I have it on good authority (see email below) that the aforementioned is re-opening on its original site, next to the Cafe on Monday 14th July.Yay! After months, being temporarily sited in a dark and rather dingy hall, with little to no outside space, it is good to hear that the original site will be up and running in less than a fortnight. Fingers crossed that the council stick to the 14th. "Peckham Rye Playroom Unfortunately, due to subsidence affecting the safety of the building, the playroom could not be used by its usual client group ( parents/carers and toddlers ), so we looked for an alternative that was still within walking distance. I am aware that the community hall is not ideal, but it was the only venue that we could locate, in the catchment area. I will get the playroom manager to check the hall as soon as possible, and let you know if it remains adequate to use. There have been a number of factors that have caused a delay in returning to the buiding. At first, we were looking at replacing the existing building with a large Portakabin type building, using funds from the local Cleaner, Greener, Safer programme. This was put on hold, as we had discovered that the council was investigating the possibility of placing a multi-use building in that area of the park, which would include a purpose built playroom. This study is still currently being assessed. Though the larger project presented a great opportunity for the playroom, it was becoming clear that this would be a longer-term solution, so we decided to look at bringing the old building back into use, at least for the medium-term, while the larger project was developing. This ment demolishing some internal walls and making repairs and upgrading/replacing the electric supply, which had also been condemed. It was expected that the works would cost approx 18k to complete, money which we had to find. Resources were found to undertake the external electrical works in April, but in testing the building, additional works were required. These additional electrical works have recently been completed. The internal walls will be removed within the next two weeks and the making good will be carried out on the week of the 7th July. The facility will reopen to the general public on 14th July and its Mon-Fri opening will be reinstated from then on.
