about ZTT (but also about 4AD, Sarah, etc etc)
  6. What a fabulous pair of houses. So much more interesting, visually rewarding, than what usually goes up in the name of development. I liked the way Bill ably dodged the question of price :)

  8. Sounds like it might be my postie (and he hasn't been around today). Not the most cheerful guy, but what a thing to happen...
  9. Mr Domitianus, beaten on the posterior with a lamp post, on the roundabout.
  10. No, don't hang up, put the handset down on the table and walk away. They are paying for the call. Much more satisfying. Register with the marketing people mentioned, and also go ex-directory. I on;y ever get US calls now (not covered by UK scheme), which are few and far between.
  11. Nothing coded about it 'galvin': albicans means white. By having that chunky car park, the Plough is encouraging drink driving, and plenty there seem to indulge. When I saw the state of the entire frontage on Saturday, I was very glad I wasn't out and about the previous night.
  12. I second that. 37s obey the bus-squared rule (no bus for hours, then 9 of them). I have waited for more than 60 mins for a 37 (on a Saturday)

  14. Just don't go parading you're I heart dulwich green bags around London, or before you know it everyone will be wanting to come here. Probably to Bawdale Road. :-S
  15. Can we have toys for adults? B)

  17. Way back when, someone living in a shared house I lived in got involved in one of these cults (don't think it was S********gy). She disappeared, then came back one day 'accompanied' by several not very friendly people to collect her belongings. They pretty much ensured there was no communication. Pretty scary stuff.
  18. And if the Plough turns gastro, will that be the end of Vannus velocitatus (locally known as H. albincans) in the library area? Hope so...

    wtf?

Badger, if everyone did as you expected, wouldn't life be boring?
  21. We're planning a cycling holiday shortly, in the UK. So what book should I take for the trip? Requirements: Not too short - I can only take one Not too heavy - I have to carry it on the bike, and we're taking camping equipment! So no hardbacks, or heavy paper (hence I have dismissed The Crimson Petal and the White) Not too big (tall) - can it fit in a handlebar bag? Sufficiently engrossing, not too simple, not too demanding, appeals to whatever mood I'm in (I may be tired after a hard day on the road) Print size and quality - I may be reading in a tent in semi-darkness without lenses, so no tiny crappy print A good read - I don't get the chance to read too many non-work books these days, so each one needs to be worth it. So either a classic, or a recent top read. And a nice to have: does it relate to out cycling travels in any way? I have been considering Boswell and Johnson's accounts of their travels in Western Scotland, as our plan A has been to tour Islay, Jura and mid-Argyll - though the weather may push us to plan B or C, Somerset or the Cotswolds. My recent reads have included We Need To Talk About Kevin, A History of Tractors in Ukrainian (fiction); Last Night a DJ Saved My Life, Murder in Samarkand (non-fiction) and a travelogue about Cuba. Current candidates include Gilead (Marilynne Robinson), Istanbul (Orhan Pamuk) and Never Let Me Go (Kazuo Ishiguro)...
  22. There's one of those things at the southbound Mount Adon Park LL bus stop too. Two things have struck me - it never seems to show 185s (which actually come along) - buses 'disappear off the radar'. In other words, they are on the display, marked as 'due', then never show up. Ghost buses. There are other towns where these systems work well...

  24. I work from home every day, but that really means working, as in no hammock, no pub, no cocktails on the lawn...
