Hi! We?re thinking of buying a car as I?ll be attending university next year (quite far from here) and I thought it would be easier and cheaper to drive there. But I have no idea how much a car can cost (monthly)... Could anyone give me a rough idea? How much do you think I would spend per month in car insurances or other similar costs? I?ve tried to check car insurance costs online but they ask me all sorts of details (even the car details, which I don?t have yet!), so I?d rather not give them any information... Could anyone help me? Thanks!

Sharing baby's name whilst still in the womb
lorenika replied to EDmummy's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My sister got pregnant, from the beginning her husband couldn't think of any boy names as he was convinced it would be a girl. And finally today, she had her scan and they told her it's a girl! In the end it seems like the father was right, lol. Anyway, we're all so happy with the news that I just wanted to share it with you. It's the first baby in the family, you can imagine how happy the grandparents are! and me, the future auntie! :) -

Hi! Some new flats are being built next to Barry's off license (where the Dulwich Van Hire used to be) and I was wondering if anyone knows anything about this... (finishing dates, lettings or just for sale, etc...) Thanks!

Heber primary school memories
lorenika replied to jim_the_chin's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I read a book last year for university called East End Memories, by Jennie Hawthorne, which reminded me a little bit to your book. For us, who are studying child development, this was an amazing resource that made us understand better how a child sees the world at that age. I love this kind of books that make you 'travel' to another time and make you value what we have now (or what we don't anymore). I must admit that sometimes I get bored reading books, but when I was reading your chapters, I just couldn't stop. You explain everything with such detail that you allow us to live that moment too. Very interesting, as I said, I'm sure many people would like to read stories of someone who lived in the area. I'd love to know more about what Dulwich was like many years ago. You should definitely think about publishing the book. Let me know if it happens, I'll be your first buyer! I can't think of any names though, I think it needs to be something special for you. If you have grandchildren, maybe they could come up with a good title! After all, the book is about a child's mind, so children could find a great title. Good luck and keep us informed! -

Wow, I thought it was a book you had published, i think it's quite good. You should do something with it. It would be great if you publish some chapters that we can read, but if you publish it, I'll definitely buy it! -

What the hell is going on on Barry Road? (shooting)
lorenika replied to TonyQuinn's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
This is really scary... I hope police find out whether this guy was killed deliberately... And if he was, imagine the killer makes a mistake and when I leave my house they shoot me instead.. I live just 3 or 4 houses away from where the shooting happened, and I left my house 15min before that, so I can't help feeling worried... I don't feel safe anymore. I know many of you would say 'this is London, what do you expect?', but I guess I used to feel safe here (at least safer than in other areas), and I don't anymore... Really sad.. -
I'm new in East Dulwich and so far I've loved every place and street I've seen around here.. I would love to hear what your favourite place in ED is and what it makes it special to you, maybe a street.., a house.., or even some special memories you have from your childhood in ED... It would be great to hear it. Thanks everyone!

Homeless people outside shops asking for money
lorenika replied to tiger ranks's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I'm just wondering... don't these people have a chance to work in any job? I mean, I think some of them prefer staying in the streets asking for money than looking for a job and working as we do. I think all of us work hard to pay our bills... Anyway, I don't want to generalise, as some of you said before, there may be really messed up people who really need help. I just think that begging for money is not the solution.. Do charities help them find any kind of job? -
Hi everyone! All the estate agents told me that before renting a flat, I'll have to pass a credit check (for which I have to pay a lot of money). Because I come from abroad, I only have a bank account here (opened 4-5 months ago) which is not even a normal account, it is one of those that you can use only to put in and withdraw money but you can't even get a visa debit card to pay in shops... (depressing..) The only credit history I may have is a couple of months paying my mobile phone contract... not much.. If they wanted to check my accounts in my country, they could find lots of information, but here.. what can they find here? Do you think they'll reject my credit check and I'll lose my money trying? This is really difficult.. To get a mobile phone contract I had to pay ?100 deposit because they couldn't find any credit history (of course they couldn't! if no one allows me to open normal accounts, to get credit cards, to get credits, etc.. how can I have a a credit history?? My sister is going to rent the flat with me and she has had a bank account opened in the UK for the last 7 years (although she didn't use it much and she has never had any phone contract or anything that could show her credit history. Do you think she may pass the check? What is the best way to sort this out? I'm sorry if the question seems stupid but I guess I'm new into this and I need to rent this flat!!! Thank you all!
