I've deleted my original post here as unfortunately I haven't gone on to have a great experience with the vet I was originally positive about on my initial visit, alas.

Believe this is a branch of (or from the same people as) Black Salt in West London, which got a great review from Jay Rayner in the Observer last year: https://www.theguardian.com/food/2022/jun/05/back-salt-london-a-thrilling-take-on-familiar-dishes The builders working there said it is going to be a bar and restaurant serving Indian food.

With the sad news that our longest-serving team member and local comedy legend Lewis is leaving the nest after more than seven years, we're looking for a new superstar to join us at Hop Burns & Black's East Dulwich Road store on a part-time basis. The role comprises 12-15 hours a week. Saturday and Sunday availability is essential, with the occasional weekday shift too, if desired. Barista experience in specialty coffee is required - while we'll provide training in how we do things at HB&B, you should be familiar with professional coffee machines (ours is a 2 Group La Marzocco Linea Classic) and ready to hit the ground running, confident of making great coffee every time in an often high-paced environment. Great customer service skills are also essential and we hope you'll have an interest in the products we sell, especially craft beer and wine. (We'll also teach you to love hot sauce if you don't already.) Our ideal candidate will be local to our SE London outlets. You'll need to work well as part of a team and be capable of opening the store in the mornings and working sole charge on occasion, so reliability is key. A friendly personality and great sense of humour is a given! The start date is ~23 September, although ideally you will have availability prior to this date for a (paid) training and induction session. We are a London Living Wage employer - our base rate for this position is £11.05, with a higher rate for sole charge supervisory shifts. We offer a generous staff discount and loads of opportunities to gain more knowledge in craft beer, natural wine and hot sauce through formal and informal tastings, festivals and other activities. You'll be joining a small, experienced, friendly team and a lot of fun is guaranteed. If you fit the above criteria, we'd love to hear from you. Please email us - joinus(at)hopburnsblack.co.uk - with your CV and a cover letter by Sunday 11th September.

Literally no one asked for this change. Likewise, literally no one has been asked about this change. Unbelievable.

Bag and Purse stolen Today 10.30am Goose Green
jenf replied to conormills's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
We've also noticed a increase in suspicious behaviour in the past few days, with one attempted theft from our shop (a woman carrying bags of flowers with an accomplice waiting outside) and a number of sifty characters hanging about or walking past, appearing to case the various shops on East Dulwich Road. Please be aware and alert. -
A list of useful local links and resources

Hi there - our shops are not open for visiting but we're still delivering the good stuff (beer, wine, cider, hot sauce etc) at Hop Burns & Black, with free local delivery for orders over ?40 plus courier shipping across the UK, as well as Deliveroo from 4-6pm each weekday - shop.hopburnsblack.co.uk :) -

Unfortunately a grey and white cat was hit by a car yesterday afternoon outside our shop on East Dulwich Road. The driver didn't stop but my partner and another passerby were quickly on the scene. Sadly the cat passed away. I know The Neighbourhood Vet were trying to reach the owner but I also wanted to reach out on here in case they're reading, just to let them know that their furry friend was cared for at the end and that it was very quick, in case that is of some comfort. We're very sorry for your loss.

A big fat glowing recommendation for Greg and his team who this week did some painting work for us at our shop HB&B on East Dulwich Road. His guys did a fantastic job, the finish was impeccable and they were tidy, polite and coped extremely well working around the demands of a busy shop! A++++, would trade again.

Too many cars for sale on East Dulwich Road
jenf replied to jenf's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Pretty sure they were too but at some point the restrictions on the signs have been redacted - we'll be submitting a request to the council to reinstate them. The good news is that all of the offending cars received warning stickers threatening towing yesterday and have all been removed this morning. Apparently the majority belonged to the same person so assume they'll be receiving a fine. -
Too many cars for sale on East Dulwich Road
jenf replied to jenf's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Thanks everyone - some great advice here, will let you know how we get on. -
In recent weeks the strip of parking opposite the East Dulwich Road shops (our shop Hop Burns & Black, Balfe's etc) has been taken over by a load of cars for sale, most of which have been there for weeks if not months - at the current count, there are at least 5 of these cars plus an abandoned van. It's incredibly annoying for us as a local business as our customers can't find anywhere to park - the last thing anyone needs in these Brexity days of declining high streets! I've spoken to Southwark Council's parking enforcement team who say they can't do anything as the area is a free parking zone (although I'm sure it didn't used to be) and that they can only ticket cars that are infringing parking regulations. Reading up online, it appears that selling cars on a public road can be classified as street trading and thus anyone doing so without a licence can be fined under the London Local Authorities Act 1990, section 38, but the parking team say they've never heard of this. I had a nasty encounter with a pair of thugs who were checking in on the cars today, which I've reported to the police, but is there anything else that can be done re this issue? It would be great to hear from a local councillor.

Missing cat - Leo - RETURNED ALIVE & WELL!!!

Edit: damn fool just turned up again. I knew this would happen. This is the third time in five years I've had to post about our missing cat - apologies, he'll probably be found by the time you read this (touch wood)... Our lovely fluffy grey cat has gone missing from the Fenwick/Kinsale Road area - please see pic. He is a curious beast and has been known to get himself trapped inside houses and sheds. You'll recognise him by his unusual toes. Any leads appreciated - please DM.
-
Amazing - thank you. Turns out it IS a Fiveways vehicle, however the company says they hire out loads of lorries to local providers (either Southwark council or private waste services) so can't tell me who without a registration number. I will now pass all of this on to the police and Veolia - and encourage Fiveways to be a little more cooperative...
-
Thanks all - we have reported to the police and a forum poster kindly DMed a name of a company that does commercial collections along ED Road that they thought might be the culprits, Fiveways, but this doesn't come up in any Google searches. Have been speaking with Veolia today but they're not the easiest company to deal with, apart from advising me that a) it wasn't their lorry and b) a replacement bin will cost ?150. Nice work if you can get it, I guess.
-
(For the benefit of those without zoom function, and also in acknowledgement of what a rubbish photo it is - excuse the pun - the pic seems to show a white van with a green and/or reddish star and text.)
-
Strange goings on in East Dulwich Road this morning - our new, clearly marked commercial Veolia recycling bin was missing in action this morning (we run Hop Burns & Black) and on checking CCTV, it seems that a non-Veolia lorry not only emptied the contents but the two binmen then threw THE ENTIRE BIN in the back of the van. Pic attached (apols for poor quality) - we don't recognise the logo so wondered if anyone else might so I can contact them, give them a mouthful and get them to bring it back or reimburse the hefty fee Veolia will inevitably charge us to replace it.

Missing small fluffy white dog from Gowlett Road se15

I presume it's new owners, it's certainly a different team behind the counter. They seemed to spend quite a bit of time on the refurb, although I can't say exactly how much has changed because I didn't go to the old one much apart from to tell the owner to get his stinky fish scraps bin collected more often... The back section is still closed off for renovations but will be opening soon, apparently.

Just had some of our new neighbour Rose's fish and chips (or fush & chups, since we're Kiwi). Very tasty they were too, and a nice friendly bunch behind the counter.
