  1. Which nappies did you switch to if not using Huggies/Pampers? Willing to try anything
  2. I dont think is purely nappy related as it would be everywhere not just his bottom. We switched to Huggies a few days ago anyway but rash is worse possibly because he had a couple of nights where he slept longish stretches and was not changed for a few hours. Feel so bad over this and coupled with lack of sleep it's a recipe for lots of tears!
  3. We are having the week from he'll. First my daughter caught dreadfull cold whichmy mum now has and then my 19 dayold son developed terrible nappy rash seemingly overnight. It is so bad he can't sleep and is crying and uncomfortable all the time. If it were summer I would keep him nappy free but with the cold am afraid it will never go away. Considering taking to GP can anything be prescribed?
  4. Does anyone know whether a GP will see someone visiting the uk? My mum is over from Greece with bad cold and coupled with her asthma she sounds at death s door. Am getting worried
  5. SOunds worth a look. And I think I have figured out why poor lamb is so restless - bad nappy rash and pooing constantly. I think he wakes when he is uncomfortable which is pretty much all the time
  6. My little bug is going to be three weeks on Friday. He is exclusively breastfed and gaining weight nicely. In the first 2/3 days he was at the breast almost round the clock but since there was only a tiny bit of colostrum it was mostly to soothe himself and jump start the milk supply. Milk came in day 3 and almost immediately he seemed more content and spent large parts of the day (but, crucially, not the night!)sleeping. At night he woke up a lot and fed and was hard to settle. At some point - I guess some time in week two he slept well in the day, long naps and ok in the night ? dream feed around 10.30 and up at 2/3am and around 6am. This pattern continued for 2/3 days and I felt so much better for it. Then suddenly overnight he had terrible time sleeping seemed very grizzly and uncomfortable day and night. Bad wind, hard tummy, some throw up, seemed colicky (for lack of better word). This was a very pronounced change made me think it was something I may have eaten or drunk (only culprits I can think of: orange juice and some alcohol). Again he flipped round and slept better at night and seemed better in the day although nowhere near as settled and then again last night made me want to scream - was up most of the night, snacked a lot but not fed properly and seems very windy again this morning. Tried giving him Infacol in first week but gave up early on not sure if I should try it again as he is awfully hard to burp! I am keen to try some kind of routine on him as he seems much happier when his feeds are spaced out at around 3hours - I have noticed if he feeds sooner than he should he usually brings it all back up. His bedtime is a little late at around 7.30/8pm so that my husband has a little time with him and it coincides with my daughter's bedtime but I have noticed that by 7pm he is very tired and would rather be asleep (usually we wake him for a bath). Anyway not sure what the point of this post is other than sharing (am very tired!) but would love to hear how other mums with newborns are coping!
  7. Best of luck keeping fingers crossed for you!
  8. All I know is the other night I had a glass of white wine and a glass of Prosecco and woke up with massive headache. I would say stick to what you enjoy within reason and you cant go too far wrong. By the way was anyone else asked by midwifes at Kings whether they had alcohol while pregnant? They asked me and I said yes (not to excess obviously) but found odd question to ask someone who had JUST given birth.
  9. Fingers crossed it's not reflux - but it's very early days yet. He is probably gorging himself on too much foremilk and then throwing some up. Problem with expressing some of it before feeds as I have seen suggested is that you are effectively building up your milk supply even more! I think I do have overactive let down hopefully baby will catch up with me. I think midwife/health visitor is coming for last visit tomorrow so will ask but I find you tend to get very contradictory advice from them (or get told it's nothing which although perhaps true not helpful!)
  10. My little one (10 days) started vomiting quite a bit of milk soon after feeding on a couple of occasions. Definitely not posseting the milk is not digested and throwing it up does not upset him - it upsets me enough for the both of us! Once he threw up as I was changing his nappy so lying flat and am worried in case it happens while he is sleeping. Wondering if this is due to my milk supply suddenly being plentiful. Is he getting too much - I try to stick to feeding every three hours unless he demands it sooner - or is it too much foremilk? I have been trying to build up supply by pumping because there wasn't enough milk to keep him happy. I find it hard to burp him at the moment which could be an issue. He is also getting very frequent and painful sounding hiccups. He is also having pooey nappies with yellow mustardy curdled texture (gross I know but in case it's relevant!)today as opposed to really runny as usual. Not sure if this is related or not. If anyone has similar experience please let me know whether you changed your breastfeeding habits or is it something the baby outgrew etc. Many thanks!
  11. My new little one is ten days old today (feels like it should be much longer!) and from day one he has been very restless - feet and especially arms always moving and long nails scratching his face etc. I started swaddling him at night but he is a regular little houdini and will escape all but the tightest of swaddles. I bought a Kiddopotamus Swaddleme contraption from amazon that has velcro and he is sleeping well* with that on except he is still tries to escape. During the day we have had times when he will sleep very peacefully without a swaddle and days like to day when the fussing only stopped after I swaddled him. What are your experiences with swaddling? When do people usually stop? My daughter was born during a heatwave in 2006 and I never swaddled her because it was so hot even a nappy felt like too much. * when I say he sleeps "well" that's only when he is not ravenous for the boob - some days he is content and others he feeds non stop. Last night was very bad!
  12. Been out of the loop with baby supergolden keeping me busy and sleepless but want to say Fuschia all the best and I sympathise completely. What a wonderful community this forum is. Best of luck - and hopefully sometimes all the doctor panicking is for nothing
  13. Can anyone recommend any websites where I can order some decent nursing tops/dresses? None of my regular clothes are suitable or fit me and the stuff in Pretty Pregnant is either too expensive or I don't like (the Boob clothes). Also can recommend nursing bras that are supportive and pretty (!) I got one from PP yesterday and it's pretty good (Anita) but would like to explore more options.
  14. Our little boy was born a week late - but on his actual due date by my dates - on Guy Fawkes 5/11/10 weighing 4.074kg. We still have not settled on a name but thought I would add him to the thread. Any other babies arrived?
  15. To be exact he is 4.074 Kg according to the little blue card the gave us. Midwife told me I only sustained a 1st degree tear but I think she was being not totally truthfull as the midwife that visited me today had it down as a 2nd degree. But I have to say I feel it less than first time around. Thank you so much for all the lovely messages makes me rather emotional reading the whole thread! Now we really need to decide on a name - will refrain posting pics until we do
  16. Well I managed to avoid an induction - contRactions started at around 7am (I walked around the block few times last night) and we managed to get to Kings when I was in proper labour around 9.30am. Thrilled to have managed it all naturally, on gas and air. There were a few hairy momentss when baby's heartbeat was dropping and doctors stepped in talking c section which I managed to hear through my stoned haze but thankfully a healthy baby boy was born at 4pm at a hefty 4kilos! He proceeded to breastfeed non stop till about an hour ago. UnfortunAtely have to stay overnight but hope to go home tomorrow. thanks for all the support everyone! Btw no name yet will post a pic soon x
  17. On gas and air, having it naturally (I bloody well hope). Hopefully I won't need any interventions. PS This is being typed by her husband -she's busy visiting contraction city right now.
  18. I will keep you posted as I'm planning to take every single apple product on the market with me (ipad, ipod and a laptop - just in case!). Having some pains right now hopefully they will improve my chances tomorrow. Just wanted to ask what type of pain relief (apart from epidural) you were offered if any and whether they helped. I want to avoid an epidural and managed with just gas and air last time but am keeping my options open! Thanks for all messages of support.
  19. That's the thing that worries me the most as I am unable to sleep anywhere but in own bed (and frequently suffer from insomnia there). I spent the night in antenatal ward on Tuesday and slept maybe 20mins. I was an emotional and physical wreck next morning and practically left against medical advice.
  20. I have been through the ringer this past week going to Kings every day and staying overnight on Tuesday. Dont have much time to go into detail right now but finally today I have been talked into having an induction tomorrow am (if there are available beds). I REALLY would like to avoid this but I have had enough of going into hospital and seeing different consultants each time. In a way I do feel pressured into it (I am 41wks tomorrow) but I have a kidney condition which is making everyone there nervous. I would love to hear experiences from those of you that had an induction - the pessary kind that is given over 24h rather than the type you get after your waters break. Any advice gratefully received I am having some "contractions" right now following a sweep earlier but they are not regular or that painful more like period pain. It would be lovely if I could go into labour naturally tonight but I am not counting on it!
  21. Kept overnight for observation - what a f****** joke! Will post later right now still in hospital trying to dicharge myself after horrible night in which had maybe 20m of sleep. No baby yet he is happily squirming with no intention of coming out yet! Ladies fight your corner just because they are doctors does not mean they are right. Hope I can get out by 12 if not may turn murderous
  22. Had very weird incident last night woke up at 2am shivering uncontrollably but no fever. Currently at kings MAU being monitored. Looks like baby is lying sideways again so waiting for doctor to scan me again then they may try a sweep. Likely to be here for hours and with almost no sleep last night am feeling completely wiped out. Wish me luck have no idea how the day will turn out!
  23. I am just going to Kings for delivery and am not with any midwife practice. I am booked to have a sweep on Wednesday morning at post dates clinic. I understand you can have a few sweeps before it works (if at all) then I am sure they are going to tell me about an induction date. I do feel rather awful right now so will see if that develops into anything. I would think you have the option to say no to an induction up to 42wks - they can monitor you at hospital to make sure placenta is ok. By my dates the baby should be due on 5/11 so perhaps I was right all along (the adjusted the EDD according to scan)
  24. Now 3 days past due... Not fed up exactly but certainly wondering if every twinge means labour is starting. How is everyone else doing?
  25. Mamma Mio do a lovely oil and tummy rub cream which is very rich and smells great. Slightly more expensive but worth it
