Anyone else love Dulwich...
Kathleen Olander replied to Rockets's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Yes, that goes for this forum too... -
Forget the fair, enjoy the Maypole dancing on Dulwich Village Junction instead! 10th May, stick it in your diaries.
-
It is being advertised on a banner outside Dulwich Park.
-
Yes, you are quite right about Gary Cady he took it on in the 90s. I was thinking of the chef, but cannot remember their name.
-
It's complicated, the Dulwich Estate own the freehold of the land and Southwark Council are responsible for Belair Park, presumably on a lease. In the 80s the house was sold, presumably on a long lease, to quite a famous chef whose name I forget!
-
It is privately owned. Southwark Council sold it years ago and it was then called Beauberry House then renamed Belair House. Southwark Council own the park around it, Belair Park. When Southwark owned the house it was just a dilapidated crumbling shell.

Fireworks last night

No, my parents are in Nunhead and it was really noisy there too. They were only just going to bed so didn't wake them up 😁 -
Fireworks last night

I heard it as well, woke me up, very strange. I don't care for myself but I do worry for people with children and animals, it is a nuisance and happens more and more nowadays. -
Melbourne Grove South CPZ consultation
Kathleen Olander replied to first mate's topic in Roads & Transport
I was amazed at the amount of staff employed by the Dulwich Estate and the private schools in this area that live miles away. No way could they cycle, and the ones coming in from Essex would spend hours on public transport. Southwark Council also employ staff that do not live locally, but they moved the town hall from Peckham so they can all travel in directly to London Bridge! 😜 -
Beautiful Cherry Blossom Trees - Melbourne Grove
Kathleen Olander replied to ed_pete's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
That's a shame, I appreciated all the works you did improving the area, especially the tree planting. -
Melbourne Grove South CPZ consultation
Kathleen Olander replied to first mate's topic in Roads & Transport
The displacement of vehicles since the CPZ went in is unbelievable. Woodward Road, Desenfans, Dekker, Court Lane etc are now bumper to bumper all day. It has done nothing to deter all the school staff from bringing their cars in, since Carlton and Townley are no longer an option. I have no doubt these roads will desperately want their own CPZ soon! The cars will then migrate further afield and so it goes on.,,,,, -
Jones and Higgins was a lovely shop. It had a revolving door at one entrance. At Christmas Father Christmas used to be in the basement and the kids got on a little train to see him. They used to have a little zoo at the same time. When Father Christmas arrived they used to parade animals from the shop in Rye Lane up to Peckham Rye Park, they did this without closing any roads!

CPZ in Dulwich Village ward to go live on January 6
Kathleen Olander replied to Glemham's topic in Roads & Transport
You could have reposted the whole of my post rather than that one bit! Anyway I am out of here, otherwise I will have 7.4 posts to my credit as well. Where do you find the time?????????? -
CPZ in Dulwich Village ward to go live on January 6
Kathleen Olander replied to Glemham's topic in Roads & Transport
@Earl Aelfheah" The kids won't be arriving by car will they, there will be a CPZ so parents will just park elsewhere. Making coaches pay for a permit is fair, residents have to buy permits for their visitors, so why shouldn't the schools visitors pay too. The purpose of a CPZ is to create more income for Southwark Council. -
CPZ in Dulwich Village ward to go live on January 6
Kathleen Olander replied to Glemham's topic in Roads & Transport
@Malumbu "The school has taken action and coaches do not usually leave their engines on. One busy body (me) has called the school a couple of times to report coach drivers doing this." This really surprised me, which school did you contact? The schools JAGS, Alleyns and Dulwich Coll, whenever approached by local residents, claim that the coaches are nothing to do with them, are organised by the parents, and they are unwilling to intervene! Again why should residents pay to park in their own neighbourhood when coaches from outside the area get charged nothing to park all day every day. I rely on public transport and the coaches parked on East Dulwich Grove are a damn nuisance and cause congestion as the road is then not wide enough for the buses, so that they have to either go on other side of road or sit idling waiting for traffic to clear in opposite direction. -

Also notice there are no cost of payment indicated on the signage. Would you like all those coaches parked on your residential road? -

You are likely to get this thread locked as well, or is that the plan? -

Yes, I would say so......... -
CPZ in Dulwich Village ward to go live on January 6

But, now that there is to be a CPZ all around the private schools there will be nowhere for private cars to park and drop pupils off. In my opinion now would be the time to start charging the coaches. -
Royal Mail non delivery of parcels

I arranged a collection of 2 parcels for Saturday but no-one turned up. The management there are useless we have had no post for days. -
CPZ in Dulwich Village ward to go live on January 6
Kathleen Olander replied to Glemham's topic in Roads & Transport
I just think it's unfair that residents have to pay for permits and those who do not live in or contribute anything to the area park for free. Plus the amount of these diesel coaches in this small area must be contributing vast amounts of pollution. They also get to drive through DV and Townley Road during the hours that no-one else can, not even the people that live there. I find it strange that a Labour council should allow this. -

Are the private school coaches charged anything by Southwark Council to park on Townley Road, Gallery Road and East Dulwich Grove all day? -
Weird shapes in the sky Dulwich Village
Kathleen Olander replied to chuff's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I didn't see them, but how weird. I wonder what it was? It appears very bright and doesn't look like a drone to me.
