Hi all, I wondered if anyone could recommend a really good family dentist locally? I've got a huge history of dental problems so I'm after someone v good! Atm the children are seen by a dentist at nursery but that won't last forever so I'd like a practice that's good with children too. I've spent the last three years living in Dulwich but traipsing back to my City dentist every six months at least even though I don't work in London anymore, partly because I've not always had great experiences in the past. Therefore would also welcome any to avoid. TIA!

Where do you take your boy(s) for weekend team sports?
carebear replied to KikiMac's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We're big fans of rugbytots - our 4yo loves it and we're about to start our 2.5 yo. It's not cheap but inside so weather resistant and I think you can get a free trial. -
Recommendation for a sleep trainer please!
carebear replied to AnnieT's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We actually used her twice (same child but two years apart and v different problems). The first time we went for the premium package and it was great. Definitely what we needed and really useful to have the ongoing support throughout the few weeks we were implementing the plan. The second time, we just felt that we wanted to tweak a few things - we already had a child who generally slept well at this point and I felt like I just needed a bit of guidance as he was much older with a few new challenges. In that case we went for the basic package and it was definitely sufficient because we were already familiar with Nicola's methods. On both occasions, she was happy to have the consultation before we committed to the package and with the basic package there was potential to 'upgrade' if we felt we needed it. As you say, it will probably depend on your specific needs but I'm sure nicola would be open to a chat about what's best - and I'm confident she won't just advise the expensive option for the sake of it! -
Recommendation for a sleep trainer please!

Third for Nicola Watson! I've heard good things about Andrea Grace too if Nicola's waiting list is too long. -
Wise woman wanted to help with bottle feeding and other stuff
carebear replied to aandl's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi, I echo the recommendation for Nicola above who helped us beyond just the sleep, with advice on feeding and routine. On the bottle front, we had similar issues with my oldest. Are you warming the milk in the bottle up? (This was unnecessaary for my eldest but my youngest wouldn't touch milk that wasn't warmed up until he was nearly two). Another thing to try if you haven't already is to go out when your partner tries to feed your baby with a bottle - they're clever little things who can sense when the real thing is around, even if you're in a different room! You could also try using a different bottle - Tommee Tippee worked for us but there are many other tests you could try. Good luck! Xx -
Applying for state schools in and around Dulwich
carebear replied to SC2017's topic in The Family Room Discussion
This link should help: https://www.2.southwark.gov.uk/downloads/download/2483/primary_school_admissions In answer to your question, you apply directly to the local authority (details of how in above link) although a few schools also require supplementary forms (e.g. Some of the faith schools). FYI, the deadline for applications is 15th January. Good luck! -
Thank you all so much, that is very helpful and much clearer. I am absolutely planning to put all six choices in - was just unsure about the long shot aspect. Many thanks again!

I'm trying to get my head round primary school applications and wondered if anyone can answer my question... We have two schools in mind. Our first choice is q far away (we're on the edge of where offers were made last year). Our second choice is very nearby and my understanding is that we are very likely to get it. My question is, if we apply in that order and then don't get our first choice, would we be just as likely to get second based on distance or might all of those places have been offered by then, meaning we'd be more likely to be offered third, fourth, fifth etc? If it makes no difference, I feel like we might as well put first choice down. Given that it's unlikely though, don't want to ruin our chances and second choice so I'm trying to work out it better to put that as first as more reliable. TIA and I hope I've made sense!

Recent experience of Kings or St Thomas Maternity Services
carebear replied to EDAus's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I had my first in St Thomas's because I lived in London Bridge and then had no 2 after we'd moved to ED and chose to have him there again even though Kings was my default and closer hospital. There were a variety reasons for that but the main one was that I was anticipating a c-section and they're pretty renowned for that side of things. In all honesty I think you will hear horror stories from both sides and you'll hear good things from both sides and to a certain extent your friend will need to trust her instinct. I do think that St Thomas's might be worth more attention if your friend has any reason to think that she'd be more inclined or likely to have a medical (vs 'natural') birth. Equally, if she lives in the area and has any reason to think she's likely to have a quick labour, that would be an argument for Kings. My whole NCT group had their babies at St Thomas's and I also have several friends who had their babies at Kings. In all cases the birth was fine and in many (including my own on the first occasion) the post natal experience was not positive. My feeling is that that is the case in most hospitals. Please feel free to pm me if you have any questions that I might be able to help with. I'm sure there are pros and cons of both but you can get a lovely view at St T's! -
We are hoping to go on a very very last minute UK holiday on Monday for a week. The three places we had in mind are all booked so I'm hoping for some inspiration! We have to go to a wedding in Bristol on the Saturday so ideally would go somewhere between Bristol and London, more towards the Bristol side (thinking maybe Cotswolds?). I have 2 and 3 year old boys so I'm after something really toddler friendly. In previous years we've stayed at Clydey Cottages in Pembrokeshire and Moonfleet Manor in Dorset so something up that street would be perfect. All ideas v welcome - thanks in advance!

Yoga or Pilates recommendation please!
carebear replied to carebear's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thank you all for the recommendations - will investigate tomorrow :) -
I'm looking for a friendly yoga or Pilates class that isn't too scary on either a Monday or Friday (day preferably) and wondered if anyone had any local recommendations. The only structured exercise I've done in the last few years is pre and post natal so I'd really like to hear any recommendations from others who were maybe not their fittest post children and found a good class. Thank you!

I would highly recommend Nicola from child sleep solutions (who lots of other people on the forum have also recommended) http://www.childsleepsolutions.co.uk Feel free to pm me if you have any questions. Good luck!

I've posted in lost and found as well but have reason to believe this person has a child so thought I'd try here too: Have just found property of Ms K Hind on Landells Rd. Msg me if yours or you know her. Will investigate handing into police once I've got the children to bed!

Just wanted to drop a quick note to say thank you so much to the people who have filled this in - because it's anonymous, I can't thank you individually but I can see that people have followed the link I posted to fill it in, so thank you very much! For anyone else, I'm still keen for more people to complete it if you have the time :)

Hi everyone, As a few of you know, I'm currently studying for my PhD and am currently recruiting people to take a short (<10 mins) online survey for a study I'm conducting about family eating. I would be really grateful to anyone who has the time to complete it. It's completely anonymous and open to anyone who has at least one child between 1 and 16 years living with them some of the time. For more information and to complete the questionnaire, please follow this link: https://www.getfeedback.com/r/vm403IEa Thank you in advance, and please give me a shout if you have any questions!

I highly recommend Michele Misgalla - she was particularly excellent when dealing with some complications I had. http://www.michelemyoga.com

Sorry for posting this in the main family section rather than items wanted but figured this is the right audience! We have just returned from a day at the grandparents with our Motorola baby monitor and the camera but not the charger for the monitor bit. I think we have about 2 or 3 hrs left on the battery so wondered if there is by any chance anyone who has a spare charger (for the monitor/screen, we have the other cable) we could borrow/buy? We can't hear our youngest from our bedroom so I'm not sure how we are going to deal with the night... Pretty sure we could source one tomorrow so it would just be an overnight loan. TIA! Ps husband says it is a Input dc 6 volt mains power supply charger for Motorola mpb20 video monitor to be more clear

I meant to say in my previous message, I had a few other recommendations from reliable people if Nicola isn't available or you'd just like to explore other options. Can dig them out if you'd like them x
-
I would also highly recommend Nicola - we used her with our 6m old. Feel free to PM if you'd like more details x

Removal company - would you get them to pack for you?
carebear replied to LV0210's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Another yes! Another reason for doing it is that a lot of the companies will only insure against breakage if they packed the boxes themselves. -
Can any one recommend the Exhibition Pub on a Sunday
carebear replied to MadameChocolat's topic in The Family Room Discussion
