So how many pairs of shoes do you have, dulwichmum?
-
That's quite alright, Mockney. Anyway, the plods were not totally efficient, but not totally plodding either. They took it seriously, did the necessary (including tracing his car etc.), paid him a visit, and that probably really put the wind up him and it stopped. So all in all, very effectively dealt with. But their organisation does seem to be byzantine: very difficult to figure out who does what, which is half the battle. Louisiana

This reminds me of a story a friend in Barcelona told me. He worked in a hotel on Meridiana, one of the main local thoroughfares, and they had a regular customer there, who always insisted on taking the same room. They were rather intrigued, so decided to investigate. Took the room apart, searched everywhere, and finally found...an inflatable woman hidden behind the false ceiling in the bathroom. When they confronted him on his next visit, he insisted that he wanted the 'arrangement' to continue! Louisiana

You're right, of course, Mockney Piers. Both in that those words are superfluous, and in that technology is rarely 'planned' in any real sense. First and most important, systems developers rarely if ever do any real appraisal of what people need to be built. It's usually BOGSAT - bunch of guys sitting around a table, guessing. This is the single most important reason why stuff never works. I spend most of my professional life picking up the pieces, so I shouldn't complain. :) Louisiana

I went in on Monday for some beer :)-D and they were shut. The trouble with technology is that is rarely works as planned. Louisiana

The Maudsley / NHS Finances / South London Paper

Alan Dale Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > Does anyone know how to start an online petition > and step this campaign up to the next level? Why not try the epetitions thing set up by my mate Tom Steinberg? http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/ This is attached to the Cabinet Office, but nothing wrong with going to the top! I think there are matters of principle here - the use of NHS/public property, the responsibilities of NHS trusts, including to their local communities - which are of much wider application. You might even get the profile raised a bit if you can get some numbers going (the national press tend to be on the lookout on the website for interesting petitions, plus Southwark News, SLP etc might even run a story if it gets going.) You can also point local councillors, MPs etc to it, so it makes a great focal point. A word of advice: be very careful how you phrase the petition, as you can't change the wording later. Perhaps draft it collaboratively, to get input from several people and get it just right. Does anyone know something more about parkhill? Their activities are beginning to strike me as somewhat worrying.

They always deliver on time (one-hour time slots), and the drivers are always very personable and helpful. There are some Waitrose things I can't do without e.g. Waitrose own brand luxury lemon curd - like the Dutchy Originals one, but much cheaper. Oh, and their chilli-spiced pickled onions, the best I've ever had. Louisiana

I had the bobbies around last year, dealing with a s***ker. Very nice and helpful they were too. Louisiana

Man - and particularly woman - does not live by pegs alone. A good bakery would be great, as would a good and extensive fruit and veg. I think a cycle shop would be no bad idea. I'm going to be buying a new one this weekend, and will have to hike townwards, together with fellow cyclist Mr L. And talking of flimflam shops, I was in ED yesterday morning and bought a very practical summer skirt, not flimflam (though I was tempted). Louisiana

Does not Southwark have 'town centre managers' or similar, who in some places encourage business, look after shoppers' interests, and so on? If not, perhaps we should propose. Otherwise there is nobody taking a cohesive approach to business in the place, which can only be bad news. Louisiana

Perhaps they could hand over management to the Horniman, and turn it into an anthropology installation demonstrating what 'bobbies' were like in the good old days, complete with sound effects as you moved between the exhibits "Hello hello hello." "I was proceeding in a northerly direction, when the suspect..." "It's ten twenty-six, madam." "The desk sergeant has gone to tea." "I must warn you that under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act, anything you say may be..."

You live on Barry Road? Truly the Badlands of Dulwich B) I don't think a local bobby house will save you.

Women only sessions at the Dulwich Leisure Centre pool

Keef Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > That Elderly daycentres thing is a bloody stupid > arguement, as daycentres for the elderly are > purpose built for that very reason, they're not > public day centres that take membership fees from > non elderly people! Schools and built for children, but that doesn't stop other user groups from making use of them (e.g. private music classes, community groups, private residents' associations, sports clubs, elections etc etc.) It's just a queation of where 'society's' thinking is at any particular point in time, what priorities are, what resources there are, what the populace is demanding. This shifts all the time. > > For the record, Forest Hill has women only > sessions too, Mrs Keef avoids them like the plague > as it gets so busy! I wouldn't know, as I don't go swimming any more. I used to go to Forest Hill, but haven't been since being smashed up in a train crash in '91 (I spent several months at Lewisham Hospital doing hydrotherapy with a physio in their pool, but the NHS timed me out once the shoulder had some movement). I miss it quite a lot, but just can't cope with public pools any more. Louisiana -
Violence and more violence. Being locked in the coal hole. Having her father pawn everything. Being beaten up when she was pregnant. She spent most of the hour wiping her nose with her hand and jacket cuff and trying to stop her mascara from running. Louisiana

Women only sessions at the Dulwich Leisure Centre pool
louisiana replied to Mark's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I'm sure Fusion will respond to demand. If there is insufficient demand for the women's sessions, they will go. The one other pool I know of that runs these sessions (in east London) is pretty busy. My particular bugbear is the crap selection of electronic music that Dulwich library stocks (you know, Ibiza Dance Anthems 2001-6). When I enquire further why there is no Brian Eno etc etc, they claim that that's all people take out, and when they didn't stock this stuff 'nobody took out the electronic records'. So that's what they buy and stock, and they tell me to go to Stoke Newington library (Elephant and Castle) if I want anything else. So much for market forces. Louisiana -

Or do you resent those old people's day centres, for the exclusive use of the elderly?! Just think of all the over-stewed tea you're missing out on. And crikey, they've even got mobile libraries! For disabled and housebound people! And not you! How unfair is that?! Louisiana -

Do you also resent money being spent on children's libraries, and space and time in libraries being earmarked for particular user groups? After all, the tiny chairs cannot be used by you, and there are all those picture books you can't read! And what about all those youth clubs with pool tables (paid for from the public purse!) that you are not permitted to take advantage of? Louisiana
