10/10 up on the southside. I hear from the Palace (Crystal) that it's pretty heavy up there too.

That's more than two weeks after I called Southwark to get it refilled, and more than two weeks after I last wrote on this issue on this thread. And of course now we have snow again. Are none of the ED grit bins being refilled? -
A Green Chain Walk in January anyone?
louisiana replied to Ian Bull's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Ian, I was on the Nunhead to CP walk that day. I'd be interested in doing the full monty super-hike, going further out east. Let us know if this one is planned again. -

A happy ending! -
It started, stopped, and now it's started again. I'd say now 7/10 or so (southside on the hill).

I'm quite happy with G&B's position. It's clear. I always make sure I have some local cloth bags (East Dulwich SNUB; Crystal Palace cinema campaign etc.) when I head down to the bottom end of the Lane. I have also learned not to try and buy wine from G&B on my way back from the airport (when there is no way I'd have any space or bag for anything - I returned last night with around 25kg of goodies from Bilbao, and an extra box with wine would have been out of the question).

I read it, at the time. The Guardian then covered the 'leak' of the report of the cable discussing same. Which has produced zero new evidence, as the Portuguese authorities accurately state. I don't know which newspapers you read, but it's clear throughout the Wikileaks affair that many papers have failed to report stuff in the Wikileaks stream purely because *they were not among the select press* that were part of the leak process (El Pais, The Guardian etc.); and thus got into a huff about anything in the cables. But clearly, the cable just confirms stuff already reported by UK media at the time regarding relations between the different police forces. There is no evidence of anything, just hearsay about process. So not quite sure what your point is here.

RosieH has hit the nail on the head. Good tune, familiar but not overplayed, excellent and appropriate lyrics. Teenage Kicks is for those with a complete imagination bypass, the brain dead DJ.

The interweb being what is it is, sites taken down will often pop up again somewhere else, but often not without considerable hassle. There are many ISPs, there are many countries running their own domain registries...and there is always Bolivia :-S I am concerned about the situation with payment companies. There are so few of them, and clearly they are easily swayed by a politician or two. To say that someone is doing something illegal, when the basis for that statement is a letter sent between two other parties, and the letter does not make that claim, seems dubious in the extreme. In the early days of interweb, there was much talk of alternative payment systems, but it's mostly fallen to the usual suspects to run the show; and PayPal is now a giant in the pocket of the US. (I'll be interested to see how Datacell's case with Mastercard pans out.) Perhaps the issue of payment systems needs to be addressed again. In fact, I maybe the 4chan/Anonymous/Operation Payback crew could do something useful, like build an independent payment system.

I feel for you Sue, but haven't heard anything in the last month. Presumably you're wondering about a reduction in number of years required?

They are great, and have drawn admiring comments from visitors. A real asset to the neighbourhood, and will be there for many moons. Can anyone remember the foundry's name? I know it's there but my memory's bad. -
The Chagossians have been treated so shabbily throughout. (6) Like you, Brendan, I'm both unsurprised and angry at some of what passes for government, at our expense (in both senses).

If this means what I think it means, cheap shot and easy way to write off a whole lot of very sensible people. Though I have no clear idea exactly what you mean by "the people who are most up in arms about this". What is "this"? AFAIK, supporters of some openness have not yet (a) proposed kidnapping anyone's son or (b) proposed assassinating or murdering anyone. Yes, there are some really strange ones on the other side, and some of them are too close to power for comfort.

+1 MP. I've still to see any good reason from the USG of why they withheld for 2-3 years (from Reuters, who were using FOI) the footage of the Reuters reporters being killed; and all the other people killed and injured (including children) by US forces in that footage. Though the footage certainly gave a fresh perspective on the idea of saving lives.

Santerme Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > > Plus he is a suspect in a rape case The case does not appear to be 'rape', and the EAW does not mention the word rape. It appears to revolve around a condom splitting, and this eventuality under Swedish law possibly contributing to a change in the balance of power during sex; with one of the prosecutors concerned being involved in pressing for proposed changes to Swedish law in this regard. One of the two women got upset that Assange had had sex with another woman apart from her on that trip and so decided to press charges for 'sex by surprise'(and then withdrew them). Don't think that's an offence in the UK. And as some will already be aware, one of the women concerned is fairly 'ultra' on the feminism front (and has blogged about how you can get at men using the law). Assange was staying with her for several days. Yet she pressed no charges during that time, it appears; it appears she only pressed charges once she'd chatted to the other woman he had sex with in Sweden, and found out he'd had sex with her. All very confused. This does not seem to be a cut and dried case, and there seem to be all kinds of things going on apart from any sex. (Interpersonal relations and jealousy, careerist prosecutor wanting to change the law, disagreements between different prosecutors in different towns, Swedish laws very different from our own, international politics etc.) I'm not defending the guy. Just saying that propagating the 'rape' idea (which has a certain image in many minds including my own) seems somewhat misleading. Ah, I was looking at the Interpol thingy, not the EAW. My bad.
