  1. The 37 only goes down a tiny section of Red Post Hill and has a very different route from the 42. Personally I think the new 42 buses are great - they are hybrid and the engine shuts off at bus stops etc. I live very close to Red Post Hill and I can live with the noise as the convenience of having the bus service trumps that for me. Better than loads of polluting cars on the road!
  2. I took my 9 year old to Streatham Ice rink on Saturday - it was fine, but quite busy - mostly families and young kids, but a few teenagers whizzing about and showing off - just how I remember it from my childhood! A couple of years ago we went to an outdoor rink by the Tower of London - it was raining on the day but we had prebooked so just wore waterproofs and it was fine. It was smaller and quieter than Streatham - I suspect you wouldn't get so many intimidating show offs at the outdoor rinks. Not sure if there is a rink there this year but worth checking.
  3. I've had the mirena coil for just over a year now, to manage very heavy periods. I was previously on the pill (loestrin 30) for this, but it stopped being effective. The mirena has been amazing for me - I haven't had any bleeding at all since I had it fitted. I did have some hair loss and a little weight gain especially around my middle, but the hair loss has slowed down and a year on some of the weight has dropped off a bit. I still notice some moodiness and bloating at certain times of the month, but not having a period at all has been miraculous as they were so debilitating before. I am prepared to put up with the side effects for that result.
  4. Suggest you give them a ring or visit in person to speak to them and find out
  5. I've just seen from their website that you can send coats to them using collectplus, so I will be doing this https://www.collectplus.co.uk/wrapuplondon If anyone wants to add a coat to the parcel you can drop them off with me this evening - PM for details
  6. I have a coat to donate but don't work in town so won't be heading through any of those stations. Could anyone take it for me? I could drop off in Dulwich this evening or tomorrow.
  7. They've been invading my place for years now. I hoover them up with gusto - can't bear them. No guilt involved.
  8. Another vote for H&M
  9. I did, but picked it up outside Sunray Gardens as traffic coming up to Dulwich Village was so bad the bus took ages to get through - I prefer to walk to the next stop rather than waiting while breathing in exhaust fumes! I suspect that lots of people are still not aware of the route extension and so currently the buses are picking up the usual users later on along the route.
  10. Thanks - I found a Card Factory in Camberwell where they have them Sharon N Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The Card Factory in Peckham usually has them.
  11. Does anyone know where I can get a helium number 6 balloon locally?
  12. You could also try Dulwich Village Preschool - just off the south circular - loads of outdoor space. My son went there for a year and was very happy. http://www.dulwichvillagepreschool.co.uk/
  13. Seconding Biff - they have some good start rite styles. They are black leather, but look a bit like trainers in style
  14. This is good to hear, thanks. She is just back from the fracture clinic with a new cast - I had been hoping that she wouldn't need to keep it in the cast after two weeks, but it is still painful to touch and the consultant said more time was needed. When I told him my daughter had been very active in the past week he said she should tone it down a bit (I didn't dare say she even went bodyboarding in the sea when we were in Dorset - with a waterproof cast obviously!). I am going to load up my kindle for her for our holiday in France next week. Gubodge Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > It hopefully won't affect her summer too much. 15. I'd stay at a nearby hotel overnight - loads of hotels available via the usual booking sites - you should be able to find a room for around ?50
  16. Why not download the happn app - then if it happens again you can see if she's on there
  17. Thanks. Metal detector is quite a good idea - we are off to Dorset on Saturday so it could be an option to take along with us. She went to the cinema today and is going to sit on the side and watch her karate class this afternoon (she is that keen!).
  18. My daughter has managed to fracture her elbow. She has her arm in a cast and cannot now do the various activities we had planned for her this week (adventure playground, tennis course, karate, swimming). I am at work and she is with her grandparents. Any suggestions for good activities to keep her occupied that are not reading/watching tv/playing on computer? It's her left arm so she at least can use her right hand. She's usually very physically active so it's going to be tricky. At least we are off to Dorset at the weekend so a change of scene should help.
  19. Yes Myatts Fields was working today
  20. This is really helpful, thanks. Can I ask did you change your child's first name or surname? My children have my ex's surname but I would like to add mine as they identify much more with my side of the family than his. My daughter was born in Italy so wondering if this will complicate things. Also wondering about the implications for passports etc as I only just renewed their passports with their dad's surname. 22. Bit of an odd one this, but does anyone know where I could buy some long short style pants (to prevent thighs chafing) locally?
  23. In answer to tourniquet questions - we went on a Sunday and got one of the earliest times - I think around 10.30. I would aim to get there earlier rather than later if you can. As for what happens - you see parts of the set of the film, with props etc - lots of explanatory stuff, there is a new exhibit of the hogwarts express - real train you can get on and walk through, great section on the special effects and models used in the films and loads more. I didn't book any extras and no you can't get in and look around before the booked time.
  24. Hi, Do you mean the Harry Potter studio tour? I asked about it on here about 18 months ago but can't find the thread now. Anyway I took my kids who were 8 and 4.5 at the time and we all loved it. My daughter is a massive Harry Potter fan so she was very excited and dressed up as Hermione for the day. The half hour slot is just for the time you enter the tour - once in you can spend as long as you want there. We took a packed lunch to avoid spending ???? in the cafe, and we stopped halfway to have lunch. I think we were there for about 3 hours but my memory is hazy. There is no guided tour - you just make your own way around. There are extras you can buy on the day like photos on broomsticks (i caved in and got them for my kids). The shop at the end is pricey. On the advice of my SIL I bought some Harry Potter related souvenirs in advance and gave them to my kids at the end. If you are a fan of the films you will love it. Hope that helps
  25. I've had many wonderful holidays in Dorset - we stay on the coast between Lyme Regis and Bridport - Chideock and Eype both lovely spots. It's about a 4 hour drive from London and as well as the beaches there is the children's farm, swannery and Subtropical gardens at Abbotsbury which are all great to visit.
