  1. Yes, come to think of it, when I saw Eddie Izzard at the EDT he was already a bit of a star and there was quite a kerfuffle about him coming to our lowly neighbourhood.
  2. Anyone remember the "Celebrity" pub quiz in the room above The Magdala? We went a few times. Andy Smart was one of the slebs. Aww fond memories of slightly rough and ready ED.
  3. I saw Eddie Izzard at EDT but didn't move here til 96. I'd say 97 or 98.
  4. Another one who is amazed at how old the cars look and would have guessed it was footage from 1988 not 1998! But then, of course, most inhabitants of ED in 1998 would have been modest of income and driving an old car anyway. When we moved here in 1996 we drove a 1988 Astra (F Reg in old money).
  5. How old is your baby and what naps do you want him/her to have? Does your toddler also need a nap? The logistics can be a nightmare when you have more than one, I do know!
  6. Hello, would it be easier to ask for help on sorting nap timings and routines, rather than having to go out for lunch in a quiet cafe with a large loo and a toddler with allergies? That all sounds terribly complicated!
  7. I don't know what I thought that Jeremy, a lazy assumption on my part I guess. I don't remember registering. I just happen to prefer adult company, but it's really not an issue. I'm not going to flounce.
  8. It's funny because things being stolen by gypsies was a "thing" in the 1970s when I was a teen. And the gypsies were always the bad guy. I'm also a bit surprised that many people think a 13 year old being online at 11.30pm is no biggie. I would like the EDF to be for use by adults only. I had no idea that it wasn't!
  9. Is it within The Charter School catchment area?
  10. My patience is wearing thin. Random fireworks at all hours all week and last night a very loud fireworks party going on at the top end of our road, complete with a parent gathering up his reluctant child by shouting from the pavement "KATIE ... TIME TO GO, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" at the front door of the house, rather than going in and persuading reluctant child out. This at 10.20pm and keeping my child, possibly older than Katie, very much awake. My husband got home from work at 1.15 am and heard fireworks going off after that. More fireworks in back gardens tonight. It's really rather tiresome.
  11. We are fine at the moment (although its always patchy) we're on the FH side of East Dulwich too.
  12. What about if Nigello just apologised? That would be nice.
  13. This just makes me nostalgic for the days when Time Out was my most-looked-forward-to publication of the week :(
  14. That's just statistics though isn't it Alice? I thought I was in favour of co-ed education until my daughter went to an all girls secondary. Now I realise that there are great advantages to being in an all female environment for her, and it would be sexist of me to think that there might not be similar advantages for boys in boys schools. For a start they aren't constantly reminded that they don't do as well as the girls!
  15. Any more clues?
  16. My pfb's first birthday involved me, her father, her four grandparents, her uncle, aunt and similarly aged cousin. They came to our house for lunch and cake.
  17. I had wonderful CBT therapy on the NHS through my GP Surgery - The Gardens. Just posting this incase you happen to be a fellow patient there.
  18. Can you post in plain language or do we all have to pick our way through Forum-speak? How did they address you last night Mr Ben? I think quite a lot of locals were sceptical at the time ... the complicated menu and the prices seemed ambitious for the corner of Pellatt Road just down from the launderette.
  19. I'm really surprised to hear those statistics MelonSmasher. I recently went on a tour of Harris Boys, along with a group of other Year 6 parents, and simply did not notice the ethnicity of the students - although I saw plenty of them going about their daily business. Is it really as dramatic a split as you suggest? I'm more inclined to believe son of EdMummy's analysis. I've also been to Kingsdale and FH Boys recently, again the ethnic mix was virtually the last thing on my mind. What split would be acceptable to you, living as we do in South East London?
  20. I really didn't want to upset anyone! The op said she was a writer on a guide book about good schools and she wanted opinions from a certain school's parents about the school to supplement her visit and tour, on which I think she was going to base her review. I just thought that seemed a rather surprisingly small amount of research to go into a guide book about schools - but then I remembered that I have never and would never read such a tome, so perhaps my expectation of the amount of research involved is a little high! But my comment wasn't a personal criticism of the op, it was more about the way the book is produced than anything else.
  21. How anyone can argue with that op, I don't know.
  22. Oh, I do seem to have offended.
  23. I hope you won't be offended by this, but I'm surprised to see from your post how contributions to the Good Schools Guide are made. So you will meet the head and tour the school and ask for opinions from a few current parents ... and is that it? Can any schools be included in The Good Schools Guide or is it only for schools who currently have a Good or Outstanding rating from Ofsted?
  24. Anyway, it's this temporary renting thing that the proposed change to the sibling rule in Wandsworth is trying to address. If you have more than one child you might think twice about stepping over everyone else in your efforts to get in to the best school.
