  1. Hi, yes I'm still up for this. What kind of time - 11.30ish?
  2. Hi there I went through this twice during the earlier months of my pregnancy. First GP I saw waved me off with nothing, but when I went back after the cough and generally feeling run down persisted the second GP I saw prescribed antibiotics, which helped. I would go back to your GP and insist - preferably see a different doctor if you can. Good luck, and I hope you feel better soon.
  3. There was a really helpful thread about this a little while ago - see here
  4. re. Gwod's theory - I'm right handed and my daughter always preferred right boob - I think because it was always more leaky so I guess quicker let down, also slightly smaller boob and nipple so was easier for her to latch on!!
  5. I just got some normal bikinis from the figleaves sale in the next size up from my usual and they are working fine still at 7.5 months pregnant. Personally I wouldn't bother with a maternity costume (but then I am tall and find it impossible to find costumes that are long enough in the body anyway!). Or if you're interested I have a jojomamanbebe size M maternity tankini that I've only used once (got it in the sale for ?10) that I'd be happy to trade for a pack or two of newborn nappies!
  6. Ikea antelop if you're on a budget, tripp trapp if you can afford it. Both simple and easy to clean
  7. We used one for our daughter when she was tiny and it was a lifesaver - allowed us to eat etc and kept her happy or got her off to sleep. She didn't like it so much once she was a few months old though. Unfortunately I don't have it any more as a friend lent it to us while we were living in Italy, otherwise I would offer to lend it to you!
  8. Hi, I can sympathise. I had pelvic floor problems after my daughter's birth, and also at the beginning of this pregnancy (leaking when I had a bad cough, etc), although it has now passed thankfully. I also have always found it difficult to do pelvic floor exercises. I was lucky enough to be referred to the brilliant physio at Kings who really helped explain how to do the exercises properly. She advised me at the beginning when my muscles were weaker and needed training to do just to about 20 quick squeezes in succession a few times a day for a week or so, before trying to progress to longer squeezes (3-5 seconds). I have also found that for me, I can only do the exercises when I am really concentrating and not distracted, and I find it near impossible to do them while sitting. The best time for me is lying in bed before going to sleep, but also waiting for the bus is quite a good time to try the quick squeezes. If there is any way you can get a referral to the Kings physio I would really recommend it - I think she sees people privately but I'm afraid I can't remember her name and don't have her contact details - perhaps somebody else on here does? Edited to add: another useful thing the physio said to me was that the sensation of letting go in a controlled way after the squeeze is just as important as the squeeze itself - hope that makes sense! If you do manage to get to see a physio then they do this really useful thing called "biofeedback" (I think that's the correct term) where they put a sensor inside you while you are doing the exercises so that you can then see on a computer screen whether you are squeezing the muscles hard enough. Hard to explain here but do PM if you want to chat about it more.
  9. Hi Liz Your classes sound great and I hope to join the Dulwich Park one after my second baby is born in september. Can you tell us how much they cost?
  10. thanks for reminding me about Maggie O'Farrell. I look forward to reading her latest - sounds good
  11. Katie - re. salami slicing - did they work in academic publishing by any chance? salami publication katie1997 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > people I have worked with who used the following > words for real: > > ducks in a row (two different people, same > meeting) > > salami slicing* (i was numb by this point so > cannot remember the context) > > hahahahaha > > > * don't work in a deli/nor remotely connected to > the food industry
  12. Sorry keep thinking of more - Ingenious Pain by Andrew Miller - again historical fiction and a real page turner. But he wrote it a while ago so you may well have read it...
  13. Also Star of the Sea by Joseph O'Connor - about a ship taking irish emigrants to the US during the potato famine - totally gripping and great if you love historical fiction
  14. You may have already read it but my all time favourite read is the Count of Montecristo by Dumas - action and suspense all the way!
  15. When my Italian OH is really really pissed off it's always the Madonna that really gets it - much more than just porca madonna...
  16. Sorry, you're right - Saturday 7th August for the with kids meet-up on Peckham Rye. Hope others can do this date!
  17. oh yes rum and black southern comfort and lemonade
  18. Neapolitan dialect va fa mocc a chi te mmuort (think the spelling may be variable) loosely translated as go do it in the mouth of your dead relative. To be saved for really extreme circumstances. Can be shortened to va fa mocc which is used with more abandon.
  19. Peckham Rye sounds good - sorry I didn't suggest it first time around as I don't know the park as I live on the other side of Dulwich. I'm afraid I can't do 31 July and I'd really like to be there - how about Saturday 8 August? But if we can't find another date that works then I'll just have to wait until the next one. And I think other halves should be welcome too, although knowing mine, he won't come!
  20. I had one done around my due date - definitely got things going and I'm glad I had it
  21. It was lovely to meet everyone today. Shall we aim for another meet-up in a month's time, say Sunday 8th August 10.30 caffe nero? It seemed like a good venue. Also, I was thinking it would be nice to arrange another meet-up with kids (for those who fancy that) in Dulwich park one saturday morning/lunch for picnic. How does Saturday 24 July sound for that? Was thinking around 11am on the grass by the playground.
  22. Hi Kerry take a look at the Autumn babies thread here We are meeting up on Sunday (11 July) at 10.30am, in Caffe Nero on Lordship Lane. Hope you can make it too.
  23. I always liked this cover of Summer in the City Eat
  24. Hi, Yes they do. You don't really need a cot thing, but you could always get a second hand phil and teds cocoon and use that in the buggy in the lying flat position - that's what I'm planning to do with no. 2 at the very beginning. Or you can put a fleece in to make it more cosy. felt-tip Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Does the Maclaren Techno XLR lay flat for a > newborn? > > I saw a cot thing on mothercare.com but not sure > how it all works. > > We've been looking at the bugaboos and stuff but > my mate has the chameleon and says that now his > boy is 10 months they just use the maclaren all > the time as its so much lighter and easier to pack > away for car journeys and stuff. > > If that is the case and the XLR is suitable from > birth then I could just save myself about ?800...!
