Yes I am a sahp (since my first 6.5years ago) now on baby no 3 I go to a variety of groups and also do lots at home, have you looked at blogs for ideas handsonaswegrow redtedart and happyhooligans are great. How old are your children?

yes absolutely every birth is different, I've done it 3 times and each was very different. If you look at the stats, it is safer to be at home than hospital if you are low risk but I also know of cases where things have not gone to plan and not ended well, but this can also be said for women giving birth in hospital. It isn't about courage, it is about considering your own personal situation, what you want your birth to be like and your relationship with and advice fom your midwives. Around here we are very lucky to have brilliant community midwives who are experienced in hb, when I had my second baby, I wasn't in ed and there was a stark difference between midwives there and here, which is why I opted for a birth centre for that birth. Happy to talk practicalities and share experience if that helps.

I have had two planned homebirths in ED, one six years ago and another last year, both v straightforward pregnancies and births, had a pool and was hypnobirthing. I used a tends machine too. For me it was exactly how I wanted it to be and would do it again if I had the opportunity. Feel free to pm any qs.

I am a sahp I love it but it did take quite a bit of adjustment. I have been able to attend every single sports day, school trip, nativity etc that came up (only missed some trips recently due to having third baby) and for me, that is very important. It is hard, but this time is such a short window in their lives it is so worth it. If you do it, I would say that you need to make sure that time for you is factored in, I need to have something that isn't the children to give me a break.

Another recommendation for Steve here, he has completed two fantastic gardening jobs for us in the last six months and recently a paint job also. I have been very pleased with the high quality work, Steve is very professional and friendly and also very kind to my children. Steve is the first person I call when I have a job that needs doing.

To slow cooker or not to slow cooker
Mariamadeit replied to ACBP's topic in The Family Room Discussion
www.slowcookercentral.com is fab too! I would recommend getting one with the inner that can go on the hob to brown meat if you want to and can go in oven to finish off dumplings etc. Slow cooker is much more economical than having the oven on all day and can be safely left on whilst you go out. -
Yes, thoughts with those and their families who are affected, wishing them a speedy and full recovery.

Would you take this quick survey for me?
Mariamadeit replied to Sally81's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Done, are you setting up a maternity clothes website? There is a great fb page called "can I breastfeed in it? uk" which you should take a look at. -
slow cooker is fab for this, prep in the morning/night before and then just turn on or even use a timer switch, my children love spinach and ricotta lasagne, bolognaise sauce, stew, curries, whole chicken...

If you want younger sibling to go to the same school as older sibling, do you just put that one choice?

Harris Primary (East Dulwich) feedback so far...?
Mariamadeit replied to ksh's topic in The Family Room Discussion
nope, planning permission was granted at the very end of the summer term so they have been working on preparation for demolition which I think is scheduled for September. -
I just looked on the Kings website and found this " Waterbirths: Find out more at our twice monthly drop-in sessions held on the first and third Tuesday of the month. Meet at the Nightingale Birth Centre reception desk at 6.30pm. No need to book."

I would recommend that she registers with one of the community midwife teams (Oakwood are fab) she needs to be quick, then she will get home appointments, great support all through pregnancy and they will come with her to kings or she could stay at home.

Harris Primary (East Dulwich) feedback so far...?
Mariamadeit replied to ksh's topic in The Family Room Discussion
The current reception class is undersubscribed but that is not surprising as there wasn't a school until the end of August last year. The next reception class is expected to be full, but it is clear that the site and the uncertainty over the new site is a worry for people. The planning meeting in June is expected to sign off the plans so that work can start in July, which should help with this. The head is currently organising a consultation on what language to offer in year one, i am happy with this as reception is so full of other things for children to get to grips with. Classes do have a pe class in which they change into their kit and do an activity, there has been dance and athletics type activities so I am unsure what you are expecting beyond this. They use a room indoors if the weather is bad or the tennis courts, the pe classes are timetabled to use the tennis courts so whilst they aren't available 100% of the time, they do use them at their allocated time, which would be the same in any other school. Regarding lessons, there is phonics, reading, maths, literacy lessons as well as the free flow tasks that are all again very similar to other schools, the national curriculum is being followed and the opportunities for learning are engaging. I am unsure what you are expecting, but this is what schools do. Recorder lessons and singing happen on Wednesday afternoons which a teacher from e girls school, all children have a recorder to practice at home. I would not expect children to be taken swimming until further up the school, however they have been on a number of trips including to the zoo, wildlife centre, library, farm and shortly to the seaside. As I have Sid previously, I am very happy with my son's progress at school, he is well settled and enjoys school, he is certainly doing more an "coping" or "putting up with" school. It seems to me that maybe this school isn't right for you, not every school will suit every family. -
PayPal? Someone at school organised a collection at Xmas, we all paid whatever we wanted to her PayPal and she organised the gifts.

Outdoor/forest nursery in East Dulwich?
Mariamadeit replied to frantic_expat's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi, my daughter will be in the same school year. She goes to blossoms Montessori who have forest school days (the day changes each week and they go every other week) there are also several outdoor groups on different days that you can take part in, if you aren't doing full time nursery. There is also small acres school which is based in the park and they are outside all the time. You will need to register online for the school admissions process which opens in September and you will need to make your school choices by January, you can call the schools to book a place on their open mornings to look around. Private school systems are slightly different. Depending on where you live, you may/may not have more/less "choice" look at the school threads on here for info, you might want to bear this in mind when looking for a home. -

Harris Primary (East Dulwich) feedback so far...?
Mariamadeit replied to ksh's topic in The Family Room Discussion
The planning committee are meeting in June and are expected to sign off on the building work so that it can commence in July. I think the issue here is that the op asked for feedback from parents at the school, not speculative comments or hearsay. The two reception classes are expected to be full.
