I doubt if the people who do this are locals there are always loads of cars in Eynella and Eastlands etc- people too tight to pay the car park fees no doubt. I go to North Devon a lot and the streets there have dog mess (?1,000 fine btw) but it is not the locals that abuse the streets.

Be interesting to see if any of these people get a ?10,000 fine! https://uk.yahoo.com/news/million-people-march-protesters-gather-122502095.html

They didn't go after the BLM protests because it would have led to full scale riots. They didn't go after the NHS clapping because they would have been labelled 'killjoys' or wtte The people at the demo today were a mixture of quiet, usually law-abiding people in the main who want their normal lives back.....sitting ducks I suppose

I think so. A 66 year old relative who attended meetings and activities on a daily basis is doing very little in person. It's all Zoom meetings with other elderly and vulnerable people. It is noticeable that there have been fewer elderly out and about since the start of the epidemic.

It > shows no tolerance for differences. We have tolerance and equality enshrined in the laws of the land and people are supposed to be protected by them. Many members of the so called 'faith' communities actively encourage and disrupt the peace to promote their views with lies in many cases in order to undermine the law which by process of philosophical evolution has brought us here. We should NOT under any circumstances be dragged back into the middle ages regardless of what others might desire. The fact is that the parents in these faith communities raise their children to be intolerant and hostile towards those who do not subscribe to their ideologies and it is up to those in education to show those children that the UK is tolerant so that if they find themselves at odds with their own communities they feel safe to be different. There should be NO choice about removing your child out of the system that is teaching tolerances supported by the law of the land, and into a system that is at odds with those tolerances. I hate to say this but there are other places in the world that would indulge homophobia etc. And there should be NO 'faith' schools especially ones that are state supported and undermine the laws of that very state. We are all human and we want our freedom!

Southwark Covid figures up ? 26/08

It seems people are getting slack across the country judging by the upturn in the graph. https://uk.yahoo.com/news/health-secretary-warns-extensive-lockdowns-230154302.html -
I doubt if there is any sense of urgency because since the covid even legal documents are signed online using zoom or something for I.D. so there is no need to even go to the solicitors' office...(maybe the posties are working from home...sorry joke in bad taste!) BIrthday cards being sent out have been arriving OK so far

Here's the link https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/relationships-education-relationships-and-sex-education-rse-and-health-education I haven't read it all but know what has actually been going on to date and I know that in the Equality section of PSHE/Citizenship LGBTQ+ equality, or contraception is not discussed in some 'faith' schools as they have been allowed to opt out which reinforces intolerance and a dereliction of safeguarding duty in my opinion. The National Secular Society points out that 'faith' institutions may exploit loopholes. https://www.secularism.org.uk/news/2019/06/schools-told-to-take-account-of-pupils-religious-background-in-rse Primary schools do NOT have to teach sex education at all but they do have to teach Relationships https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/relationships-education-relationships-and-sex-education-rse-and-health-education/foreword-by-the-secretary-of-state second paragraph

Some businesses are not going to return any time soon because it's cheaper for people to work from home at the moment https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-53925917 not surprising really. No fares into town, no travel time lost and no exposure to the infected! However the sandwich bars, coffee shops etc will lose out- turn them into residential?

I challenged a boy who had touched a girl and she told him to get off and it was obvious that she was unhappy about it. He actually said 'she likes it really'...unbelievable. There were some advertisements about it a few years ago.

Southwark Covid figures up ? 26/08
seenbeen replied to Nigello's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Today we had 2 deliveries of post and a parcel necessitating the actual postman ringing the bell- no social distancing anymore by either of the deliverers. Also I had to ask a builder and a surveyor (who were expected) who came to the door to put masks on before entering. People in Southwark are getting slack.... -

Sweden has been bandied about as a good example of the herd immunity approach as it didn't impose a compulsory lockdown. https://www.newscientist.com/article/2251615-is-swedens-coronavirus-strategy-a-cautionary-tale-or-a-success-story/ -

The law of the land is crystal clear - there is NO place for hiding behind 'faith' and for too long the 'faith' communities have opted out and would DENY the hard-won rights of the LGBT+ PEOPLE and thereby perpetuate the persecution. After all- if it wasn't for Alan Turing- a gay man- where would be now? When you have a 16 year old muslim in your class saying out loud 'all gays should be stoned to death' in the 21st century then you realise it is time for dragging 'faith' into the 21st century....and stop pandering to their 6th century ideology mainly for catching votes! And how can you inform children by using a different version of....'Jamie has 2 daddies' or Matthew has 2 mummies'? What different version?

I've used Ziffit. About 5 years ago when I last used them the return was poor about 10p-20p a cd for mainly rock and it has to be complete with any inserts or badges or whatever. I've used them for books too- mainly set text books and the return was poor. I also noticed that the World of Books and Ziffit occupy a unit on the same Worthing industrial estate..... It is easy to use.

From the diabolical scenes in Birmingham and Nottingham last year I don't think the OP and 'his' ilk care who is doing the educating. The 'No Outsiders' materials dealt with non-traditional families- i.e informing young children that some families have 2 mums or 2 dads which is reality. If you have had personal experience of the utter misery caused to a young child who is subjected to the intolerance of the classmates (and some teachers) have when the family set-up becomes public knowledge- and it will- (and the medieval mind-set will jump all over it!) you will be dismayed to hear that the programme for RSE is postponed- WHY? Can't a letter be sent out? As far as I can see the postponement is a cop-out because the government do not want to deal with the so-called people of 'faith'....too right it's BLIND faith- blind to humanity and all its richness. For too long 'faith' institutions (they hardly deserve being called schools) have opted out of discussing equality for LGBT+ and the homophobia amongst 17-18 year olds has been ingrained since birth!

Barnier is unrealistic and intransigent and over a month ago EU leaders were going to sideline him. https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1308687/Brexit-news-EU-member-state-Michel-Barnier-UK-trade-negotiation-border-Michael-Gove I can't believe Barnier is still in his post since Boris had such a landslide victory and Barnier backed Teresa May's treacherous 'deal' Barnier is obviously holding out for OUR fishing waters he is a nasty man

No light at the end of the vaccine tunnel- no surprise to me since they didn't find one for SARS Covid back in 2002 despite tons of research. Xmas is cancelled by the looks of it https://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/coronavirus-vaccine-winter-chris-whitty-a4531171.html

What, you mean no-one got a test? Anyway since you refer to your cough as 'normal' I guess you recognised it as a common-or-garden variety of cough?

I would think if students fail the first year then given the exceptional circumstances of the A levels they may be offered a resit year but if their grades were inflated in the first place they may not be up to the work anyway. When teachers do the predicted A level grades in the autumn term of year 12 they are besieged by students wanting grades raised up and after much discussion grades are agreed upon. The deadline for UCAS applications is the middle of January so all the predicted grades will have been entered by then and sent off to the Universities- and they are usually pretty accurate for the majority of students. (Then you also get students who are predicted D and E grades, applying to top universities on their UCAS forms and they have to be persuaded to be more realistic in their choices.) It is not a one year thing but will affect the following year, and the upcoming year 12 students will also have to be accounted for.
