  1. The other William Hill (opposite ED station) is also now empty. The smaller unit next door (the other side of Vale End, also empty) is apparently going to be a funeral director - William Dunphy. I guess that counts as another change of use!

The front of house seemed entirely new on my two (booze only) visits to date. One of the new team did imply that there is continuity in the kitchen. I agree that the prices are punchy but I don?t think they are significantly higher than those charged by the Palmerston before the change in regime.
  3. Been in twice since the soft opening on Friday night and am encouraged by the extent of the continuity.
  4. Whilst I too mourn the loss of the outgoing Palmerston, why the rush to judgment here? There seem to be seven pubs in the Old Spot group and on-line research suggests that no two menus are alike. I agree that the Limehouse menu isn't inspiring, but is that necessarily the best comparator? (I say that as someone who bought his first house in E14 and lived there for nine years before moving to ED). I will be keeping an open mind: on the basis of DF's intel it doesn't sound as if we will have too long to wait.
  5. Having looked at the other Old Spot pubs mentioned in the press release it seems that the food menu is fashioned according to each location. Unsurprisingly the pub in Farnham Common appears to have a food offering closest to the current Palmerston whereas the Limehouse offering is distinctly pub grub. I guess we have to hope the ED offering will be closer to the Farnham Common end of the spectrum! http://lgn1390837841.site-fusion.co.uk/restaurant-menu
  6. The proposals look like a sensible compromise to me.
  7. When i called Mr Liu over the weekend their voicemail message said they were aiming to re-open tonight (presumably to coincide with Chinese new year). Haven?t been up that stretch of LL today so no idea if they are back up and running.
  8. We are also supporting the proposed CPZ. This isn't because of a desire to park outside our home (we don't own a car). However the problem of commuter parking is particularly pronounced on Derwent Grove because of proximity to the station. This means that it is very difficult for visitors and in particular tradesmen to park - a major problem when they have materials and equipment with them to unload. Because there is no existing parking regime it is also not possible to suspend bays when people move in/out. Although the convention is that people use wheelie bins in an attempt to secure a space this is increasingly breaking down and so people just have to block the road for major deliveries - cue a shouting match several times a day from angry motorists using the road as a rat run. Until 6 years ago I lived a similar distance away from Limehouse DLR station and the Tower Hamlets CPZ worked very well.
  9. I had an email this morning to say that the new M & S (in the flat complex next to East Dulwich Station) will be opening at 10am on 15.11.18. Contrary to the artist's impressions on the original plans it seems this is to be another Food Hall (not just a Simply Food).
  10. An update would be welcome as we are currently feeling a little bereft! When we moved to ED in 2013 we checked out all the local Indian options and rapidly concluded that T? nights was by far the best. Trips to a couple of the other venues since the fire have been disappointing. Where to go now?
  11. I reported the leak to Thames water ten days ago. Today there are some blue painted markings on the pavement adjacent to the leak, so I?m assuming this means a repair is now scheduled.

The fact that an Order for possession was made suggests that the rent was not paid. Ultimately, that sounds like a failing business albeit one with a long pedigree. Sad, but hardly uncommon or a reason to sympathise with opportunistic trespassers.

The witness interviewed in the first TV clip (described as a neighbouring shop-keeper) looks very much like a younger version of the guy who now owns the Cheese Block. Is it him?
  14. Another very positive review for Steve the Spin Doctor. He booked us in at short notice and today reprieved our ailing washing machine for the second time in 4 years. Helpfully he also gave recommendations for a suitable replacement when the last rites do have to be administered. He arrived slightly early, identified & solved the problem quickly and charged just his usual call-out fee. Very impressed.
  15. Sue Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Why do M&S need another shop so close to the > existing one?? Unclear. But I guess it suggests the current food hall has exceeded expectations in terms of anticipated sales. Perhaps Waitrose can take the Grove Vale library site when they move into the new unit.
  16. Apologies if this has been covered already/elsewhere, but the developer of the new build next to the station is now explicit that M & S are taking the retail unit: http://www.caddingtonblue.com/?page=item-detail&item=354 Obviously Waitrose would have been preferable but, if confirmed, this would be something of a step up on the original Morrison's proposal.
  17. Just returned from a weekend away to discover this appalling din. Can I urge all those affected to email DHFC to complain? If Southwark won't act and further such events are planned, there are other legal avenues that a little crowd funding could get underway.
  18. If anyone has an up to date address for Alice Hulbert (possibly of - or formerly of - Derwent Grove) please can they PM me? I am receiving semi-regular correspondence for her from Dawlish. Thanks.
  19. bob Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I was told by another restaurant that they owned 3 > others and they all closed on the same day. > Bob S Draw your own conclusions. I've been told that this was a police raid, not an immigration raid. But of course Foxy & Louisa are quite correct that we should await any criminal charges before drawing any conclusions. And further comment on here could potentially be defamatory (apart from the Sue v Foxy v Louisa joust, which is both ongoing and enjoyable). Enough said.

It's not a joke. I was told about the raid by another restaurant owner on LL last night.

Mick Mac Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > derwentgrove Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > Back on topic: had dinner at La Bonne Bouffe > with > > the other Mr Derwent Grove tonight. > > What did you have? would you recommend it? I'm afraid we got a little carried away (it was a Friday night and the start of a fortnight's holiday): A Kir Royal each French Onion Soup/Country Terrine Steak Hache in peppercorn sauce/Duck Confit Fries & Spinach Bottle of Chateau Lussac An Espresso Martini each in lieu of dessert The starters were both excellent. The duck trumped the steak hache. All of the food was rich but sensibly sized so we didn't feel overwhelmed. Planning to return post-holiday to try the Moules and the cheese next time.
  23. Back on topic: had dinner at La Bonne Bouffe with the other Mr Derwent Grove tonight. We think this place has much potential. Delightful staff, a charming room/ambience and well executed French classics. Definitely worth a look.
  24. Comrade Corbyn aside, I see that Helen Hayes again defied the Labour whip yesterday. Specifically, during the committee stage of the Bill, she supported the doomed Liberal Democrat amendment that there be a second referendum on the terms of the Brexit deal. I'm struggling to understand the logic/consistency in the following sequence: 1. Voting to support a national referendum Bill on whether to remain in the EU. 2. Deciding not to respect the national referendum result on the basis that it is important to respect the result in one constituency (Dulwich & W Norwood) 3. Supporting a second national referendum. I accept that all of 1, 2 and 3 above are absolutely HH's prerogative and that she is entitled to take a view on what she perceives to be the best interests of her constituents or the country at any given time. However I can't help thinking that she might have been better off voting against the first referendum being held at all if she wanted to remain in the EU. Having now decided to ignore the result of one national vote it seems bizarre that she should now support another one.
  25. > Not sure how you can say a democratically elected > government acting of the result of a referendum > that they said they would hold if elected is > "profoundly undemocratic" Agreed. Did Helen Hayes vote for the Referendum Bill? If so, I'm not at all clear on what basis her vote against activating Article 50 can be justified in the light of the result. Top marks for the virtue signalling much loved of this neck of the woods, zero marks for consistency, principle or democracy.
