  1. I too can't make 8 Jan as I am going to a party for a friend who is leaving the country. Any saturday evening in Feb would be good for me - it would be lovely to meet up with you all again
  2. Excellent result Pickle, have a very Merry Christmas!
  3. Thanks for the tip Mick Mac but my dad is 70 and very old school - just a soap and water man, nothing else. But actually that stuff looks like the business, so I think I'll get some for my boyfriend!
  4. I want to get my dad some new shaving soap, the kind that comes in a wooden dish with a lid, and just wondered if anyone knew if there was a shop that sold this locally. I tried John Lewis but they only had some very expensive and overly smelly Floris stuff that he wouldn't have liked. Can anyone help?
  5. I've always favoured pampers over huggies for nighttime - I found that with huggies they would burst and leave little crystals on my daughter's bottom whereas pampers seem to be able to absorb huge amounts of wee
  6. There is a thread from a while back about how to get back these clamping charges. I don't have time to do a search now, but hopefully some kind soul will
  7. I've always found the best denim jackets in charity shops - generally nicely worn in for you. Not sure what an 11 year old would make of that though!
  8. I agree with Heidi. Personally I would have been delighted to have received such a present from my partner - I got a hand-written poem, which was lovely and thoughtful, but I think something like jewellery which is a permanent reminder of such a happy occasion would be ideal.
  9. It was lovely to meet you all last night. I felt surprisingly good this morning - perhaps because by some miracle my daughter slept until 8.30! Looking forward to "operation descend"! Mx
  10. 1. Goodfellas when Ray Liotta starts being followed by the helicopter, and is trying to simultaneously cook ragu for his family, drop guns off and cut drugs. 2. Any scene selected at random from Withnail & I 3. Make em laugh from Singing in the Rain
  11. Dulwich Cambridge Venice Cambridge Dulwich Vauxhall Loughborough Junction Denmark Hill Naples, Italy Dulwich edited because I forgot that I spent a year living in Venice - how could I forget!
  12. a romantic weekend away in venice would be nice failing that, a kitten!
  13. I know. It's an unheard of, never happened before and will probably never happen again situation. I think he's feeling bad because he sleeps in the morning and works afternoons and evenings in the week and wasn't around much last weekend so has hardly seen our daughter for about 10 days!
  14. I rarely get to go to the loo on my own unless I'm at work! I either have my daughter observing and commenting on the whole procedure, or actually on my knee while I do it!!
  15. Hurrah! Glad she enjoyed it. For another time Trafalgar Square/ National Gallery is great for little ones too. Again, lots to look at and plenty space to run around, and easy to get to if you get the train to London bridge and then take another train from platform 6 to charing x.
  16. Yes, I was thinking of getting my hair done, maybe followed by a visit to TK Maxx!
  17. Mr Sanity has just declared that I can go "off duty" from 1pm until 1am tomorrow!! I'm now pondering how I might like to spend the afternoon before joining you all at the pub. What luxury!
  18. oh dear, Santa website was not a success -she asked me to turn it off, tears imminent, before he could get a chance to give his message. Now she is saying she just wants to get a presents from a real man, not father christmas, and not somebody wearing a father christmas costume!!
  19. Right now there is a bird of prey (sorry, not sure what kind, will try and take a photo) sitting outside my office window, scaring off the pigeons and crows. It's brought in occasionally for pest control
  20. Hi Pickle thanks for the tips. She loves Raymond Brigg's book Father Christmas Goes on Holiday, so I don't think it's the figure himself who terrifies her, more the concept of a real moving life-sized one! I will try that website and see how she responds. Mx
  21. I would take her, but my daughter is terrorised by men dressed as santa/ lifesize santa models! Any suggestions on what I can do to alleviate her fear, given that she is bound to see many of them as the season is upon us? I am particularly apprehensive about her nursery school play/ part next week when one of the dads will be dressed as santa and distributing presents - I predict inconsolable tears!
  22. Hi Fi, the details of the night out are on a new thread here
