When I went in the first weekend it opened I was very impressed by the service and the pizzas were lovely . The pasta was however the smallest portion I had ever seen. The pasta my brother was given was so small we thought they had brought a child's portion. My sister in law had 6 pockets of tortellini which worked out at a little over a ?1 for each little piece . Both were still hungry when they finished ! Not really good enough !

Successful appeals at Kingsdale School
malleymoo replied to Worrywart's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Sorry worry wart but I didnt really go into specifics with them about what they felt the grounds for appeal were. I just know there were a huge amount of very dissatisfied parents. I think as i felt fortunate to get my third choice when so many at my daughters scholl didnt get any of their choices I didnt really want to seem insensitive/ questioning of the reason for appeal -
Successful appeals at Kingsdale School
malleymoo replied to Worrywart's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Sorry to say worrywart, but when we had our meeting with someone from southwark education at the beginning of the secondary transfer process, she was very clear that there are very very few sucessful appeals in relation to the numbers who appeal. just going on the discussion in our playground there seem to be almost as many people appealing as originally applied ! I think the fact that they have a special meeting about the whole appeal process indicates that there is a sinificant number of people who appeal but cant inmagine many people are sucessful. Sorry if this is rather pessimistic, dont intend it to put you off as I would try all options if I felt my child didnt have a place at a school that I was at least able to live with -
Hi all I was wondering if anyone knew how easy it is to trace on a network if someone has signed on to someone else's e mails a friend just had a couple if very confidential emails printed out by someone else. Can a techno person trace which terminal it was done at,so she can work out who it was ? Obvioulsly she has now changed her password !

Secondary School Allocations
malleymoo replied to Renata Hamvas's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Does anyone know at what time do they reveal what school has been allocated online? Someone at school said morning and another said 5 pm tomorrow ? It would be helpful to know when to start checking as otherwise u suspect my daughter will wake me up extra early and will be very disappointed if not online yet ! -

Hi James Having just got back from taking my daughter to school I was horrified to spot road works signs suddenly being erected at the junction of East Dulwich road and Peackham Rye. As you will recall this was where an 11 year old was killed last January when roadworks meant that for many weeks there was no pedestrian crossing facilities. James are you able to check out as a matter or urgency what works are being planned, timescales and if there will be the pedestrian phasing that you mentioned in your recent reply to my inquiry. I hadnt got a chance to go and check out the Denmark hill set of works that you mentioned to see how easy it was for children to work out. I feel very anxious about this junction especially as many parents will have sent their children who are of an age to walk by themselves to school and won't know that theses works are occuring. Given your comments in your post last January about hoping further works could be scheduled in school holidays it is very frustrating that half term is only a week off. Hopefully I am getting in a state about nothing and maybe the roadworks are only planned for today and will be finished by end of school today but I would appreciate any info. malleymoo Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > With respect to the collission site and temporary > lights not having pedestrian phasing. With respect to the collission site and temporary lights not having pedestrian phasing. Southwark Council officers have told me that at present no temporary traffic signals with integrated pedestrian phasing have been approved by Department of Transport for use. That this is an industry wide concern and discussions are taking place with the Department of Transport, London Council's (representing all councils in London) and Transport for London with an expectation that approval will be given. No time scales yet on this. Clearly this means that when permanent lights are replaced with temporary lights existing pedestrian phasing is lost. To deter pedestrians from chancing this ridiculous situation barriers are placed but clearly some will try dodging traffic to cross a road. This is clearly a national issue. I've asked Southwark officers what timescales they understand for type approval of such phasing by the Dept of Transport. I've asked GLA member Caroline Pidgeon if she can ask Transprot for London what they understand the timescale to be. I've also asked simon Hughes whether he could ask a Parliamentary Members Questions to the Dept of Transport when they anticipate type approval. WHen I hear something I'll feedback on my councillor thread. In the mean time I've asked officers that generally for SOuthwark where pedestrian crossing near a school will be temporary out of operation that such works take place during school holidays. Clearly many utilities undertake emergency works but where not an emergecny this would a difference. -------------------- Regards james.barber@southwark.gov.uk 07903 964130 Liberal Democrat Councillor for East Dulwich Ward Chairperson of Dulwich Community Council, Lib Dem Environment & Transport spokesperson [www.jamesbarber.org.uk] xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Hi James as it is now a year sinc the tragic death of an 11 year old girl on the junction, I thought I would ask if you are able to update us on events since the accident. More specifically are you able to let us know if the council road safety team were able to draw up any recommendations to try to prevent further accidents on this stretch of road. Also I am not sure if the inquest would have been held yet, but if so were there any findings from this or the police investigation about the role the temporary lights may have played in this incident. Also are you able to establish are we any closer to the department of transport approving integrated pedestrian crossing facilities. As you will recall the loss of this young girls life was distressing to many people within the community and passing the site on a daily basis and seeing the fresh flowers to mark the anniversary it would be good to know if lessons have been learnt from this tragedy. -

My 10 year old gets occasional migraine headaches. Whilst this was a surprise for me at first we seem to have managed them pretty well and now seem to be down to 2-3 bad episodes a year. Having had a particuarly broken nights sleep with her last night and then quite a nasty bout today Ive realised that the last 2 bouts of migraine also had a similar pattern- not able to sleep the night before( despite generally being an excellant sleeper) and rather unusual dreams or thoughts. Last night she said she couldnt stop herself thinking about random people she knows and comparing them ??? whilst she doesnt seem frightened by the dreams /she was rather fed up as she felt the thoughts were out of her control and felt like the ideas were racing around her head. I was just wondering if anyone else out there who has children with migraine or indeed had migraine as a child also has experienced this sort of sleep disturbance before an attack. My Gp hadnt mentioned this and not sure if it is really migraine related or just a co-incidence as in future when I have my 10 year old tossing and turning in my bed chattering about her random thoughts i might reach for the nurofen before jamming pillow over my head.

Hooray I haven't been able to find anyone at work who watches it so I'm delighted to find it's not just me ! I watched the first series a couple of weeks ago mainly because I was intrigued by the advert for series 2 ( Nathan buried alive ) really liked series 1 but absolutely loving series 2. Fav character would have to be Nathan especially after the sun lotion incident last week which I replayed several times cringing and laughing too ! Must admit to being intrigued by Simon and the masked guy

It definately wasn't my finest hour. Ive worked in 'caring' professions all my life and have always taken get pride in being non-judgemental so it was especially horrifying. Molly so pleased you had a laugh! I must admit if everyone had laughed at the time I think i might have coped better and could have laughed along but everyone looked deeply uncomfortable so I tried to pretend I hadnt really been stood in my knickers. My daughter is now almost 11 and it was only this year that i managed to overcome my phobia of skirts or leggings with elastic/loose tops. Thought we had finally got past the embarrasing moments but today in convesration with some friends i mentioned that I had never met my grandad. little Malleymoo 'helpfully' tries to explain the reasons for this and informed my friend that this was because my mum decided to marry a catholic and my grandad dint want this to happen as he was a prostitute! Cue another awkward moment until i explained she meant a protestant.

My daughter has led to many embarrasing moments. one horrific one was being stood in the playground of nursery talking to some of the parents who i was only just getting to know when she came up to me and whipped my summer skirt right down to my ankles leaving me stood in my knickers! Also walking past a man who had both legs amputated and who was in a wheelchair she said very loudly " look at that silly man he has lost his legs!" My neice and nephew who were with us have never forgotten the horror of that moment! when I tried to complain to my dad about her behaviour he laughs and says its my punishment for being exactly like that as a child. He remembers being on holiday in Ireland and at my grans house. my dads female cousin came to the door I ran to open it and shouted loudly through to the assembled family- Hey dad its the lady with the moustache ! Apparently the room fell quiet which is very unusal in my very loud family. Though several aunts had to make excuses to leave the room with fits of the giggles during the visit.

There are a whole host of medical reasons that I understand could be behind moments of confusion. My elderly neighbour became quite confused disorientated when she had a urinary tract infection and the GP suggested this was quite common. Maybe it's worth trying to do more general (gentle) questioning about her health at the moment. I can see how tricky it is to broach, a friends mother has been demonstrating a whole host of worrying signs and despite all the family wanting her to go for tests etc, she refuses point blank as she doesn't want to risk the possibility that her fears of alzheimers are confirmed.

Possible gestational Diabestes in pregnancy - any advice?
malleymoo replied to EmmaCC's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi Emma I would suggest not worrying yourself too much at this Moment. I similarly was asked to do the glucose tolerance test following a routine blood test at my dr's surgery, unfortunately I wasn't informed aboutmmy raised sugar level fir several weeks after the test so I had a scary wait for my appointment. However when took the glucose terance test they were able to rule out gestational diabetes. I also know several other people who have had the same experience. Unwound suggest that till you have your test you eat well and try not to dress yourself out too much. As an aside it was only after I took the test that I really considered what might have happened and realised when I was going to the clinic I was often going straight from work and knew I could be there for some time and due to lack of better options was buying myself a kingsize chocolate bar each time I went to the clinic to keep my self going oops -

Solidarity instead of smugness please
malleymoo replied to Fi from West Dulwich's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Smug friends .... I think most of us have experienced this and I am definately in the find less smug freinds camp. I would rather turn to my freind with whom I have had many hilarious nights chatting about the horrors of parenting than one of my more perfect friends. i find myself increasingly suspicious of those who can not let mask slip and admit that at times parenting is hard unglamourous work. Ive also had 2 exceptionally smug and "perfect" friends 1 whom i later discovered was a victim of domestic abuse. The other had a child who slept through the night from an early age whilt my little angel didnt perfect it till she was 2 but by the time my little one got into a fantastic sleeping pattern and has remained a great sleeper my friends little girl began havingvery disrupted sleep normally leading to some form of tantrum in the early hours of the morning and even now at 10 has a terrible sleep pattern. This particular friend took ages to admit there was a problem as it was so hard to admit she wasnt finding everything easy ! I guess what I mean to highlight is that as a parent if you dont have it rough at one age there is a very good chance you will get it at a later point and i suspect those of us who are prepared to take the rough with the smooth stand more chance of seeing these incidents in a more realistic light and hopefully be more resiliant....... Oh I really hope so especially with teenage years just around the corner !Yikes -
former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?

Hi James any news on the goose green playground. It has become one of those niggling irritations that just seem to grow. I beleive it is two and a half weeks from when it was officially opened and still there seems to be no indication when the large climbing area will open. When i was last in there there was a steel fence supposedly sealing it off although because it has to go over the hills it is not flush to the ground and many children were using it even though there was some signs up indicating it was closed re health and saftey. Got to say the signs were rather unclear ie saying use it at own risk rather than the more helpful Danger keep out. My daughter who is 10 read it as if it was ok to use though I do appreciate the fence for adults should be the key to deciding not to let children they are accompaniying use it. Whilst I would not encourage any child to use it it is such a spectatcular piece of equipment that has been there for so many weeks without any progress that I can see how tempting if I was there without an adult I would be drawen to slippping under the fence. Is there any end in sight ? Obviously if there is a clear danger it must not be used but i cant believe how long the work has taken. I had posted on one of the other threads about how annoying it was that the workmen spent so little time actually working and my frustration about this grows every time I pass what should be a spectacular resource especially as this is now the holiday period. who commisioned the work? was there a time clause/ penalty built in? I was in that playground nearly 3 times a week since early May and every afternoon 3 .15 onwards when I was in the playground there were workmen on the site but they were not working. The progress was painfully slow and it seems such a waste of the hard work for all concerned in planning and identifying funds if the entire summer goes past without this work being completed. Thanks -

Vandalism of new playground at goose green
malleymoo replied to chuck's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Again ? Asfar as I can workout from the other thread it has never properly opened such a shame given the effort put in by fogg to get the revamp the time this has taken for work to be "completed" makes my blood boil -
Got to say reading the lists the thing that sprung to mind was drinking pernod and black all evening the throwing up a dramatic and alarming amount of vivid mess in front of a boy who I was trying to impress on his parents cream carpet. think I never spoke to him after that through sheer embarassment . funnily enough never drank pernod and black again either. several other drinks that have been mentioned above were also teen drinks so this may account for them not being popular anymore too many bad memories

I you are wanting to stay fairly close to London I did think about the Eton/ Bray/ cookham/ maidenhead area had a quick look at a site with some planned routres and found these http://www.cycle-route.com/routes/Dedworth_to_Maidenhead_Via_The_Thames_Path_And_Back_Via_Fifield-Cycle-Route-1611.html A scenic flat ride along the river to Maidenhead and back through farm land on straight road with many rises and falls. http://www.cycle-route.com/routes/Cox_Green_-_Knowl_Hill_-_Thames_Path-Cycle-Route-1415.html Cycle Steps A nice loop on NCR4 round the Cox Green area of Maidenhead, over Knowl Hill (a very challenging climb!) and than following the Thames back through Hurley, Bourne End and Cookham). Please be aware that some of areas of this route contains public footpaths and should NOT be cycled on. Now dont be put off by the mention of Slough in the next one Im from there originally and know its kind of grim but it has excellant connections to London and i you did want to go by train it would be quick- assuming bikes are still allowed and some of the rest of the route is fantastic. http://www.cycle-route.com/routes/Slough_to_Henley_and_Marlow_Loop-Cycle-Route-4643.html This is a road route, mainly on A roads, that is a lovely ride alongside the Thames. It is hilly around Maidenhead, then levels out around the river, before one last climb up to Danesfield. From here you are back to the river again. there were a number of other routes on the same site that mgiht be worth looking at too

So frustrating I am in the playground most afternoons and can not believe the workmens attitude to the job rom 330 onwards no work happens they either sit just inside the cabin or go to the loo with newspapers to read no actual work happens i had hoped with the signs up for the launch of the playground they might pull their fingers out ( or put down their newspapers) but no and so the oficial launch happened beore the playground was ready and when i drove past friday evenin there was tons of litter- shoddy to say the least. I hope there was a clause in the contract so builders didnt get paid unless they completed on time- unlikely i know
