To the member of my clique (ALAN MEDIC) who is no longer here
newboots replied to aquarius moon's topic in The Lounge
This thread is strangely compelling to a relative newb. -
Shouldn't you be posting this on your Facebook timeline? You might want to change milarchy to malarkey.

Is there anything I can do except go grrrrrr? I'm on a normal unrestricted parking street in ED (ie. a street where you don't expect to park outside or near your house all that often but occasionally would be nice). I spoke to the owner of the van after nearly 3 weeks. He told me it wouldn't start and he was about to go away for at least a week and a half. Something makes me suspect ski-ing in half term. No apology or nothing! Not very neighbourly.

Has anyone on the EDF done this and do you have any tips you care to share? The family and I really fancy a trip to S Germany this year, in the school summer holidays. We want to fly to Munich and spend a day or two there, and then I have a notion that we can find a lovely holiday house, near the lakes, not too busy/touristy but at the same time not totally isolated either. I'd quite like to be able to go as far as Salzburg on a day/2 day trip and see the Sound Of Music country too. Is this possible? Is it a thing people do? I am not sure I have ever met anyone who has been to Germany for their summer holiday. I've never set foot in Germany myself, although I've been to loads of other places in Europe.

Advice (and possibly recommendations) regarding cleaners
newboots replied to Kai_63's topic in The Family Room Discussion
You're asking quite a lot really Kai, if you think about it. Not only do you want a cleaner who will work on a Saturday (or Sunday!) but also one who is happy to travel between Dulwich and Greenwich or vice versa. Most cleaners work locally, for obvious reasons. -
The planes seemed particularly noisy and particularly early this morning! Did you not see that op apologised for duplicating the topic Dog duck? If you think another thread "bleeting (sic) about flight paths" is pointless then why did you click on it? Presumably just so that you could have a go at someone who has inadvertently committed an EDF faux pas? You know that Admin will lounge or lock the thread sooner or later.

Is it wrong to be judgemental of people who like to watch videos of child abuse then? I think that is asking an awful lot of the average person, whether they identify as Christian or not, RPC.

Scruffy Mummy - how can you separate downloading "child porn" as you call it, from child abuse? They are one and the same thing. It is not "child porn" anyway it is images of child abuse. To purchase those videos is to be part of the process. I feel every sympathy for all the people who will have been shocked and saddened by this news because they knew or liked or admired the Rev, but really we should be reserving our sympathy for the children who have suffered so dreadfully.

School League Table results out for Secondaries ...
newboots replied to bawdy-nan's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I think most interested parties are aware of the changes in exams this year (its been all over the news today) and won't be phased by these results. It's all going to get a whole lot more interesting when the current Year 9s take their GCSEs in 2017! But employers and further education providers will be up to speed and adjust their entrance criteria accordingly. -
ITV1 documentary series looking for contributors
newboots replied to charlotte armstrong's topic in The Lounge
Wasn't there a rather good film made about Camberwell Grove not so long ago? I think the film maker was a resident. It was much admired, and discussed on this here Forum. -
Guinea pigs are the business and will steal your heart. They also don't smell!

alternative pain relief to epidural
newboots replied to astrid83's topic in The Family Room Discussion
No, Minder, that was not a TENS machine. You were being monitored. Two entirely different things. I'm not being pedantic, I just think its important for astrid83 to know the difference as you might have inadvertently put her off trying TENS. -
alternative pain relief to epidural
newboots replied to astrid83's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Just to clarify incase Minder's post is unclear: a TENS system has nothing to do with being strapped to a bed and is not a hospital monitoring system in any way. It is entirely portable and you are fully mobile with it. It is not hooked up to a monitor or anything else. All it does is provide pain relief. -
alternative pain relief to epidural
newboots replied to astrid83's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I strongly recommend TENS. You have to get it on fairly early on in labour (and make sure you have practised with it first), at a low setting, and crank up the intensity as you progress. It does feel a bit weird, rather like having intermittent attacks of pins and needles, but honestly the pain relief from TENS alone is really significant. -
Proposed change to Harris Admission Policy
newboots replied to Earl Aelfheah's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Just like Kingsdale. Perhaps people will now start to understand that there is a massive downside to schools becoming Academies and therefore entirely independent of each other, with no overseeing body (such as a Local Authority) making sure that local needs are best catered for. -
Accident on Lordship Lane / East Dulwich Grove
newboots replied to sophie_e_down's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Freda, I am so pleased to hear that you are home now and recovering, but sorry you had such a terrible experience and grim Christmas. I am really appalled that a) the driver of the car didn't stop and b) the police haven't come up with anything, despite there being witnesses and a partial registration number. You must feel so let down and disappointed! Sending my good wishes for a full recovery and hopefully some sort of satisfactory outcome from the police investigation. -
Disapperence and death of Vicar of St John's East Dulwich
newboots replied to Dilcam's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Why don't those of you who wish to discuss this pm each other with email addresses and carry on the conversation privately? I would like the thread to go - this seems a wholly inappropriate place to speculate about whatever it is you are speculating about. -

"Can I just point out that the vast majority of people who walk behind other people are not incipient attackers and rapists, they are you and me." Well, yes, if you feel it necessary to point out the obvious. -
binmen actually putting bins back to where they were
newboots replied to Richy86's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Apropos of nothing in particular, the streets of Furzedown are so very much more aesthetically pleasing than ours, due to lack of thousands of wheelie bins. -
Mrs TP - I'd be grateful if you could also pm me about your daughter's school. It sounds similar but not quite exactly the same as my Y9 daughter's current situation. There is a long and very informative thread on Mumsnet about all this. I will pm you a link.
