  1. Also spotted this morning around 9am at Red Post Hill/ Dulwich Village/ EDG/ Village Way junction!
  2. Dulwich ballet school - we moved to them from SLDS (due to their unbearable arrogant attitude) when my daughter was 6 and they've been great. Much more relaxed but still a high standard ad the teachers are lovely. They offer ballet, tap and modern
  3. Morleys dept store also take old bras and send them to Africa - I think it's this charity intiative http://www.againstbreastcancer.org.uk/get-involved/fundraising/recycling/513/bra-recycling/
  4. I think you can get brown paper garden waste bags from the library - leave them out with the brown bins and they will be taken with the brown waste collection
  5. Fair enough. I don't agree about the atmosphere of privilege comment though - there are plenty of us with children there with modest lifestyles- e.g. single parent families, lower incomes. I grew up in Dulwich before it became so very expensive and also went to Dulwich Hamlet and I'm delighted that my children can go there too. Also I have yet to experience any homework projects where my involvement is expected. The school's expectations re. homework seem very reasonable and my daughter is able to get on with it by herself.
  6. My daughter is there and loves it. I have been impressed by the way the school encourages independence in the children and they offer a lot of additional activities - e.g. lots of sports, free clubs and lunchtime etc. I disagree with most of bornagain's comments - particularly "if you regret that you don't have money to send to private school". What nonsense.
  7. Thanks BrandNewGuy for sharing this - I too oppose the proposed no right turn into EDG from Townley and I have completed the online consultation
  8. Or just install a retractable stair gate - lascal one is very good
  9. If you have I carpeted floors make site she is washing them - that should make things smell fresher. Otherwise I agree a reed diffuser is the way forward - Sainsburys do some decent ones in the homewares section
  10. This should help http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/parenting/a1385922-Start-rite-shoe-sizes-vs-Clarks Clarks come up about a half size smaller - so if your daughter is 10 in Clarks, she'll need 9.5 in a standard sized make e.g. Start Rite.
  11. The post office on Crossthwaite Avenue (off Sunray Avenue) is excellent. The guy that runs it is very friendly and helpful and there is rarely a queue. It is closed Wednesday afternoons and at lunchtime.
  12. Amy, who works from her home in Dulwich Village, is really great http://www.thedulwichtouch.co.uk/
  13. I'm surprised you haven't found anything for your boys at the Oxfam bookshop - they have a great selection - lots of Harry Potter, Lemony Snicket, Michael Morpurgo etc etc Dohchos Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Thanks everyone, I think I have been on a general > "wow, how much!" Charity shops are brilliant, but > not so much for books for boys, my eldest is 9. > > I love the idea of a book swap.
  14. You can find lots of bargains at the Oxfam bookshop in Herne Hill. They have a good selection of children's fiction. Most children's books there cost between ?1.99 and ?2.99.
  15. Could a read of Goodbye Mog be a good place to start? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Goodbye-Mog-Judith-Kerr/dp/0007149697
  16. The forum on the Sali Hughes website is a great source of information and advice. http://forum.salihughesbeauty.com/ You have to sign up as a member to be able to access it, but well worth it! La Roche Posay do a very nice lightweight hydrating moisturiser called Hydraphase Light which is what I use in the summer when my skin can get a bit shiny. You will get better advice though if you post on the forum
  17. Would you be willing to pick up a gosig golden soft toy for me? I can pay cash in advance and would be eternally grateful. It's a soft toy dog and costs ?7
  18. Wow I am shocked that they sent you away. My ex broke his arm just below the shoulder and dislocated his shoulder in a bike accident - he had to have surgery to have the break pinned and then physio to regain movement afterwards. He had the pins in for 60 days. Did they do an x-ray?
  19. My children both used the same Puky bike between the ages of 3 and 5 (child 1) and 2 and 4 (child 2) before moving onto an Islabike. It was brilliant and I would highly recommend. They both started riding the islabike straight away with no stabilisers as they already had great balance and control from riding the balance bike. They had the Puky with proper tyres and a stand but no brake. It is for sale in the classified section in case you are interested!
  20. I've used zipvan but not zipcar and my experiences have always been positive.
