  1. Dear Heidi your son is absolutely beautiful - congratulations. The birth sounds terrible, but believe me before long the memory of the pain will recede and your stitches will heal. Good luck x
  2. I'm pretty sure you can get the airbags removed or deactivated on the passenger side - my friend in italy did this so that she could have her son's car seat in the front next to her. Worth checking with the car manufacturer or a good garage.
  3. just to say, my daughter (2) has some clarks flashing trainers and they have been the most successful shoes i have bought for her so far! apart from the fact that she thinks they are the coolest thing ever, she seems to be much more confident running in them than her other shoes, so worth considering
  4. That's a shame you had a bad experience as I've always been very happy with the fitting service there. I got my daughter's doodles brand new for ?10 on ebay - if you are sure of the size you could try there, also worth checking Biff in dulwich village - they may still have something in the sale.
  5. Been there, so I sympathise. Ibruprofen with codeine is what you need. Are they taking all 4 out at once? I hope not!
  6. Just looked up Pestival online out of curiosity and it is not this weekend, but next weekend 4-6 September so that solves one dilemma for you. I think I'd go for the garden party - sounds like fun.
  7. Just a bit fed up of always having second-hand sofas that are never quite right. I appreciate the suggestion though bigbadwolf Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Oh I see, the Gumtree not good enough for you is > it? > > Actually...don't answer that.
  8. Thanks for all your suggestions so far - I will check out M&S, Dwell and House of Fraser

    sofas

Hello, just wondering where the good folk of east dulwich get their sofas these days. I'm fed up of our tatty freecycle sofa but don't really know where to start looking - Ikea is out of the question as their sofas are too uncomfortable, any suggestions? Are DFS too awful for words, or worth considering? Any advice would be much appreciated!
  11. I also use mine with a normal ironing board. It's great!
  12. Agreed! I think leggings can look good under a dress, and they're handy for the great british summers when it's still bloody cold but doesn't feel right to wear tights
  13. Until the new shop is open, you can find all the leggings your heart could desire here
  14. Dear Nick good luck and I look forward to visiting your shop - it sounds interesting and reasonable sounds good.
  15. on a positive note, apparently slugs love to eat mould, so at least your kitchen will be mould and mildew free :) I have a green cleaning book that suggests keeping a couple of slugs in the shower to keep it free of mould - I kid you not!!
  16. Agree that Sardinia would be fab - great beaches and will still be warm then, but not too hot for a little one. Italians are so great and welcoming with small children too.
  17. that sounds uncannily like me! 18. I was just musing this morning about how much I would like to work part-time so I could spend more time with my 2 year old daughter who thankfully is mostly looked after by her grandparents. I currently work full time, admittedly pretty good hours, 9-5 and only a 20 minute walk to work. However, unless I had a very rich partner (I don't, he earns less than me), there is no way that I could afford it. Then I think back to my parents' sitatuion when I was a toddler - they had two young children, my dad was studying part-time so my mum was the main bread-winner (teaching at a poly, so not fantastically well paid), and they were still able to buy a four bedroom house in woodwarde road! Can you imagine that happening now? I think the majority of working mums don't have the luxury of aiming for balance - the cost of living and especially property prices and rent force them to work when they might not otherwise.
  19. My daughter loves this ELC cherry lane cottage - a kind of first doll's house with furniture, little figures and animals also a big box of duplo for building towers big sheets of paper and some felt-tip pens or crayons and just let her loose (use the kind that wash out of clothes, Crayola do loads)
  20. Camberwell pool is not that bad - I'd say no worse than east dulwich. I go at lunchtimes and it's usually fairly quiet. Having said that, they are planning to close the pool for refurbishment in the autumn
  21. just to reiterate what sb just said - I think many women also need time to recover from a natural birth. The first night after my daughter's birth (i gave birth at 9pm) I couldn't even manage to change my nightdress (was alone in italian hospital, partner not allowed in outside of visiting hours) and another woman's mother had to do it for me. The next morning I almost fainted when I got up to go to the bathroom for a freshen up and found it very difficult walking the few steps to get there. I was very thankful to have the three days in hospital with my baby that are imposed in italy!
  22. you can't beat google for finding what you want! also, just a thought fidgetsdad, you might also want to post this thread in the Family and Wanted Sections in case somebody who only visits there has picked up Charlie
  23. Hi, this looks like Charlie hope that works as a replacement if you don't find him. You could always say he has been to the swimming pool (or something similar) and that's why he's come back so clean!
  24. My daugther switched straight from breast milk to cow's milk aged 15 months without any problems. I just gave her as much as she would drink - starting from small bottles (as I'd never bottle bed before and wasn't sure how much milk she'd actually been taking from a feed) and moving rapidly to bigger ones. I didn't consult a health visitor at the time as we had recently moved back here from Italy where she was born and so she wasn't followed by one here - probably a good thing from the sounds of it, as from what I hear they seem to just create more stress and insecurities for mums! I really wouldn't worry about it too much.
  25. duh, of course I get why rimworld is funny, but I'm not about to give an explicit explanation to prove it. I found african prices funny for other reasons - seems pretty outrageous as a name for a shop, no?
