  1. or come to Nunhead and visit our lovely greengrocers, get some fish from Sopers and bread from our independent bakers Ayres, flowers from the beautiful florist and then treat yourself to a coffee in Bambuni and take some wine from the barrel home for supper!
  2. Leaving DMC was best thing I did last year for my health and sanity! I used to get great service there but not in the last two years. They clearly have too many patients on their books. I am now with the Nunhead surgery and very happy and healthier!
  3. There are lifts at either end of the bridge for crossing over the lines at Forest Hill station.
  4. http://livingsouth.greatbritishlife.co.uk/ latest issue featured Mary Portas and the Forest Hill, Sydenham and Kirkdale Project.
  5. seein this post today has really lifted my spirits. Well done to everyone involved. It's a beautiful message.
  6. There is one on Nunhead Green and also outside the station....
  7. totally daft idea and I nearly got hit by a cyclist t'other day as had no idea there was a cycle path there!! Totally illogical to have it going opposite direction to the buses in a street that has no other traffic and is surely mainly for pedestrians Back to the drawing board!
  8. Nunhead......which is where I live so maybe should have done it sooner but was in catchment area for DMC after moving here from Bellenden Rd 10 years ago. DMC has been swamped with mums and babies imo who have priority over we oldies.
  9. I moved last month. Best thing I ever did.
  10. I love the libraries and have always supported them but I have noticed a deterioration in things since the new staffing policy. The jobs have clearly been downgraded and were advertised recently as part-time now they have become more customer service focused. It saddens me to see those books not on the shelves. I guess the next step will be advertising for volunteer shelf stackers.
  11. they are so dangerous for people with sight problems. Are they really necessary?
  12. I was in there yesterday and have also noticed that books don't get shelved like they did. Is it because all the staff are now part-time? I guess it won't be long before the self service machines are installed like the ones in John Harvard library. I love Southwark libraries and will keep supporting the service.
  13. So sorry to hear this and my thoughts are with Pat's loving family and friends. I too have been looking out for him and was hoping for better news.
  14. http://www.thisislocallondon.co.uk/li/traffic.detail.5302641/ Buses were termporarily diverted via Nunhead due to this incident. Road is still closed to traffic but buses are running through now. The 37 and 12 were both affected.
  15. you can also text the 5 digit number if you don't have a smart phone - text number is 87287. You get a message telling you which buses are coming and how many mins waiting time. I find it really accurate and my stress levels have dramatically reduced!
  16. aha! Looks amazing from One Tree Hill and over Nunhead! I guessed it might be for that reason or "something to do with the Olympics"
  17. I just finished your book, Terry and I loved it! I like your style and really enjoyed the pop vignettes of Debbie Harry, Kate Bush et al. I could really relate to that period and you brought back a lot of memories. I am going to pass it on to my brother and his husband as I think they will both enjoy it too. I really liked the stuff about Rock against Racism - I wish I had been a teenager in London during that time! I also liked your reference to Gaby's deli which is under threat at the moment - see facebook for the Save Gabys campaign. I hope your book gets the cinema treatment as it would work really well (a la Billy Eliot). Look forward to the next one.
  18. to kick this off... how about starting or finishing at the French Cafe in Forest Hill Road? And taking in a visit to Melange the wonderful French chocolatier in Bellenden Road...
  19. I travel to Highbury and Islington every day from HOP and use the P12 from Nunhead to get there and back. The overground is fantastic but the frequency of the P12 makes the journey longer than it need be. In the evening, the P12 seems to regularly leave early from HOP so I miss it. In the winter that sometimes meant sitting in the cold and dark and waiting up to 45minutes for the next one. Not fun at 930pm. There is no alternative from HOP and I do not have a car and cannot afford a taxi. A 63 would be a fantastic addition to this route. However I know that during the morning and evening rush hour the road in HOP is gridlock as traffic stacks up at the lights at Brockley Rise. An extended 63 service would add to this gridlock and the service would soon fall down. My vote is for an improved P12 bus frequency and how about a re-routing of the P4 - maybe it could go along Wood Vale and link with the 63/363 service there? Though that would mean the folk at the top of the hill would lose a bus service. I am a committed bus user and passionate about my beloved P12. It's a great route and I use it every day and in both directions. Being able to text from the bus stop and find out when the next one is due has taken away the stress of unknowing and the new buses are more comfortable. Just need some more from Brockley Rise in the evening and I will be happy.
  20. ... also colonies in Nunhead cemetery and often do a fly past in Ivydale Road! Love them!
  21. also the asylum seekers project at the Copleston Centre I would think.
  22. I am staying around there this week and did that walk last night for the first and last time! It felt really threatening with all the cars parked up along there with their engines running. Drug dealers? Not pleasant. Sorry to hear what happened to your son. Mugging is a bit of an issue around these parts at the moment it seems.
  23. cheaper too! Also frequent and "joy of joys" it has wi fi.
  24. and there was I thinking it bordered on Peckham.
  25. there is also the asylum seekers project at the Copleston Centre who always need furniture for clients.
